Ben Smith reports that this robocall is running in Pennsylvania:
Barack Obama. His pastor preached God damn America. His aunt is living in America illegally. This illegal alien aunt is living in public housing. Barack Obama accepted illegal campaign contributions from his illegal alien aunt. Call Barack Obama at 202-224-2854 and tell him you are against illegal immigration. This message was paid for by NewModelsUSA.org and is not authorized by any candidate or candidate committee, 866-283-3421.
"NewsModelsUSA" is not registered with the FEC, the contact email on the website bounces back, and the site — owned by The Winston Group, a Republican consulting firm — isn’t returning calls. The National Republican Trust PAC says they have nothing to do with it.
Might as well say "paid for by not John McCain, no no no, he wouldn’t talk about Wright in the final days."
Uh-huh.

Emphasis is mine.
David Winston, President
David H. Winston is President and founder of The Winston Group. His unique experience has provided him with a multifaceted view of national politics and public policy unmatched by other political consultants. Aside from his extensive work with political campaigns, Winston has also served as senior leadership staff in Congress and as a senior fellow to a prominent Washington , DC think tank. This unusual combination of political and policy experience has helped shape the manner in which Winston approaches problem solving, which has led to his emergence as one of the most trusted political and policy consultants in Washington, DC.
During his four year tenure working with former House Republican Conference Chair JC Watts, 34 million more Americans developed a favorable view of House Republicans, with their approval numbers rising from 36% in 1998 to 53% in 2002.
Preceding that, he was the Director of Planning for the Speaker of the House, where he oversaw initiatives ranging from education, taxes, Social Security, health care, and technology, to the 21st Century Congress. He was also a member of the federal web-based Education Commission.
Additionally, Winston was a Senior Fellow at the Heritage Foundation, one of the leading conservative public policy think tanks in the country. There he was involved in writing policy papers on topics such as health care, tax policy and agricultural issues.
On an international level, the European Ideas Network, a public policy think tank that works with politicians and strategists from the center-right parties of the European Parliament, brought Winston’s insight and political experience to Europe when they asked him to join their Demographics Task Force. He has also served the EIN as guest lecturer on Trans-Atlantic issues such as Euro-American relations. Other international experience includes conducting public opinion and market research in various foreign nations, including Canada, Russia, Ukraine, Estonia, Lithuania, Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan.
Winston was an adjunct Professor at the Communications College at American University and has lectured at MIT, Georgetown, William and Mary, George Washington University and the National War College. He also teaches campaign strategy at the Campaign Management Institute at American University.
Winston is a columnist for the Capitol Hill newspaper Roll Call, and was the former polling editor for PollTrack of PoliticsNow, the political website for ABC News, Washington Post, and National Journal. He appears frequently on a variety of national and cable news programs, and has written for a variety of publications including the International Wall Street Journal, the Brookings Review, the Brown Journal of World Affairs and The Washington Post. He has done election analysis for Voter News Service and CBS News.
He was a contributor to two recently published books – “Digital Democracy and the New Age of Reason” in Democracy and the New Media ed. Henry Jenkins and David Thorburn; assoc. ed Brad Sewall (Cambridge: MIT Press, 2003) 133-142, and “Flying Colors: Americans after September 11″ in United We Serve: National Service and the Future of Citizenship ed. EJ Dionne Jr., Kayla Meltzer Drogosz, and Robert E. Litan (Washington: Brookings Institution Press, 2003) 90-93.
Winston served as Chief Information Officer for the Republican National Committee under four chairmen, beginning with the late Lee Atwater.
He is married to Chriss Winston, the first and only woman to head the Office of Speechwriting for a President of the United States, under George Bush Sr. He has one son, Ian.
Myra Miller, Senior Vice President
Miller joined the Winston Group in February 2001. Prior to joining the Winston Group, she served as Political Director for the Alabama Republican Party. During her tenure at the Alabama Republican Party, Republicans made record gains, winning ten out of eleven statewide races as well as many first-time victories at the district and county levels.
Miller received a Masters degree in International Politics from the University of Cambridge. She studied at Cambridge as a British Foreign Office Chevening Scholar where she was actively involved with the Centre of International Studies, serving on university delegations to foreign governments and international policy groups.
Kristen Soltis, Director of Policy Research
Kristen Soltis joined the Winston Group in May 2005. Soltis’ political experience includes interning with the National Republican Congressional Committee’s Finance Department and working with a Virginia House of Delegates race. She has also worked with the Citizen’s Access Project, a venture run through the University of Florida’s College of Journalism and Communications, which seeks to educate the public on freedom of information to local government information across the country.
Soltis received her Bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Florida in December 2005, where she participated in the University Scholars Program, conducting extensive research on campaign finance reform and congressional politics. She is currently pursuing her masters degree in political science at Johns Hopkins University.

