The President-elect’s super-fan Oprah Winfrey is reportedly house hunting in Washington DC for a home mansion so she can be closer to her new BFFs, the Obama family. According to Page Six she’s inquired about a nine-bedroom, $50 million dollar Georgetown pied-a-terre, though the media queen hasn’t actually seen it in person.
Maybe I am missing something here in when it comes to stratospheric finances, but on Oprah’s favorite things give-away show, which aired November 26, there was some significant downsizing with a statement explaining:
They’re some of Oprah’s favorite things, but this time there’s a twist … they cost next to nothing!
Um…so instead of giving her audience nice prezzies like in the past–you know camcorders or fridges with HD-TVs in the front–Oprah is gonna spend heaps and heaps on a fancy house, in the hope she’ll have access to the president?
And didn’t she just close down her O at Home magazine, putting a few folks out of work? Maybe they’ll find work on her new cable network…
Maybe I am naive or Pollyannish, but it strikes me that even with Oprah’s annual income of $275 million maybe there’s a better way for her to spend for her hard-earned cash–and a better message she can be sending to her adoring fans…

Call me naive but I think Oprah’s idea to establish a home in Washington is a good thing….for the Obama family in general and her legions of fans in particular.
She originally is from neighboring Baltimore, isn’t She? I am intrigued, though, by your line of thought. Why do you think it would be beneficial?
