Looks like the Atkins Brothers hit a nerve.
The ProtectMarriage.com- Yes on 8 campaign today condemned as "bigoted and intolerant" a new ‘No on Proposition 8′ television commercial scheduled to run on TV stations tomorrow and demanded that No on 8 campaign leaders, including US Senator Dianne Feinstein, San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom and California Schools Superintendent Jack O’Connell publicly denounce the ad and urge television stations to refuse to run it.
The faux-outrage meter has gone to 11.
"This ad reaches new lows of religious bigotry and intolerance," said Yes on 8 Chairman Ron Prentice. "We hope that the leadership of the No on 8 campaign – including Senator Feinstein, Mayor Newsom and Superintendent O’Connell — as well as all Californians regardless of their position on Proposition 8, will not only condemn the ad but join us in asking television stations to refuse to air it. After all, the No on 8 campaign has been running their own television commercials saying we must all oppose discrimination and intolerance whenever we see it. The bigotry this ad shows to members of the LDS church demands action now."
Will California’s television stations buckle under the pressure? YES Campaign Manager Frank Schubert issued this statement:
This is a blatant display of religious bigotry that has no place in political discourse. We urge Equality for All, Senator Feinstein, Superintendent O’Connell and the No on 8 Campaign to immediately denounce this commercial and join us in urging television stations to refuse to air it. After all, we must always oppose discrimination and intolerance whenever we see it.
Indeed. Let’s all oppose discrimination and intolerance whenever we see it.
Vote NO on Prop 8 today.

Dugg right here if you’d care to join me!
Thank you
A theocracy scares me more than nuclear war, communism, socialism and anarchy combined. The only thing that scares me more is a W coup between now and inauguration day.
So the Mormons get to be intolerant of Gays, but nobody can call the Mormons intolerant of Gays because any criticism of the Mormons means that you are an antireligious bigot.
The Mormons are taking notes from the NeoCon playbook.
dugg.
great commercial.
and i hate commercials. *g*
The ad is the best one of the entire last 2 years. Stark and righteous. NO on 8 !
Hey Teddy, morning doggies.
Wanted to kudos you for the amazing coverage you’ve given Prop 8. They were fascinating diaries, always engaging reads.
Here’s hoping for some sanity to return to Washington, and a victory for the gay community.
Dugg Teddy — I think I saw something last night(dailykos? TPM? Rawstory? don’t know) where someone had gotten ahold of memos from Mormon management from back in 1997 – about doing this sort of Prop in HI and CA. The LDS has been working on this for ten years people.
Great ad. Zane Grey is whoopin’ and hollerin’ now.
For those unfamiliar, Grey had a great dislike for the Mormons.
And someone needs to contact the Separation of Church and State organization and start working on complaints to remove the LDS church tax exempt status…. Tax them if they are going to go all political AND collect it back to 1997……. Then they won’t have 20 million to fund taking rights away …..
((( Teddy )))
It’s time California and the rest of America jumped into the 21st Century
Excellent idea katymine !
This has to be the next step !
Still VERY light turnout at the polling place next door.
good.

