For the next election, Minnesota should have a law requiring counties to review absentee ballot envelopes as soon as they receive them, and promptly inform a voter if there is an issue.

That way, if a voter didn’t sign the envelope, or he’s not on the registration list, etc., then he can fix the problem well before Election Day.

I always felt that the Dems should have run a more seasoned candidate than Franken. I always thought this race should have been a blowout, even with a third party candidate running, but Franken has never run a campaign before. A more veteran candidate would have blown Coleman out of the water.

I just can’t get my head around the idea that improperly rejected absentee ballots wouldn’t be counted. Otherwise, what’s to stop partisan shenanigans on the part of local election officials? “well…your vote actually should have counted, but you’re just SOL. Not your mistake, but too bad…”
