This is a surprise, folks — I thought Franken wouldn’t rest his case until Friday, but courtesy of The UpTake, we have Franken attorney Marc Elias saying that they will provisionally rest today, after calling a few more witnesses to the stand. What’s more, today is going to be a short day in court — though likely not behind the scenes — as court won’t begin until 1:30 PM Central Daylight Time instead of the usual 9:00 am time.
So why the early rest — especially considering they took one-fifth as many days as the Coleman side did to present their case? Because they think they’re got this sucker locked up:
“We feel good about how our case went,” said Franken’s lead recount lawyer Marc Elias. “We think we have put into evidence a strong case.”
And why keep their client, Al Franken, waiting even longer to get into the U.S. Senate if they feel he’s going to win this case anyway?
Team Coleman will likely spend Thursday and Friday on their counterclaims, even as the the Election Contest Court prepares to mull over the hundreds of ballots Franken’s team is introducing to be reviewed — and unlike the ballots Coleman’s people have been lobbing, the Franken team’s ballots are much more likely to have been properly cast in the first place. Next week will see the Election Contest Court ruling on which ballots are legit, then actually requesting them from the counties in question to be brought to the Secretary of State’s office to be opened and counted. And then — a ruling favoring Franken, which the Coleman camp will almost certainly appeal to the Minnesota Supreme Court in what will be their last chance at delaying the inevitable.

About FDL Action
Just so we won’t get the shakes when this is finally over, you will have to cover Senator Franken’s adventures in DC!
Heh! That I will!
The WSJ has an article today on Normie’s appeal. It’s a really good sign of just how far the reporting at the WSJ has fallen since NewsCrap took it over.
The report quotes Ginsberg as if he were Normie’s lawyer:
Funny how Ginsberg seems to suffer from logorrhea.
Just eight, maybe twelve days.
Still waiting to see O’Lielly having to call him Senator Franken …….. hahahaha
PW, since you have the floor you should definitely bring up the data leak that Coleman’s camp enabled with private donor information. This stuff hits home for people.
Heh! With luck, a day or two.
Unfortunately, due to the winter storm that blew through last night, a key witness couldn’t make it to the courtroom today, so that witness will come tomorrow, after which Franken will really rest his case.
I did, over in Silo. ;-)
senator franken, what a joke. He should be your laughing stock not a state rep. just goes to show you how bad the candidates are getting now a days.
Mea culpa. I didn’t see it. FDL staff; this stuff should be front page!
Former Cook County Republican Chairman Gary Skoien is denying a police report that said his wife found him at home with two prostitutes and beat him with her fists and a toy guitar.
The report filled out by Barrington-Inverness police says that’s what Eni Skoien told them — and that Gary Skoien confirmed the account, said Deputy Chief Jerry Libit.
“That’s how it was reported to us,” Libit said.
A police report on the incident said he told responding officers there were prostitutes with him in the play room when his wife caught him.
Would the the MN courts please please put the Coleman circus out to pasture.
We can laugh and govern at the same time. And we will never advocate denying anyone healthcare, food, shelter or education. We won’t even blow up innocent people for wasted trillions of your tax dollars.
Coleman is not much better but he is not a joke.
Coleman is indeed a joke — and so is his website. Better cancel your credit cards if you donated to him, because his site had donor credit-card info on publicly-accessible webpages, and didn’t change it even though they were told about the problem six weeks ago.
And we can laugh with a Harvard graduate and graduated cum laude in 1973 with a bachelor of arts degree in political science while he worked his way through college…… WHAT no legacy free pass?
Balrog!!! How lovely to see your name! We must be hanging around at different times. Glad to see you’re around and (I hope) well.
I like Josh Marshall’s take: Norm Coleman is the leading candidate to replace Michael Steele at the RNC.
Hey Pun, did you see this – Michael Steele is Pro- Choice – from HuffPo
… and I thought Obama had vetting problems …
“oopsie!”
Digg it
I have to berate you Murkans, esp you DFHes … thanks to yer cutbacks, we’re getting F- grade trolls !
*tsk* *tsk* *tsk*
I agree with this strategy of resting the case if all has been going according to the reporting
unless you have slam dunk, cannot be surprised information, a point you try to make might make your oponents
we’ve actually seen this from the coleman team
It’ll just be terrible and seem lengthy.
Someone is going all “ee cummings” on us. Well, I guess it’s better than ALL CAPS. ;-)
Yes, yes, yes.
Will be almost as funny as some of Franken’s other greatest hits.
I really enjoyed this out at
‘Patient’ Franken tells Senate Dems he sees ‘light at end of tunnel’ in long legal battle.
Several comments. Sheehan is either drunk, on drugs, seriously delusional, or just a psychopath. Unfortunately, I believe it to be the last choice; it seems that this is the predominant psychological makeup of the whole Coleman team and Normie himself. Nonetheless, Sheehan has a great career ahead as a fight promoter or doing TV ads for used cars. Or possibly as spokesman for the new GWB Presidential Library, Shrub’s House of Horrors.
Thanks for your great work, Phoenix Woman. You have provided a valuable service and many chuckles. Living here in Taipei, far from my hometown of Portland OR, your blog is a great way for me to follow this race, campaign, contest or whatever you choose to call it. And I used to think that Taiwanese politics was the ultimate in election insanity.
