President Obama this evening singled out U.S. Rep. Steve Cohen, D-Tenn., for praise for his vote on the war supplemental spending bill Tuesday after Cohen was savaged all day in the progressive and anti-war blogosphere.
"Congressman Cohen is a leader in the United States Congress and a strong voice for the people of Tennessee," Obama said in a statement. "His vote to ensure our men and women in uniform have the resources they need to protect our country while supporting ongoing diplomatic efforts around the world will enable us to provide necessary funding for our troops and prepare our country if H1N1 poses a severe threat."
As Steve Steffens at LeftWingCracker said, "Well, he’s not perfect, and this vote proves it."
On what I’m sure is a completely unrelated note, Memphis Mayor Dr. Willie Herenton filed papers on June 11 to run against Cohen in a Democratic primary.
And Lynn Woolsey was probably just exaggerating.
Unless Mayor Herenton has plans to run against Barack Obama for the seat, I imagine he’ll decide that his spare time is better devoted to something like lawn bowling in the near future.
Looks like "leadership" got the "fair hearing" they were looking for.