Citizen Teddy Partridge and the Firepup Freedom Fighters:
This ad should run in every state in the union, it would put an end to theocratic politics…
Dearest Teddy,
Our family’s joy and exhuberance on this day is tempered by the spectre of Prop H8te
I have personally seen this evil up close – dark and strong enough to keep a parent away from their dying child’s deathbed – this must all end tonight
They have a legal department that does just that…… they will take depositions and file the complaints. They do all the legal work BUT the citizen HAS to be the complainant………
Friends just did it here about a church that was showing movies after telling members that the movie would show them about what an Obama Presidency would be about….. It was a gory movie about abortion and fetus….
Yea, if it were that simple.
Teddy – we need to keep the pressure on all day.
If there are early returns that hand the win to Senator Obama, are we not concerned about less enthusiastic Obama/Democratic/NO on 8 voters to get out and, you know, vote?
If they do that, I think they should consider the same action for the Catholic church. Or at least the ones that have Bishops coming out admonishing legislators that if they vote in a certain way, communion will be withheld.
If they want to be political, and inflict their morality on others, they need to pay the price. This is Caesar’s (the laws); that is God’s (individual interpretation of the commandments).
Sorry, I think this ad jumped the shark. Intolerance exists in many forms.
New post up by Jane: “Let The Right-Wing Lies Begin!”
If the Mormons seriously want to protect marriage in California, will they now start a campaign to repeal the liberal divorce laws signed into law by St. Reagan when he was governor? More marriages end from divorce than from anything else.
I am guessing that they won’t.
We could solve our national debt if we started taxing some of these billionaire churches……. And I totally agree…..
yank their tax exempt status and let them deal with their policies….. If they want to electioneer from pulpit then they pay the consequences….
could you explain why you think the ad is intolerant? thanks.
Citizen karnak12:
“Sorry, I think this ad jumped the shark. Intolerance exists in many forms.”
Yes intolerance exists in many forms and this ad is NOT one of ‘em…this kinda bullshit is what has got us ta where we are with the breakdown of the firewall between church and state.
Is that like IRONY or something?
So an ad showing them actually campaigning to take away rights…is doing what to them?
This goes along with the IRONY of 1 man + 1 women… umm funny since last I checked my history it was 1 man + 3 women + 2 pre-teen girls for Mormans.
Wow! I live in CA and have not yet seen this commercial, but I think it is superb (Jeremiah Wright was EVERYWHERE last night, though!).
This echoes a conversation I had yesterday in which I suggested that the Mormons wouldn’t be so keen on having a non-”Christian” religious viewpoint push a ballot measure that would in any way undermine the Mormon lifestyle. No, that would be outrageous. It’s unthinkable…
These religious folks certainly do have a difficult time thinking outside their own box.
How about Ted Stevens having a rally at his church and not wanting to answer questions for the reporter there to invterview him.
The reporter was desecrating the church – yet Teddy the convicted felon was changing money on stage.
Perhaps we can all go purple and stop governement pensions and church tax breaks at the same time!
What?! Intolerance of intolerance??? How dare you! /s
here it is Toby.
Documents from the Mormon church on smoking gun as posted on a dkos diary. hekebolos.
As my husband told me a couple of days ago, he feels a bit uncomfortable about the topic of homosexuality, but strongly feels that government has no right to tell people what to do in their private lives if they aren’t hurting others.
I know a bunch of Mormons because of my genealogy hobby. They would be very concerned about this ad, because it would make the effort of “elders” (their term for the young missionaries you see portrayed in the ad) much harder. Although I like the folks I see while doing family history research and appreciate their commitment to their faith, I don’t think their church should be leading this charge. I get angry knowing that if one member of a gay couple becomes incapacitated, the other partner could and has been forced out of the picture totally. This is just wrong in my view.
Not to worry, Little Georgie is so sick of playing President he’s ready to go home last month. However, you should be afraid of a Cheney coup. The Big Dick doesn’t seem ready to turn the reigns of power over to anybody, and he has a disgusting amount of dirty tricks up his sleeve.
Don’t worry about Little Georgie — Fear The Big Dick!
Taking notes from the Neocon notebook? They wrote it!
If California didn’t have the ridiculous initiative system, then Prop 8 would have never happened. People outside of California exploited the system and caused this mess. The only Prop I want to see on a ballot in California is the one that obliterates the intiatives.
I’m over it. Big time.
Teddy,
Thanks for all your work getting the word out.
I was robo-called just five minutes ago on MY CELL PHONE (which is not listed anywhere). Yes on 8 was using Barack Obama’s words, in his voice talking about his definition of marriage as one man and one woman. Using Obama for their campaign and somehow finding cell phone numbers??? What gives?
It’s really disgusting.
Vote NO ON 8 !!!
A theocrasy would be a terrible society to live in. Especially here, when out country was founded on the belif of separation of church and state. It is wrong for someone to come in, especially those who are supposed to be “spreading the love of God”, and tell people how or how not to live there lives.

Last night, something strange happened — I got a robo-call from a right-wing place. This election season, I have gotten MANY friendly stranger calls, but all from Democrats or non-partisan proposition people. (Literally, about 100, over 3 weeks.) But last night was different — I got a robo-call from the Yes on 8 freaks. And it was a very strange call.
A woman’s voice said, “Here is Barack Obama.” Then Obama’s voice was saying you should be against gay marriage — for about 6 seconds. Then, there was static. Literally, it was like that PeeWee Herman movie where he acted like the line was static, so he couldn’t hear the unwanted caller. Then, Barack’s voice was back, saying “Thank you for doing this” or something like that.
It was so obvious (to me) that it was a fake. I was pretty pissed, and slammed down the phone. I called my daughter and told her about it. She said she had only received friendly calls. Then — she called back, screaming that she has received the same weird robo-call I had. Then, I got the sound that another call was coming in, I hung up with my daughter, and they were back. Same anti-8 call. Then, my daughter called me and said they had just called her, too. I looked at their Caller ID and, sure enough, it was 1-234-567-8900. This shouldn’t be allowed. I hear it is NOT allowed, but that nothing is ever investigated.
Long time lurker – 1st time poster.. welcome to me! This must be one of the best ads I’ve ever seen.. no wonder they don’t like it.. and the less they like it, the more accurate it must be, eh?
David
With that “logic” you must be smart!
A logic lesson for you: “the less they like it, the more accurate it must be.”
So, if I say Jesus is a myth, there is no God .. if you don’t like that, it MUST be true?
Right?
I’ll be voting later. It’s going to be NO on 8 for Herb and Harry – Herb used to be my ‘cubie’; they got married in July.
