Big news on the recount front today, all of it very good for Al Franken.
Good News Story #1: Both the Minnesota Independent and The UpTake report that the 133 Minneapolis ballots from the U of M precinct that were machine-counted on November 4 but went missing during the recount will in fact be included in the recount. As that part of Minneapolis is heavily Democratic, these ballots will favor Franken.
Good News Story #2: The state canvassing board, after much prodding from Secretary of State Mark Ritchie, recommended that "allegedly" wrongly-rejected absentee ballots should be reviewed and counted by the various county elections boards. As Ritchie noted at today’s meeting, 49 of Minnesota’s 87 counties have completed their work, three have completed but not yet reported their results, and 23 counties will start the work today.
It’s going to take a couple more weeks to render this official, but it’s looking good for Franken.

WOOT, WOOT!!!
Go Team Franken !!!
That’s great news, PW. Franken is not only a Democrat, but he is a real progressive.
I’m sitting here laughing at PW’s post title. Love it!
Good for Franken. It’s nice to have ONE Democrat with integrity and balls the size of a bread bin.
Wait a minute! The post title is different on this page. Huh. FDL must have gotten the updated title.
At long last, we may have a REAL comedian in the Senate.
One who will be able to spot a fake when he sees one.
Thrilled is too mild a word for the anticipation.
C’MONNNNNNNNNNNNNNN FRANKEN!!!
Could it be that rather than continuing passive obstruction of the examination of rejected absentee ballots, and thereby enabling Coleman to hang on to a slim margin, we Minnesotans have decided to take a look at those pesky ballots because it looks like we might have a little ‘Ted Stevens’ style corruption meltdown under way?

I mean we could avoid some embarrassment if it turns out that Franken has won the election after all, right?
If you’ve ever listened to Garrison Keillor, you’d know how much Minnesotans hate to draw attention to themselves.
Al is good enough, Al is smart enough, and doggone it, people like him.
You betcha by golly fer shure!
Hee! We do that just to confuse you.
EYYYY?
This is why it was so important for the GOP to hold onto Saxby’s seat. The Party bosses knew 1) Franken would win the recount and, 2) Coleman would probably be indicted.

i withhold my vote fer al until after i see what he does re: iraq/afg/pak/iran
I’ve been monitoring this issue on the internet and this is the first thread I’ve seen that isn’t dominated by completely uninformed Republican “stolen election” crazies.
All told, the recount has gone as well as it possibly could have. Even the Minnesota Repulicans haven’t been terribly stinky.
So far.
I call it 50-50 now, but that’s just a guess. Franken isn’t home free, though.
Yup. They’re trying to make it look like it’s Florida 2000, but the simple fact is that the recount is actually par for the course as recounts go.
It won’t have officially wound up for another few weeks, but it’s set on a course that guarantees a full and fair counting of all ballots. Norm, after all the screeching about how “Coleman’s going to slow this thing down with bogus lawsuits”, doesn’t dare file any himself. Not if he’s smart.
And yes, there is a chance that the rising tide of scandal around Norm Coleman may render a ballot box victory moot — but then again, if Norm is hauled off to jail after 01/20/09 while still a sitting senator, our Republican governor, Smilin’ Tim Pawlenty, gets to appoint his replacement.
Yesssssssssss!
I have lingering concerns that he might not be able to mute all his latent snarkabilities, and I simply don’t care.
He’s a smart, well educated guy. Besides, I read his book on that overgrown frolicker rush. That alone puts him light-years beyond Coleman, and even a tad more prompt and accurate at truthiness than any MSM forces I can think of.
Oh, so they’re admitting there was something fishy about Florida 2000?
I noticed. *looking around the room* Can someone please keep us straight around here!!!
That’s the hilarious thing. Lots of Republicans WILL bring up Florida 2000.
Though what they mean by that is “the time when Gore tried to steal the election”.
unlike the President elect
OT: Our outgoing W has delivered the commencement address to the Dec grads, the TX aggies. Pleassssssss….no aggie jokes. O Dear, what a downer.
