Here are four things Chris Matthews doesn’t know today:
1. Ceci Connolly: Karl Rove will lead the Capitol Hill fight against the Eric Holder AG nomination.
2. Eugene Robinson: the Obama team hasn’t yet struck the right tone for an Inaugural amidst national crisis.
3. Andrea Mitchell: the commander of the Fifth Fleet in Bahrain publicly contradicted Secretary Rice on pursuing pirates into Somalia.
4. Andrew Sullivan: the Obama team may seek to convene a Truth Commission to fully investigate and Bush war crimes before any decisions are made on prosecution.

5. Some Iraqi journalist would chuck his shoes at Bush.
I like #4 the best.
What is the point of a Truth Commission? We already know what most of the crimes are. The Truth commission is a way of blocking prosecution, not facilitating it.
That is not to say that it is not a legitimate option. But it ought to have some teeth, like a way to reach findings of guilt and innocence that can somehow block malefactors from working for the government in the future. Otherwise, what is to keep the next GOP government from issuing blanket pardons in order to hire the next set of Eliot Abramses?
Prediction: Lee Hamilton will be the token “Democrat” on the Truth Commission. They’ll issue a sternly worded letter, and nothing will come out of it. Guaranteed.
I wonder if Andrea Mitchell even knows that the commander of the Fifth Fleet doesn’t work for Condi Rice.
