A few progressive members not showing up to vote "no" could help Rahm’s whip count, so it’s possible they could delay and Leadership will bring it up when there are more absences.
Keep calling…tell members of Congress that you need them to show up and vote their conscience, the war is not something you take a dive on.
Call:
Gwen Moore: 202-225-4572
Donald Payne: 202-225-3436
Jerrold Nadler: 202-225-5635
UPDATE: Dolores reports from the Whip Tool: "Rep. Schakowsky broke her foot (in two places) and they haven’t had a chance to talk so phone-answerer could not tell me what her updated position is, if any, on H.R. 2346."
UPDATE II: Carolyn J reports in Whip Tool that Markey now a yes: "Will SUPPORT the bill. Rep. Markey weasels AGAIN!" Markey voted "no" the first time, and also signed 2007 pledge never to vote for war funding that did not include troop withdrawal timelines. Office: (202) 225-2836
UPDATE III: Gregg, a resident of Nadler’s district, called the Representative’s office; aid could not say at this time how Nadler would vote. Nadler should be sensitive to all the arguments against this supplemental–the use of a supplemental, the lack of a time line, the inclusion of the IMF money, the watered down "clunkers" provision–keep the calls coming. About FDL Action
To the phones, pups!
I’m sure the Admin is positioning this as ‘voting no’ means an Obama defeat and “we can’t afford such if we are to pass healthcare.”
Congressman Welch’s office still won’t say how he’ll vote.
Why would any Repubs vote for this? They have to answer to the folks back home, too, and their main goal in life is to see that Obama doesn’t succeed at anything. Makes no sense to me.
“Rep. Schakowsky broke her foot (in two places) and they haven’t had a chance to talk so phone-answerer could not tell me what her updated position is, if any, on H.R. 2346.”
huh – that’s kind of extreme. couldn’t she just have voted “Present”?
and are we expecting any kind of “Present Flu”?
did i miss the roll call vote for the rule (not the actual bill)?
i wasn’t listening to cspan for awhile, but it now sounds like debate on hr 2346 has begun.
Re H.R. 2346
I called Moore, Payne, Nadler and Markey; all of the aides sounded grumpy.
I told them that I’m not a constituent, but I do contribute money to MoveOn and other organizations that support progressive Dems.
Crickets at the other end….
appreciated hearing Jane Hamsher on C-Span’s Washington Journal today. Boy, have we got work to do. lets get to it. -RF.
