Strong stuff. Nice to see FDL up on the screen at MSNBC.
I think the story is being framed in a way that is unfavorable to our interests.
The question is not whether Lieberman can caucus with Dems, it is whether he ought to keep his gavel as chair of Homeland Security, a decision made by the Senate Leadership and Democratic caucus.
Kos was on MSNBC earlier today and made exactly that point. That HoJo sucked as Homeland Security chair.
I was watching this live earlier today and was so excited to see FireDogLake referenced for this segment! As usual, Jane Hamsher kicked ass and it made the news.
MTM – More Than Miffed!
I like the idea that the Department of Homeland Security will be dismantled and Lieberman will be left holding a limp gavel
Oh, common. Get with the program. Postpartisanship means splitting the difference between W and DLC.
I swear I heard James Boyce earlier in the interview above say about Joe, “he’s not a republican, he’s not a Democrat, he’s Lieberman…”
I think we’ll be seeing FDL referenced more often on the nightly news from now on. Just a hunch
Good gawd. Sarah Palin did an interview today to pardon a turkey and behind her is a guy putting a whole turkey into this thingamajiggy. What the hell! They’re blocking out what is happening behind her with a blur spot on the screen.
I think we’ll be seeing FDL referenced more often on the nightly news from now on. Just a hunch
I’ve heard Jane’s name mentioned a few times now on MSNBC….
Yep – Jane’s ‘pundit-worthy’ now…
I noticed she was wearing a Burberry scarf. Now where the hell did she get that? Neiman Marcus or Little Lucy’s Thrift Shop in Anchorage? Spit.
and she’s wearing my goddamned scarf…!
crap.
You sure it wasn’t the PETA video of the turkey farm?
silly me, i thought the election was about change. when did it become bipartisanship?
the turkey farm was on the outskirts of the village of Janjucol
Raising the age old Q of whether lip service is better than no service at all.
Details.
LOL Jayt!
SouthernDragon, I don’t know but I got lightheaded watching what was happening behind her. It was an open funnel and the turkey was put down it head first with it’s feet stick up and the guy holding it. Maybe it was nothing, but it was something, because it was blocked out with a blur spot and the guy kept turning around and smiling. Even Sarah Palin’s voice was kind of cracking a little as if she was maybe feeling a little uncomfortable too.
Yes, silly you. The “change” was about postpartisanship. You & I are far too old and politicly challenged to understand the sea change.
Yes Rave, details! What the hell was that machine? Was it cutting the turkey’s head off? *feeling lightheaded again just typing those words*
lol!
I don’t know anything about how turkeys are slaughtered but that may have been a turkey guillotine.
maybe i should cancel the turkey i ordered?
10 mins of googling
Who would not be angry? We invaded the wrong country Ossama is in Pakistan not Iraq. Joe as homeland security chair never did anything about investigating Bush doing nothing to fix New Orleans. If you are not angy you are not paying attention.
Or you have not looked at the stockmarket.
Bush just might beat Hoover as worse president ever!
I had a PhD friend who used mice in experiments and he had a gizmo that worked something like that.
Agreed! However, IIRC Jane Hamsher will not be content if we merely take the gavel out of his hands. Again, IIRC, I think she wants him out of the party, doesn’t she?
Bob in HI
They don’t wait until the turkeys die of old age.
I think Obama is actually trying to do what Bush promised he would do and never did: bring the country together. To continue being partisan while controlling both the White House and Congress would just be a rehash of Bush, Dem-style. I have to give BO credit on this one. It’s refreshing.
Only if you promise to feel sorry for the potatoes & cranberries you serve with it.
I think it was a turkey guillotine! Good gawd. And no Selise, don’t cancel the turkey you ordered, because quite frankly, none of us want to know how they’re slaughtered….but….for the Alaskan Princess to do an interview in front of a turkey having it’s head cut off and guy (and a couple people who were behind the camera) chuckling is not the memory any of us want to have!
I hate her. If she decides to run in 2012 for the presidency, then Barack needs to show her pardoning a turkey and then show her standing in front of (probably!) the same turkey actually being slaughtered behind her. I’m telling you….it will gross out voters!
Yongjugol. You couldn’t go to the ville until you had been in country 30 days. When you were an FNG they would regale you with wild tails of gobble gobble and you couldn’t really figure it out till you went there. Think Sin City at An Khe.
you don’t want to know.
Geez, in my much younger days when we killed mice for chromosome studies, we just dumped them into a beaker, poured in a bunch of ether, and covered over the top while they quickly twitched to death.
I’ve just started the section in Shock Doctrine where Naomi talks about the boondoggle known as Homeland Security. It’s no wonder Short Ride doesn’t want to hold hearings. I was aware of some of the privatization of the govt but I didn’t know the real extent of it.
I know. Just my imagination is killing me right now.
no. i’m pretty sure they’re all going to die on tuesday, as they’ve been raised to be someone’s dinner. think i’ll try to go back to happy ignorance about how they die and focus on the nice life they’ve had on the farm.
Pat was much more humane than that. He didn’t like doing it at all but…
He landed a gig with some firm in Houston and when I talked to him then he said that still haunted him.
Heh. Rachel just said that Rs are blaming O for when their toast falls jelly side down. I want immunity from such recriminations.
I’m doing the usual Thanxgiver with friends but they know I won’t eat any bird. Plenty of other stuff to gorge myself on.
I haven’t been haunted at all. Guess that sez all you need to know about me.
