Jane reports that Ann Kirkpatrick may have been frightened into standing up to Emanuel and voting "no" tomorrow. Blue Dogs who don’t will suffer at the polls next year. And Emanuel knows he’s starting to lose them. So what’s his latest strategy?
We hear he’s turning to vulnerable Republicans and telling them he can get the DCCC to "go easy" on them next year if they vote for the Supplemental tomorrow. And Eric Cantor’s office is really pissed.
It’s one thing if he makes a deal with Vern Buchanan in Florida or Chris Smith in New Jersey, but we’re hearing that he’s offering to protect Republicans who have been slated as major DCCC targets, like Thaddeus McCotter (R-MI), Bill Young (R-FL), Leonard Lance R-NJ) and Charlie Dent (R-PA).
Watch tomorrow to see if any of these characters cross over and vote with Team Emanuel to bail out European bankers.

shades of Sorkin’s The American President - where POTUS/COS put Emissions Bill “in drawer” to get needed lizard brain votes on stinker of a crime bill
Rahm Emmanuel, America’s poster boy for political corruption.
Hey Chris Van Hollen! Are you going to stand for this and stand up to Rahm? Who runs the House of Representatives and the DCCC? Nancy Pelosi and you or Rahm Emanuel?
Whats the difference between Leonard Lance and Chris Smith if they are both in New Jersey. Should they either both be targets or both not?
That seems like a huge price for a ‘mere’ supplemental bill. The question that must be asked is “what’s in it for them?”
Any polls backing this up I mean I know we will make them suffer but are we enough? Could this effect their fund raising? Lots of Pups here only give to Blue America is that having an effect?
The Corporate wing of the GOP wants this why didn’t Rahm try and pass this with a Blue Dog/GOP alliance in the first place?
Is he trying to taint our Lefties and make us disillusion with the system?
Is he trying to lower our voting in the next election to preserve the Blue Dog/GOP alliance?
This maybe the most clever thing Rahm has done…which is not saying much.
Lots of Pups here only give to Blue America is that having an effect?
I had the same thought. I know it’s the only place I give. The state and national party still call me though, so I really wonder if enough people have given elsewhere to make a difference.
Can someone out there just get the idea we are very, very sick of the war, death, and killing, and even the ridiculous $$ going to thieves and contractors and the MIC. And that’s the truth….
Stupid corruption I read back when Mike Royko would write about Mayor Daley corrupt yes but Stupid, No. Obvious like Rahm is with his WH leaks no!
I feel insulted when obvious small timers try running an amateur con on me.
Rahm’s from the Chicago area he should know how to run a hustle.
Rahm really is an autocratic ass, isn’t he? He thinks he can pick and chose who runs as a candidate. I know others suffer from this same anti-democratic thought malfunction (hello, Senator Durbin) but Rahm’s going even further than normal by promising favors to the other party. Jeebus.
Agreed This is a very interesting question.
It appears that Rahm has not heard about Joe Sestak not buying the control by the elite crap.
Rahm is taking the heat here.
Which surely is Obama’s game plan. Isn’t he charming?
Jane used a snip from a much longer post that goes up at DWT at 3pm (PT). I want to share another piece with everyone. This comes right from Charles Pierce’s book, Idiot America and was written by a Republican congressman from Minnesota:
“If there be in our midst one low, sordid, vulgar soul… one tongue leprous with slander; one mouth which is like unto a den of foul beasts giving forth deadly odors; if there be one character which, while blotched and spotted all over, yet raves and rants and blackguards like a prostitute; if there be one bold, bad, empty, bellowing demagogue, it is the gentleman from Illinois.”
Autocrat can we say Elite whether its Bush or Rahm the Autocrat expects to get their way. They do not expect to be questioned. They don’t think they need to persuade people with logic. They see power relationships only and use them.
Also their attempts at being devious are obvious.
Funny only Dems get called Autocrats/Elites though.
Pissing off Eric Cantor and his office seems like a desireable side effect.
It’s as if he were still chairman. Talk about clash of egos. Petard meets hoist.
Rahm Emanuel really is loathesome
The rethugs aren’t gonna fall for this. if they do one thing good it’s hang together as one voting block.
The utter HUBRIS of Emanuel just amazes me. He will soon be THE most despised man in DC.
The DCCC is targeting Bill Young? This I gotta see. The last 2 elections they did everything but cold call for him. I was Samm Simpson’s treasurer in 06 and 08. In 06 she was the only one running against Young. The DCCC wouldn’t endorse her and many registered Dem voters wouldn’t donate to us unless she was endorsed by DCCC. In 08 a Rethug turned Dem used the resources of one of the local pols to primary Samm and won. It remains to be seen if Young runs again. He’ll be in his late 70s.

wow.
and I thought that *I* was getting ready to say something nasty.
I yield.
And progressives thought Hans von Spakovsky was a criminal for suppressing votes and the democratic process. Is it possible Mr. Emanuel has gone too far, or is that a logical impossibility for a Chicago pol?
Much as it pains me to listen to their phone calls or open mail with their return address, I still take time to tell them EXACTLY why I WON’T be contributing to them, but to individual candidates through Blue America.
Although now that some of those Blue America candidates are wavering on the Supplemental . . .
Were you around when Rahm was running the DCCC and refusing to fund progressive candidates, instead sending money to the likes of Heath Schuler and other Blue Dogs?
This whole BS is SO Rahm, and starting to become SO Obama.
