J-Ro:
This move just goes to show how much power a small, dedicated group of people can have, and how toxic the war in Afghanistan (as well as bailouts for European banks) is becoming.
I think that’s worth noting again. Afghanistan is playing a big role here. More and more people are questioning the rational for escalation, and more and more Members of Congress are listening. And they’re right to do it. It’s expensive, it lacks a strategy, and it lacks and endgame. In this economic climate, we shouldn’t be spending so much blood and treasure on a war without a way out.
The netroots is moving this debate, and the war funding supplemental just might get defeated. Keep up the pressure with calls and letters to the editor, so we can get those last five votes.

woohoo – nicely done pups. let’s keep the pressure on
I promise to call my congresswoman Gwen Moore Monday. My only hesitation is I am not sure which point to use. There is the Afghan War with no strategy and no expiration date. There is also the IMF funding issue which I doubt my fellow constituents would find reason to support. What do you veteran phone callers here at the Lake suggest?
both! what matters is you let her know you do not want her voting for the supplemental. you can list as many reasons as you want :)
Jane, all the work you have done on this will pay huge dividends going forward. Congress knows they will hear a ton about Afghanistan and IMF over the July 4th recess. Big win!
That energizes primary candidates to move to the left. Big win.
You are saving the soul of the Democratic party.
As you understand so well, when the economy goes off the cliff in 2010, after the $787 billion dollar stimulus runs out, the
billionaires clubdeficit hawks will invoke the Shock doctrine to hide their swoop into raid Social Security and Medicare. It’s this fight, right here, right now, that is the start of a liberal/progressive bunker against that.
Our boy has been revisiting the thread to see what’s been said since we split. Too funny. Not worth looking. I was just curious about the pathology. Always nice to be validated.
Here’s what one of the local JS wingnuts wrote “Mr. Doyle’s deficit worsens again”
I agree with Suzanne, give her both sides. We liberals/progressives are the real deficit hawks.
If the WH boys weren’t too fond of blogs before they’re gonna be real unhappy we pull this off.
Thank you. LMAO.
If we stop a war no pays attention to Generals any more and the Military Industrial Complex loses influence . Our President DDE pointed this out in one of his speeches . Well the Generals and the MIC have gained so much influence that our elected official are forever looking for another war . Along with health care , energy , and a number of other programs this Afghanistan business will continue as is because Congress will not listen to the electorate . We lost our influence on Congress a long time ago and no one Congress person has the power or influence to change things .
I still can’t get an answer from Zoe Lofgren. This is fucking pissing me off.
This is good news. Don’t anticipate the hatred, just enjoy the little victory and keep going.
