“Minnesotans have earned the right to take pride in the transparency” of the recount process, said Franken, but, the Junior Senator points out, during that time, the people of Minnesota have suffered greatly from the economic downturn. Franken spoke in Minnesota after receiving a call from former Senator Norm Coleman conceding the 2008 election. “I [...]

Franken-Coleman Update: Can They Still Afford Norm? |
| By: Phoenix Woman Tuesday June 30, 2009 12:31 pm |
It’s not out of the question formNorm Coleman to choose to ask Alito to issue a stay to keep Al Franken’s election certificate from being signed. But as Hasen noted a few weeks ago, actually getting a stay is unlikely. And considering that Norm’s legal fees for this case alone are around $145,000 a week, the NRSC may figure their money is better spent on protecting vulnerable GOP senators in next year’s elections.
Turn Maine Blue Challenges Sen. Snow to Defend Her Position Against the Public Option |
| By: Marisa McNee Tuesday June 30, 2009 11:52 am |
Gerald over at Turn Maine Blue has a great post up on Senator Snowe’s ridiculous assertion: In an interview in Portland, Snowe said it would be unfair to include a government-run health insurance option that would take effect immediately. "If you establish a public option at the forefront that goes head-to-head and competes with the [...]

Arm Twisting in the House: The Lloyd Doggett Story |
| By: Jane Hamsher Tuesday June 30, 2009 6:38 am |
We’re headed for a bad compromise unless members of Congress know that there is safety in numbers, that their constituents are aware of what’s going on and won’t let their arms get twisted into betraying their districts. This is why we need to get them on the record. Now. They need to Take the Pledge to vote against any bill that doesn’t have any health care bill if it doesn’t include a public plan that is 1) available nationwide, 2) from day one, and 3) answerable to Congress and the voters.
Looks like Jay Inslee fancies himself an enforcer. He’s in a solid progressive district and could probably use some calls asking him to Take the Pledge. His office numbers are 202-225-6311 (DC), 206-361-0233 or 360-598-2342 in Seattle. His Chief of Staff is Brian Bonlender, who can be reached at 202-225-6311, and his Press Secretary is Christine Hanson, who is at 202-225-6311.
Inslee and others need to know that we don’t want the Doggett story replayed on health care.
Your calls are having a tremendous impact — keep ‘em coming.

The “Taxing Your Benefits” Trial Balloon |
| By: Jane Hamsher Tuesday June 30, 2009 4:00 am |
The devil, as they say, is in the details. But taxing the benefits of people who agreed to work for $30,000 a year just so they could get health care coverage is a non-starter.