like robocalls I suppose, but a lot nicer and less partisan.
I am confused, kos McCain schedule doesn’t have McCain in AZ….. Heard on AP radio news that McCain will be campaigning in Prescott AZ ….. today….. the quote from McCain … “its kind of traditional and historic as this is where Goldwater always finished his campaigns”
Ah Oh….. Goldwater didn’t do so well in 1964….. maybe that wasn’t wise to evoke that elephant……
AND since most of the Goldwater kids & grand kids endorsed Obama…
beautiful. thank you again for your work. sadly, it will still be needed on wednesday.
my #9 was in reply to freewayblogger’s #7
Washington Post has an article about staying negative and mentions the Wright ad.
McCain’s team still saying he can’t referee “every” ad they put out.
How come? Imagine him trying to referee the whole world.
Sounds like Lou Dobbs has another gig.
i was thinking, how in his twilight years,he lives like FAUST or DORIAN GRAY
hideous,ignominious cretin

5 years of my admiration and love…peace
caller id s your friend
Well, it’s obvious that McCain is not vetting every ad that is done – even though his name is at the end of it – because he promised to run a clean campaign, right? So, either he’s a liar…or his staff is lying to him..about everything /s

Citizen Hamsher and the Firepup Freedom Fighters:
“Might as well say “paid for by not John McCain…’”
Butcha know that the race is tightening up!! Mrs. Norske and I have been out amongst ‘em canvasing GOTV on turf in a couple a burgs in our district and I wanna tell ya, I first did this stuff out in California (before I could vote) for John Tunney and I’ve canvassed variously ever since 1972 and I have NEVER heard workin’ class and middle class workin people so angry AND energized. On Saturday and Sunday, of the folks that were home over half had already voted and many of those who weren’t already workin phone banks or canvasin’ were gunna make sure their neighbors got ta the polls. But more importantly, the anger many folks are feelin is fueled by folks bein’ sick and tired of bein’ manipulated by fear…the economic crash has jest turned the ongoin’ fear into anger and our brothers and sisters aren’t stupid.
There is simply no way that Crazy John McCain ken win this election unless it is stolen in the kleig lights of national television…and trust me, Sister Hamsher, there will be folks in the streets everywhere if that happenes.
KEEP THE FAITH AND PASS THE AMMUNITION, THIS BATTLE IS NOT OVER BUT THE NEXT ONE IS WAITIN’ FOR US!!!
this rocks!!! and so do you

