Supporting the watered-down stimulus, and being out-front on a compromise with Democratic leadership and the Obama Administration, will come at great price for these three.
As John Aravosis writes, "This is why the GOP usually votes in lock-step. They’re viciously brutal if you don’t."
Michael Steele goes on to explain that if the state Republican party wants the RNC to get involved with retribution, they will.

About FDL Action
Dugg right here, please join me!
Dees senators need to learn that they are not here to think or to listen to their constituents. Dey vil do vat the masters of shrinking universe tell them or dey vil feel da wrath of da Rush.
I keep trying to digg get to site, click on digg, and message comes up that I must be logged in to digg. Top line says logout. I logout then relog in get back in click digg and get the same message that I must be logged in. WTF
Steele is a brain-dead twerp. Snowe still has 4 years left on her term, and Collins was just re-elected(meaning the chance exists that we could be 2 years into a Rethuglican presidency before they can toss out Collins .. which also means Steele could long be unemployed by then).
It was kicking people out earlier. Hopefully they fixed it now.
Short answer – digg is alas not under FDL control :)
All I can recommend is to clear cache and cookies, possibly reboot. Do you have a different browser, sometimes when safari is giving me fits I can make things work on firefox. Hope this helps.
I hope you are distinguishing between logon for digg, and logon for FDL. They are entirely separate.
another hissy fit, brought to you by Wingnutz On Parade
the Democrats appreciate your efforts
Log in and out at the digg site
And this would be bad for Democrats why? Get the wingnuts to knock off the nice moderate Pubs, and then we can put nice moderate Democrats in place. And there goes their filibuster option.
In Minnesota last year, six bold Republicans dared to vote with the Dems to override Governor Timmy’s veto of a major transportation bill. They were absolutely brutalized by the party, to wit:
Wow! I want me some of that respect, too!
why don’t we just try to flip them to the dem caucus .. ala richard shelby ..
The trains run on time huh?
digg has been buggin’ the ‘ell outa me lately
I used to be able to stay logged in all the time, now I have to log in at least three times before it takes, and even then when I try to digg something it sez I’m not logged in
it’s enough to make me bald pulling my hair out.
Seems like Steele backtracked today
http://tpmdc.talkingpointsmemo…..imulus.php
Is Steele a loose canon?
The Democrats could learn something about party discipline. If these three are promised a primary challenge, someone like Lieberman would have been…
he isn’t gonna last long as RNC chairman, imo
This kind of coverage keeps reminding me of why CNBC fired Cavuto..now I’m not saying CNBC is a haven of balanced folks (look at Santelli and others) but at least they can tell when someone has no skills at all – Cavuto…
Steele and Cavuto seem to be cut from the same cloth..never met a talking point they didn’t read along with the KoolAide reward. Before each show, Murdoch should be FORCED to do somewhat PSA-like announcement that NO BRAIN CELLS ARE AT WORK ON THE FOLLOWING PROGRAM SEGMENT.
Either announcer OR guest.
In order to be a loose cannon you first have to have a barrel to shoot things through. Let’s see – mouth. Check.
Then you must have something to shoot through it. Let’s see – Bu**sh*t. Check.
Then you have to have someone to light the fuse. Let’s see – RNC. Check.
Of course, a loose cannon is not secured to its moorings and the shot goes wildly in any direction…
Including back at the people who lit the fuse.
Ha Ha!
From your link:
Of course, he forgot to add, “except for Jim Bunning”
I go into uncontrollable giggles every time I think of the Rs as being the “hip-hop” party. Nixon must be twirling in the cold, cold ground.
Red Leg!
Yea, they were down at the convention weren’t they?
A continuation of the ready, fire, aim Rethug methodology
According to Josh, Steele backtracked.
Yeah. I can easily picture the backbone of the Republican party, the states of the old Confederacy, cheerfully lining up behind Steele and a “hip-hop” Republican party.
Someone is delusional. I don’t think it’s me, not this time.
See # 15 What are we drinkin tonight? *g*
Do these idiots look at the polls? Yeah they are going to have to go through a primary and that’s why they voted for the stim. The latest poll shows that Americans believe the president is working with republicans but the republicans are not working with Americans.
Man, I am so sick of this sheiss, speaking as a California, whose gop members are being held hostage as well. Why does the GOP hate DEMOCRACY so much? Their voters are supposed to be in charge, dammit.
I don’t think any “fiscally responsible” person dem or rep would say hey, we don’t need no stinking budget!
Yes. They look, and disregard the ones that don’t say what they want, or who disagree with Rush.
OT – George Lakoff at TruthOut has a great article on “the Obama Code”
did you see my silver streak clip/link yesterday?
That’s right. Dayam, they are a principled lot and it’s more important to stick to their guns than to be popular! Uncle Dick taught them that!
Arrived late, read the post, got bored with comments about digg not working, so I flipped down & added my comment. Then went back & saw you were on it.
Thinking about opening a bottle of wine for Obama’s speech. May I pour you a glass then?
no, direct me, please. and thanks
Sure thing – holding glass out.
Silver Streak
the best part is at the end when the shoeshine guy says “you must be in a lot of trouble, son, but FGS, learn to keep time!”
