I agree…it might suggest that they don’t speak English. “Democrat is a noun…”‘He is a Democrat”; Democratic is an adjective “The Democratic platform…or the Democratic Party”.

And didn’t they realize that she was Greek-American? Maybe they thought that calling her “Graeco-American” might suggest that she was into wrestling?

But as pointed out, Collins and Snowe are likely to be around a lot longer than Steele, who is number 6 in a series of 1-2 year GOP party heads. Of course, maybe he has a long-term strategy for beating them in the Primary that he’ll pass on to his successor(s).

Ze Planz: to drive all the Mainers out of the party that even say hello to a Democrat, who send their kids to school with Democrats teachers, and who drive on tax-supported roads. The remaining five “non-socialists” might then go 3-2 against the incumbents, who have since created an independent party.

Personally, I hope Steele does try to primary Collins and Snowe. It’ll force them to run farther to the right, and then Mainers can vote for a better candidate on the left instead. That would be the ultimate revenge Mainers could take for meddling in their state’s politics.

And I know you progressive Mainers have done a LOT of groundwork over the last 4 years to improve grassroots’ activism; one of your folks was highly instrumental in providing some influential documentation that helped us in Michigan, for which I will always be grateful. I’d be only to happy to donate to a Dem Mainer running against anybody Steele wants to field as a thank you for that generosity.

This is almost as stupid as when the GOP ran ads in Maine to pressure Snowe, calling her “America’s Franco-American Senator”, as if we were supposed to vote against anything French. Meanwhile, with a substantial population of native French speakers in the state, they unintentionally endorsed her and turned a lot of conservative Mainers against the national GOP.