(((sadly)))
I hope all have had peaceful rest as we have a lot to do today and tomorrow
I have gotten a ton of nasty robo calls here. Checked reverse look up and most originated from Herndon VA. Is that where McShame’s office is?
Look McCain will deny it and unless we get a court to look at it he will get away with it, unless we just assume that McCain is behind it and demand that he prove otherwise or denounce the calls publicly.
The GOP has made their bones with the swift boaters so McCain can deny try and prove he has no connection to the calls all he wants it won’t work.
Even honest McCain supporters will assume the calls are from him.
However McCain can’t denounce the calls without pissing off his racist base.
But if we were to make a big enough issue of it next election we can force the GOP to choose between racists and independent voters horrified to be identified as racists.
I was robo-called last night by McCain. The message was rather benign. It
questioned Obama’s readiness to lead our country. What was odd about it is that I live in Iowa. The Iowa Poll, the gold standard of polls in Iowa and the one that predicted the caucus results right on the money, has Obama up 17 points. You would think they would have better places to spend their money.
Righty-o, Felix!
I’m off to work. Will check in later. Can’t imagine much is going to Change today, though. Just more of the same talking heads.
I’m with Raven. It don’t mean nothin’.
Glad I don’t live in a swing state (I live in the bastion of hell aka California) but my heart goes out to you pups that are being bombarded by these things.
OT:
I like to hear about more of this for the rest of the McCain
redSwing state blitz:Small Crowd Greets McCain in Tampa.
I don’t think we should be waiting for the next election. I think this should start Wednesday. Additionally wednesday a new campaign should start to discredit the MSM.
I agree. That seems like the most insidious part of the message. The Rev. Wright thing has been dealt with and its resurrection isn’t a big surprise. Raising the Lew Dobbs theme for xenophobes, implying that only Obama would oppose their views, is nasty. Hopefully, only those who would have already followed Joe the Plumber into McCain’s camp will swallow it.
New Stirling Newberry post up: 60 Seats in the Senate: The Road is Through the South
Interesting why is McCain wasting money in Blue states he has no chance of wining? Ad revenue’s for GOP media in red states? Campaign ties to GOP media in blue states?
Someone in the McCain campaign owns a robo call company?
You are correct lets hammer the Fools!
This is what it feels like when Americans decide to take their country back!
You serious? Or hyperbole, Norske? Because at this point I cannot see the “rice tightening” and “battleground states” bile from the MSM as anything but pre-emptive cover for another grand theft, and I cannot figure out what anybody intends to do about it.
Citizen foothillsmike:
Let’s not waste precious energy on campaigns focused on the amorphous corporate media…let’s let the new information technology, the economy and folks like Olbermann and Maddow take care of the fascist media while we engage with our brothers and sisters through actions with Accountability Now, MoveOn and our local Democratic Party…it ain’t sexy and it takes time we ain’t got but “yes we can” beat fascism and fear with democracy and hope and a whole lotta sweat!
After 40 years as a card-carrying Republican, I’ve decided to vote for Obama. I am a fiscal conservative and a social moderate. The party has taken a wrong turn, toward divisiveness and incompetence and fiscal irresponsibility.
Under the current leadership, the size of the federal government has increased and the national debt has doubled. In addition to budget deficits we have off-book spending to finance the war. They’re trying to demonize Obama as tax-and-spend, but borrow-and-spend is even worse in my book.
I think it is pretty clear that total deregulation has failed in every case. The free market system is an appealing ideal, but it has led to unchecked greed and has ruined the economy.
I strongly supported the war in Afghanistan. Going after Bin-Laden in his cave is the right thing to do. Invading Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11 or Al-Qaida. Those with dissenting opinions were ignored and smeared. (e.g. Valerie Plame)
To me, true conservatism means less government intervention in our lives. The Republican Party is toward ever more intervention, from wiretaps to Terry Schaivo. Many of these are hot-button issues meant to capture single issue voters. This has led to winning elections but the abandonment of true conservative values.
There is no evidence that trickle-down economics and tax cuts for the wealthy have created jobs or helped grow the economy. On the contrary, history shows little correlation between tax rates and job creation. Under current party leadership, the middle class has jobs and experienced a decline in real income.
John McCain continues to advocate tax cuts for the wealthy, deregulation, and an indefinite continuation of the war in Iraq. I think we have pretty clear evidence that those policies are wrong. It’s definitely not working for me. I’m voting for Obama
Citizen behindthefall:
I have never been more serious in all my life, Citizen behind the fall, the muscles of democracy are bein excercised like they haven’t been since 1968 and if this thing is stolen the war will be home for everyone!
sadly, it’s going to be a while. but it is on my list – and i appreciate the reminder. thanks!
You and I and our compatriots use the new information technology, watch Olberman and Maddow etc. The low information types do not. They get their info from MSM, Rush, and the fundies.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/…..40412.html
if a candidate has a rally and no one is around to hear it….. ?
We are experiencing what I think is known as a silent and bloodless coup!
hello dearest one…soon the long international nightmare will be over
Citizen foothillsmike:
Be careful Citizen, our democracy has not been stolen by “the low information types” it has been wrecked by high information types who laid down and did nuthin’ as long as their incomes and livelyhoods were adequate…no dear friend, don’t scapegoat the ignorant and the powerless, the great majority of us white middle class folks who kept silent or pretended to accept “bipartisanship” as an excuse for cavin in to blackmail and fear are responsible for the rise of fascism in our country.
Bravo! I agree!
Let’s everyone call/contact David Winston and tell him what a low rent maggot he is. Public street in front of his house? Oughta picket it. Appearing on call-in shows? Start dialing. Call the Heritage Foundation…ask for Dave… you get the idea.
Pull these worms out into the sunshine and make ‘em own their bigotry and bile.
We hope that it willsoon be over. Nothing is for certain until the election is certified, then I will breathe *g*
Citizen Ann in AZ:
No dear Sister Ann, I think the coup has been ongoin’ since 1980 and it certainly has not been “bloodless” unless you don’t count the pain of homelessness, poverty, hunger and police violence in our communities and in our little wars of agression. No the coup is comin up against the muscle of the people…I don’t think the oligarchy has the stones ta try and hold power under these circumstances with force…after all, they’ve already got all the money, if they try a military solution and fail they’re toast…no Sister Ann they’re gunna retire to their gated compounds and wait for their next opportunity.
should read: then I can breathe
Much of the battle is a numbers game. The dissemination of information to the majority of those voters must cease to be slanted, The visuals from NO impacted the consciousness of many. The visuals of Galveston are non- existent. Who saw what was happening at the conventions besides us. Additionally low information types has very little to do with class. Our democracy must be regained but victory can only be acheived by changing the perceptions.
How much does it cost for a billboard close to his home.
How much of this stuff can be re-examined after the election win and litigated under the FEC? How far back in priority? This is important to the electorate…a back seat, of course, there is serious 2004 Ohio-like election crime in this election.
The FEC is an impotent farce.
Very well written, thanks.
