The RPM (Republican Party of Minnesota) folk are doing lots of woofin’ about how they’re going to fight to the bitter end over seating Senator Franken, but at the end of the day that’s all it is: Woofin’.
For example, here’s a lovely CQ piece that features a whole bunch of RPM woofin’, all surrounding to the point of smothering the real story, which is in this graf buried midway into the article:
Republicans in the state acknowledged, however, that Pawlenty’s hands are likely to be tied by the state Supreme Court, which could require the governor to sign the certificate. Last month, a state trial court declared Franken the winner of the race by 312 votes.
In other words, once the MNSC makes its judgment, that’s it boyo. Oral arguments are set for the first of June.

About FDL Action
If the parties were reversed, can you see Tom Delay or Karl Rove sitting quietly by while a Democrat bitter-ender tries to stave off defeat?
Our National Democratic leadership is a bunch of wusses. Spineless jellyfishes that just drift with the current on autopilot, without a brain to guide them.
I’d like to see more leadership from the leadership!

Man, oh man. And people ridicule NBA players and Serena Williams for their woofin’. OMG. CQ has given just enough rope to allow Janecek and RPM spokespeople to hang themselves and make caricatures of themselves.
I’m from the state of Washington and really know little about the jerk you call “Smiling Tim”. It would seem that Pawlenty would be taking inordinate risks with the MN electorate if he chooses to delay Franken’s certification if or when the MN SC rejects Coleman’s appeal. If Tiny Tim is banking on a “pie in the sky” national run, he is on drugs or political vaporware. Wake up Tim.
Bob in #1. I agree. The Dem leadership needs both cajones and leadership. Maybe the Dem leadership should do a poll on that question. ::LMAO::
It’s when, Spike, not if.
Normie hasn’t got a legal leg to stand on. If his legal briefs were underwear briefs, they’d have racing stripes. The stuff he’s raising is that old and tired.
Additionally, there is the matter of, “Does the GOP really want to go there? on these issues. An equal protection argument is very hazardous to their election-rigging schemes.
You got me, BCT. I really believe “when” also. But I am Jewish, a scientist and I tend to be a little cautious in what I say. I have seen the most unbelievable events occur.
You are dead right on the “equal protection” issue. The GOP does not want to open Pandora’s Box.
Getting away from the legal issues, I believe that the GOP in MN is cooking its own goose with their rabid handling of Normie’s legal challenge. This will not sit well with independents like myself.
Just to cite an example of a responsible GOPer, I give you Sam Reed, Washington’s GOP Secretary of State. His responsible, fair handling of the governor’s race/fiasco recounts (in which Dem Christine Gregoire won) set a wonderful precedent for non-partisanship, responsible politics, fairness and statesmanship. He did the right thing, in spite of the vocal disapproval of local GOP leadership. He won the hearts and minds of many Dems and independents.
Following up on Sam Reed, the GOP Secretary of State for the State of Washington, here are some telling election result stats.
In the 2004 election, Reed received 51.5% of the vote, the Dem candidate 45.5% and the Libertarian 3%.
In 2008, Reed received 58.4% of the vote, and the Dem candidate 41.6%. He won all of Washington State counties except for one, San Juan County, which has fewer than 10,000 voters. It seems that his impartial, non-partisan manner and conduct garnered him more favor in 2008, an increase of 6.9 percentage points over 2004.
He is now serving his 3rd consecutive term as Secretary of State.
Possibly, voters appreciate a fair, competent, impartial, statesmanlike politician, regardless of party. Hint, hint, Tiny Tim.
