So much for disagreeing without being disagreeable — Pastor Rick™ needs to tend some fields close to home before he issues another screed about bloggers and the intolerant left. Orange County Southern Baptist pastor Wiley Drake says ‘God will punish Rick Warren‘ for accepting Barack Obama’s invitation.
"I pray He is kind to you in this punishment that is coming," Drake wrote in a widely-released e-mail. In it, the First Southern Baptist Church of Buena Park pastor criticizes Warren’s "recent plan to invoke the presence of almighty God on this evil illegal alien," a reference to Obama.
Apparently, the response to Pastor Wiley™ has been "overwhelmingly" favorable:
Drake said Warren, also a Southern Baptist minister, is "hurting our denomination, and the Lord’s work."
He continued: "God will deal with you on this … God will not wink at this."
Warren did not immediately return messages seeking comment.
"It’s an abomination before God and God’s going to deal with that," Drake, in an interview, said about Warren’s role in the inauguration. "I’ve gotten several e-mails in response, and overwhelmingly, they have been supportive."

Ah, the “Squeeze Rick Warren” play.
This is a good thing!
Dugg.
This actually plays into Warren’s hands. He’s trying to depict himself as The Sane Evangelical, and Wiley’s attacks, while they play well with the hardcore base, will be seen as yet more proof that Warren — who has already ticked off the hardcores with his progressive-by-comparison stances on the environment, AIDS, and Islam (he met Melissa Etheridge at an event put on by an LA Muslim group) — is what he touts himself as being.
Or it’s just a market-share battle, since Pastor Wiley™ is also in the OC.
In my weak moments I wish there were a god for fucks like these.
Or it might just prove that Pastor Rick™ is a divisive figure, as many have been saying since Obama made the choice.
Many in the evangelical community find Pastor Rick™ to be a poor theologian when it comes ot their brand of Christianity–to namby pamby and not ture enough to the gopel–even with the dinosaurs.
Unfortunately, Phoenix Woman has it exactly right. Warren could not have gained a bigger PR windfall if he’d paid for it. (Unless, of course, he did.)
The objective facts — that Drake is a lunatic while critics of Warren’s own intolerance are right on the merits — mean nothing in our media environment. Warren will exploit a narrative of false equivalence between “intemperate” remarks from the right and “Christophobic” attacks from the left as “proof” that he is a moderate beacon of tolerance.
You raise a good point about the payment, since it took a while for a local Southern Baptist to denounce Pastor Rick™.
If you claim to speech in God’s name you better be able to light a fire.

My Bold
How much longer before America makes up their mind? 8 years we have suffered as a born again leader turned out to be false, we have faced disasters in war, we are impoverished and divided.
By their fruits you shall know them and their fruit is rotten.
Like bully’s everywhere Rick and Bush scream about how mean we are because we defend ourselves.
My bold didn’t work?
Warren’s books have come under criticism from some conservative evangelical Christians who question the practices promoted in these books, claiming that they distort the Gospel and employ questionable tactics.[16] Others express concern over what is described as the divisive nature of Warren’s techniques. Wall Street Journal writer Suzanne Sataline cites examples of congregations who have split over Purpose Driven growth strategies and congregations who have expelled members who fought Purpose Driven changes.[16] In an effort to defend Warren, Richard Abanes, a Christian author, journalist, and apologist, has written a book and extensive articles researching many of these criticisms.[17]

This is the guy who Obama brings from the other side to be inclusive? Whats next ask Bush for advice on the economy? Ask Rummy how to win a war?
I so do love the certainty with which the self-appointed yet humble spokesmen for God yammer.

If God exists he has already punished these clowns by making them both @**holes.
Looks like Pastor Wiley would very much enjoy being the instrument of divine wrath on this one.
Huh, calling our new President an “evil illegal alien?” The “illegal” part shows that he consumes wingnut media. Ya think this dude uses his church and pulpit for political speeches much?
Perhaps the IRS should investigate.