“I’m always open to everything, baby!” The new hip-hop, urban-suburban GOP is here!
I adore Michael Steele. Guaranteed amusement.
Never have seen as much polyester in my life! They were truly pathetic.
Here you guys, have one of these:
The bonds of unity, “my good friends”, the benefit of all, what’s mine is mine and yours too. Take your hands off of it. Get offa my cloud.
Shorter Steele: “Heretics must be punished!”
The only good thing is that Collins, Snowe and Specter get to choose whether it is the Rack or Burning at the Stake.
Shorter Repugs: “A fun time will be had by all!”
Just picture Tricky Dick in the subway station saying
“I…cannot pass…for black…”
I guess it was better than those smirky punks with their purple bandaids.
Um, you’re gonna be holding your glass out for awhile. I’m opening the bottle just before Obama’s speech. *g*
Shorter Steele: “Heretics must be punished!”
Just as the 6 republicans in Kawliifornya were punished for finally saving the state from going insolvent and voting to pass a budget.
total classic,
wish I had a Guinness, and a mudskipper
No wonder I find Obama’s speeches empty rhetoric. I get the empathy thing, the value thing, etc. I want to know what he’s gonna do with those values. I don’t want him to tell me his values, I want to be able to determine his values for myself from what he does. Thanks for the link. Explained a lot.
slainte!
I just found this:
Michael Steele’s Warmup Band (for the road show):

I know, I know. Brutal. But funny…
New post—>
That silver streak is hilarious. thanks
you’re welkie! see ya upstairs…
TPM says Steele is already backtracking. It seems he forgot that the alternative to Collins and Snowe, and probably to Specter, is Democrats.
Who’s going to school the republicans on when to use “democrat” and when to use “democratic”? I sure wish Schuster had with Issa yesterday. I’m just sick of it. They should be called on it every single time, and made to repeat the sentence until they get it right.
If they want to behave as children, they should be treated like children.
Republican meetings are going to be so much fun
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bSg_04wWe4Y
I like that. And if they get all snippy about being corrected, remind them that “if they want to behave as children, they should be treated like children.”
My idiot congresstard does this in his newsletters. These people need to step aside and let the grownups have a shot at it for awhile…
Is that footage of the RNC in Minneapolis? I think I saw Eric Cantor.
Steele is clearly an idiot. This is an utterly empty threat. Speaking as a Mainer, a comment like this utterly dooms any chance to unseat them from within the GOP. Mainers don’t take kindly to interference from outside.
This is almost as stupid as when the GOP ran ads in Maine to pressure Snowe, calling her “America’s Franco-American Senator”, as if we were supposed to vote against anything French. Meanwhile, with a substantial population of native French speakers in the state, they unintentionally endorsed her and turned a lot of conservative Mainers against the national GOP.
It’s trash talk, the kind of stuff jocks indulge in, realizing that 2 to 4 years from now no one will remember what they said today.
Personally, I hope Steele does try to primary Collins and Snowe. It’ll force them to run farther to the right, and then Mainers can vote for a better candidate on the left instead. That would be the ultimate revenge Mainers could take for meddling in their state’s politics.
And I know you progressive Mainers have done a LOT of groundwork over the last 4 years to improve grassroots’ activism; one of your folks was highly instrumental in providing some influential documentation that helped us in Michigan, for which I will always be grateful. I’d be only to happy to donate to a Dem Mainer running against anybody Steele wants to field as a thank you for that generosity.
I like it. On that basis, we should encourage Mikey to keep doing what he’s doing. I wonder what the Party Brass are saying about their new Front Guy right about now?
New post—>
These Republicans…have they lost all sense of strategic planning? They run an extremist conservative against any of these people and, even if the wingnut wins the primary…they’ll lose the General. So instead of having someone voting with them 90% of the time, and being a useful toady to water-down Democratic majority bills…they’ll have a Democratic Senator. And a solid Democratic Senate Majority!
But as pointed out, Collins and Snowe are likely to be around a lot longer than Steele, who is number 6 in a series of 1-2 year GOP party heads. Of course, maybe he has a long-term strategy for beating them in the Primary that he’ll pass on to his successor(s).
Ze Planz: to drive all the Mainers out of the party that even say hello to a Democrat, who send their kids to school with Democrats teachers, and who drive on tax-supported roads. The remaining five “non-socialists” might then go 3-2 against the incumbents, who have since created an independent party.
“Franco-American”? Didn’t they learn anything from the Muskie “Canuck” incident? Jeez Loueez.
And didn’t they realize that she was Greek-American? Maybe they thought that calling her “Graeco-American” might suggest that she was into wrestling?
“Who’s going to school the republicans on when to use “democrat” and when to use “democratic”? I sure wish Schuster had with Issa yesterday. I’m just sick of it. They should be called on it every single time, and made to repeat the sentence until they get it right.”
I agree…it might suggest that they don’t speak English. “Democrat is a noun…”‘He is a Democrat”; Democratic is an adjective “The Democratic platform…or the Democratic Party”.
That’s funny, and it’s a trailer FOX could find other use for as well…
That’s not a backtrack, that’s a nuance.
Love yer handle
