I’m betting we’ve got 37 instead of 36. Jim Cooper? I’ll personally spend the next year and a half writing about how he voted for $108 billion in European bank bailouts and $4 billion in "Cash for Clunkers" when he won’t get a dime for local Nashville hospitals in African American communities in his district.
After the Grijalva vote switch trial balloon this morning (which was quickly shot down), it looks like several people may have been let off the reservation. Which indicates that the rumors we’re hearing about Rahm Emanuel cutting deals with Republicans to go easy on them in the 2010 elections in exchange for votes may be true.
Which, if true, means we held progressive votes. And we won.
But we’re not there yet. Keep calling….
This is amazing.
Thank you Jane. Please just let me know if I ever piss you off.
Given his performance to date as Mr. Obama’s chief of staff, Mr. Emanuel was wise to eschew electoral politics. He should ignore the signs of self-deception urging him to re-enter them, and keep to his chosen, non-electoral office path. Elephants aren’t the only political animals with long memories.
Jane, meet Rahm. Rahm, watch your ass!
Rahm may have a few choice words for Jane.
Heh.
Can you believe what people sitting in their basements, eating Cheetos and wearing pjs can do ?! Smells close to victory to me.
I understand that one looking intently through the forest in Illinois can now see progressive saplings. Perhaps it won’t be too long before they will actually appear as trees…just saying…
Thanks for all your hard work on this, Jane. Personally, I think we need Cash for Clunkers, but not this watered down version and not as part of the supplemental. If (looking more and more like when) this fails, will C for C come up again as a standalone bill?
Rahm and Obama would do well to read Molly Ivins. “You have to dance with the one who brung you”. The first balck President of the United States was not elected by right wing Republicans. He was elected by progressives. He can be unelected in 3 years and 5 months too.
2nd call to Matsui’s office – still “undecided”, but lots of hemming and hawing from staffer this call -
this is where I grew up (actually worked on her late husband’s first campaign) for the 1st time in her district’s history, unemployment exceeds national average – reminded staffer would be very easy for a Lundgren type to show up in 2010 and blather on about her bailing out European Banks
Seeing the progress today, I couldn’t help but imagine Team Rahm going straight to members of the opposition party to line up votes to pass the supplementary.
Donald Payne’s staffer is unsure of his position and will get back. Friendly, sympathetic and glad to hear from me on the interrelated issues in play here. I’m optimistic.
John Hall (D-NY) staffer wasn’t sure of his position – but I’ve never been able to get them to tell me his position on anything over the phone.
John is a member of the Progressive Caucus, ran on a platform of no votes to fund Iraq (although he has strayed from time to time) so I don’t know why he isn’t on the call list
He is subject to persuasion because of his past promises – I am mystified that he isn’t on the call list. This is the 3rd time I’ve asked about this, but it probably is too late by now – we have done what we can!
Congrats, Jane. Thanks for inspiration and guidance!
Can our friend Darcy Burner help us at
American Progressive Caucus Policy Foundation?
Jane you are great.
Now pick out one of the not going to change for anything representatives, find some politically active grandmother in the region where the rep sleeps, encourage her to get friends to rent a power music sound system, a flat bed truck and to wake that person up every morning screaming at ear splitting volume, “When are you going to work for us you thieving lying asshole.” It will get an arrest but it will go viral on youtube five minutes after it is posted, a little tag naming names at the end that need a jab of the same would cause a movement that might help.
These people are not my friends.
libbyliberal at 14, I’m 100 per cent disabled, but Darcy Burner and Marcy Wheeler get a check from me every month. May be low this month because I stripped my funds to fund a blogger that I like to go to Latin America and have a professional check and see if it is cancer. No one dies if I have money and they need it.
Keep going, people, you are on the right track, but stop with the nicey nice. Make their lives sheer screaming hell. They have no compunction about doing it to us.
