Here’s some photos from tonight’s march in San Francisco for civil rights. The marchers began at Civic Center, marched up Market Street to Castro, then down Castro and 18th Streets to Dolores Park, where there were speakers and music.
Based on the helicopters overhead at 10:30pm Friday night, I’d say there are still some goings-on in the neighborhood. Many more photos and video at SFist.
The fiance, who works on Market Street, took these pictures with his cellphone at about 6pm when the march arrived in the Castro. Looking across Market Street from his work; it’s a little blurry:
Here’s another one, looking down Market Street. The marchers filled more than half the street and took about 45 minutes to march by.
Here’s the last one, looking across Market at 16th Street; it’s also a little blurry, I’m afraid.
The crowd’s been estimated by local media in the thousands, and organizing tools like Yelp and Facebook are credited by newscasters as swelling the crowd "instantly" from one hundred to several thousand. Additionally, civil marriage rights marched in Long Beach as well as at Mormon HQ Temple in Salt Lake City. Both crowds were also estimated in the thousands.
No violence has been reported.
UPDATE: Here’s a great YouTube from digidavid of the march. I love it when he says, "This looks like a civil rights march." Because it does.

Yay! Does my spirit a world of good to know others are marching tonight in a place I have lived, loved, laughed, danced and marched over many years.
Thank you, Teddy and fiance.
Thank you, ES, are folks getting organized to march in Arkansas?
because it is.
thank you teddy.
I see others are as angry as I am. Good.
Yes, we are all pissed.
I couldn’t go march because the organizers wanted it to be peaceful. I was not sure I could comply.
Thank you selise, it is indeed.
Thank you Teddy, and San Francisco, and all the other cities that are joining in!
Thanks Teddy, I can tell you there are MANY people here in NJ who are really pissed about this.
It’s going to be interesting to see what happens here now that the election is over. Corzine said he wanted to hold off on the marriage thing so it wouldn’t influence the Presidential election.
If something came out of this on election day, it’s emboldened a lot of straight people around here about this denial of rights in the name of religious hate and intolerance has to end.