Here’s what Ted Kennedy is up to today.
FDL is still moaning about Joe Lieberman.
I love you on but we have work to do.
“when their toast falls jelly side down”
Bah hahahahahahaha! Gawd I love Rachel. Thanks for sharing, eCAHN.
Digg is open Pups for your Digging Pleasure!
And in answer to the question are liberal blogers angry about Liarman….. Fuck Yes!
Malcomb Gladwell on Rachel. World’s most pompous man?
Nice hair, Malcolm.
Crap. Ted today.
Pat is a very gentle soul with cojones the size of bowling balls. We used to climb part way down a cliff to a ledge where we could watch whales as they migrated north. This on OR coast. I used to tease him that we should rappel down but that didn’t go over very well.
But you do not understand the backstory. selise just received, by US post, a pint of preserves from me. So I was warning her that if she spread my preserves and susequently dropped her toast, I want to be held immune.
The other point we should bring up about LIEberman is….campaigning for McCain was also campaigning for George Bush and his policies. Do the Dumbos in the Senate understand this? Nope! They think ole Joe is an asset to the progressive cause. Spit.
good for you.
There’s also this

Heckava job Joe … ya ever read that document you swear to uphold and defend?
707!!!
The old fire is still there. Bless him. What a great Senator.
And this is why we love Ted Kennedy. *g*
I’m a former (female) rock climber who no longer has cojones. I used to luv looking at the valley from the cliff, but the last time I climbed, I decided that the mental vacuum cleaner that was so theraputic when I was on Wall St, no longer held any attraction.
I get a nice layer of cat hair when my toast goes jelly side down.
I never used to have a problem with heights. Now it’s a different story. Don’t what that’s all about. Never had a bad fall or anything.
thank you for that link.
it’s especially powerful knowing what he’s going through himself – and yet he presses on.
edit – Don’t know what that’s…
Sheesh
Trying to get as many people as possible to listen to this to keep the agitation going.
http://antiwar.com/radio/2008/…..h-sottile/
ted: what is it about this [minimum wage increase] that drives you [republicans] so crazy?
I don’t have any problem with heights. Just the vacuum of getting there. The last “climb” I followed is named “Triple Bulges.” The final, third, pitch, is easy (5.3) but you need to move around the bulges without seeing what’s on the other side. I knew that. But, still, I didn’t like it.
Just read barbara Kingsolver’s book Animal, Vegetable, Miracle, and if she can guillotine a turkey, then I’m not going to call Sarah Palin on the same act.
love kingsolver – but haven’t read that one.
i don’t think they have the same ‘intent’, so it isn’t the same act.
and i am surprised you can draw a likeness if you read the book….
mary matlin explaining the same thinga s we speak on fox….no shit. but what she describes is the shadow grazer.
“I get a nice layer of cat hair when my toast goes jelly side down.”
At my house we call that ruffage.
meow.
hey, this is old news.
you can tell because the market ticker had the dow jones in positive territory…
Where do these republican talking heads get the notion that we elected Obama for bi-partisanship? Where have they been for the last two years? The Obama message is being hijacked, and the liberal bloggers are being scape goated and villainized once again. Nobody is talking about the historical reasons why we have issues with Lieberman just the petty campaign ones.
Ben Porritt is among the most vapid of the Gooper SpokesNuts™. I’m sure that if one of the better flacks was run out there, you would have been swayed.
I was at the Liberal Blogger Bar last night, and I was so mad I blurted out “All politicians are a$$h*les!!!” A guy at the end of the bar got offended and yelled “You take that back!” I asked “Why, are you a politician?” He said “No, I’m an a$$h*le”
Jane wants Joe out of the Senate and she helped make the happen in 2006, almost but for Lieberman’s friends in DC and Barack Obama. So if that, then yes, she wants him out of the Democratic Party but here’s the thing.
The original question was whether Joe Traitor Droopy-Dog War-Monger Deceitful-Liar Bush-kissing Fuckhead should keep his seniority (as a Democrat) and his gavel in light of HIS choice during the election to support McCain, Coleman and Collins, to lie about Obama on the campaign trail, and to perform inadequetly as chair over the last four years.
Imagine of the thrust of the objection to Joe’s chaiormanship of Homeland was Joe’s performance over the last four and not vengeance. Where would we be now?
Reid met with him and said, we’re not happy, there has to be a consequence, we’re taking away homeland and giving you a subcommittee gavel. Joe countered with an implied threat, do that and I may need to make a choice.
Then Joe went to work calling in chits and reframing the story in the press, as a question of whether the Dems were going to throw him out of the party. How unreasonable and punitive. It worked.
By allowing it to be framed as a vindictive move, we lost.
I am not saying Palin == Kingsolver.
I am saying that Kingsolver discusses her family raising turkeys from chick to adult for food, and the killing of the turkeys. She advocates free range feeding, and maybe these are free range birds. The Triple-D Farm & Hatchery web page says:
She encourages supporting local farmers, and this is a local farm. In some sense, she discusses pardoning of a turkey, but she does it in a Darwinian way.
If you are objecting to the raising and killing of turkey for food, then I hope you’re consistent in your morality, that’s all I’m saying. It isn’t bad when Palin supports it and good when Kingsolver supports it. It is what it is. Kingsolver isn’t really happy about the killing of the birds, but she accepts it as part of a sustainable lifestyle. Kingsolver prefers the word harvesting, by the way.
