Franken-Coleman Update, 02/27/09: Under the Bus |
| By: Phoenix Woman Friday February 27, 2009 8:35 pm |
This has been a bombshell day to cap off a bombshell week. As noted earlier today, not only is Pamela Howell’s testimony yet again in question, but the whole Coleman-camp double-counting scenario she was supposed to bolster is in danger of being tossed.
Franken-Coleman Update, 02/27/09 (AM Edition): Oh. My. Goodness. |
| By: Phoenix Woman Friday February 27, 2009 9:09 am |
This was supposed to be the last day of testimony by Coleman’s witnesses — and it may well end in sanctions for Joe Friedberg, Tony Trimble, and a few other members of the Coleman legal team. Why? Because it turns out that, contrary to her testimony given earlier this week, Pamela Howell really was in deep communications — including e-mails — with the Coleman legal team concerning her testimony and evidence that she somehow neglected to present to either the Franken team or the ECC.
Franken-Coleman Update, 02/26/09 (PM Edition): Pro Hac Vice to Pro Hack |
| By: Phoenix Woman Thursday February 26, 2009 2:10 pm |
Remember how Ben Ginsberg, one of the Florida 2000 recount veterans on the Republican side who were parachuted in to help out the Coleman legal team, asked to be officially let into the legal proceedings with a pro hac vice plea? There have been some mutterings about how, if he’s supposed to be an officer of the court, it’s rather unseemly for him to be having the sort of blowhardish, horsepuckey-laden, grandstanding press conferences in which he’s been hurling all manner of factually-unsupported statements that he doesn’t dare utter in open court. There may well have been threats to have him sanctioned over his behavior. This would explain why he’s suddenly withdrawn his pro hac vice motion.
Franken-Coleman Update, 02/26/09 (AM Edition): Mercy That Really Isn’t |
| By: Phoenix Woman Thursday February 26, 2009 9:25 am |
The Election Contest Court, which had apparently allowed the non-stop shenanigans of Team Coleman to get on its last nerve yesterday afternoon, has decided after a period of reflection to issue a order that vacates their previous one striking Coleman witness Pamela Howell’s testimony. But this is not the apparent act of mercy for Team Coleman that it seems at first glance.
Franken-Coleman Update, 02/25/09: Another Oopsie by Team Coleman |
| By: Phoenix Woman Wednesday February 25, 2009 9:43 pm |
Pamela Howell is an election judge (her territory was Ward 12, Precinct 8 in Minneapolis) and one of Team Coleman’s witnesses. Her purpose was to bolster Norm’s claim that double counting of ballots had happened, and she seemed well-prepared — too well-prepared. It came out under cross-examining by Franken attorney David Lillehaug that she’d, erm, had her memory refreshed with information not made available to Team Franken. This and other things led to her testimony being struck from the record.
Franken-Coleman Update, 02/24/09: Bang Bang Bang Went The Nail |
| By: Phoenix Woman Tuesday February 24, 2009 8:59 pm |
Bang bang bang! Hear that? That was yet another nail in Norm Coleman’s election contest coffin: “The Minnesota election court has just handed down another key ruling, totally denying Norm Coleman’s attempt to undo his previous agreement that 933 previously-rejected absentee ballots be included in the recount — and which favored Al Franken by a 176-vote margin.”
Michael Steele on Collins, Snowe & Specter: “They’re gonna have to go through a primary” |
| By: Teddy Partridge Tuesday February 24, 2009 11:26 am |
Asked by FOX’s Cavuto about possible RNC “retribution” against Senators Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins (both of Maine) and Pennsylvania Senator Arlen Specter, hip-hop RNC Chair Michael Steele promises all three a primary.
Franken-Coleman Update, 02/23/09: A Few Loose Ends |
| By: Phoenix Woman Monday February 23, 2009 3:11 pm |
While the Coleman contest trial winds down to the nitty-gritty, and Coleman’s chances get ever slimmer even as the universe of rejected absentee ballots to be counted shows signs of tipping in Franken’s favor, I thought it might be time to do a little bit of housecleaning.
Carly Coy on Boxer Battle |
| By: Teddy Partridge Monday February 23, 2009 10:14 am |
Failed Hewlett-Packard CEO and infamous golden parachute recipient Carly Sneed Fiorina was coy about a possible 2010 challenge to Barbara Boxer when speaking with the political press in Sacramento after her “remarkable” speech in which she said “when somebody takes $40 million a year for failure, we cannot defend that.”
