bgrothus - i have read only the first book and saw the movie this weekend. It appears to me that it has little to nothing to do with the Mormon religion. The only stretch that anyone could even make is that Mormons believe that we live forever after this life (as do all Christians, Jews, Muslims, Hindus, etc.) and that the Vampires also live forever, but that is a hard stretch.

I did not think I would like the book, and movie but I did. It is a romance, but she is a very good writer and it was easy to read. I read the first book in one day, so if you want to tackle it, it’s not hard.

Before Nov. 4th, there were very few celebrities willing to say a word to defeat Prop 8, and at the end of the day you could count on one hand the A-list celebrities willing to speak out. That hurt us, and it’s a reason why we lost (among others).

Awesome to hear Michael Welch say this! I hope there will be many more of his generation who speak out the next time. It’s vitally important that they do.

I have read a critique of Stephanie Meyers’ writings, that she uses her writings to promote her Morman religion, that the books are racist, etc. I asked teh teenagers over the weekend if they noticed this in the movie or the books, but they say they are not familiar. . .have not read all the books yet.

Is the movie seen as Morman propaganda? The subject (vampires?) does not interest me, and I really don’t care to see it for any reason, the least of which is Morman and etc.
