Create a subcommittee on Education and put him in the basement doing a study on the statistics of the No Child Left Behind program.

If you go to the website Progressive Punch as cited, you see that in the Education and Housing categories, Lieberman was Tied (that’s the little T next to his ranking) with other senators who voted the progressive voting positions. On none of them was he ”More” progressive. There were 14 broad categories, and on 12 of them he didn’t vote the progessive positions.

When the phone rang from the White House, Joe would hear and obey.

I’ll stipulate that Joe is an S.O.B., especially when it concerns the War, and foreign policy in general.

But on Education, he was more progressive than any other senator, voting the progressive way on 23/23 roll calls.

He was also the most progressive on Housing issues, voting the progressive way on 3/3 critical roll calls.

Currently, Sen. Kennedy is chair of the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions, and he should keep that position as long as he wants to. There is no subcommittee on Education, although the Chair and Ranking Member could create one.

Housing jurisdiction is in the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs, with Chris Dodd as chair. There is a subcommittee on Housing, Transportation, and Community Development, but Schumer is the chair of that one.

So I don’t know the answer, but I’ll bet we get better mileage out of acknowledging Joe for what he does right, and giving him assignments accordingly, than for kicking his a** around Town about his major sins.

And, BTW, did you know that during this last Congress, Lieberman’s Progressive Score was higher than Obama’s? (by a sliver).

I know it sounds like I’m defending Lieberman, who I think is a ratfink. I do so only because I don’t like the hate speech and invective I see about him. But then, I talk that way about Nancy Pelosi…..

Take away his chairmanship. Give him some meansingless and humiliating subcommittee. Let him stew there as a disgraced has-been and let the Dems and GOP kick him around at their pleasure. That is better than kicking him out of the caucus.

Title: Reid, Lieberman To Continue Mulling Options

OMG, the battle of two champion mullers. Yep, you two get right onto it, mulling your options. A battle for the ages.

I don’t think you know much about politics, and certainly that you don’t understand Obama. And I don’t know why you dragged Katrina into this when it has nothing to do with anything that I wrote.

Please remember that we are a few votes short of the 60 needed to stop Republican filibusters, and Joe’s vote could be the deciding vote on close issues.

No one should just “give” Joe a chairmanship. But it is good politics for us to give him a chairmanship on something he has good progressive credentials about, in exchange for a promise to vote with the Democratic caucus when 60 votes are needed. That’s a win-win for us.
