A mercenary firm in Oregon offered to provide "security" on election day in case voters "get out of control," Danger Room reports:
CIA-linked private military contractor Evergreen Defense & Security Services offered to post sentries at Oregon election offices on Tuesday, "detaining troublemakers" and making sure voters "do not get out of control."
In an e-mail to local election supervisors, obtained by the McMinnville, Oregon News Register, Evergreen president Tom Wiggins said he "recognized the potential conflict" that could occur on November 4th. "Never has there been a more heated battle in the race for president."
The company, he said, ‘proposes to post sentries at each voting center on November 4th to assure that disputes amongst citizens do not get out of control. All guards will be unarmed, but capable of stopping any violence that may occur and detaining troublemakers until law enforcement arrives.’
Note that Oregon votes by mail.

About FDL Action
Not lost on me that Oregon votes by mail so WTF? I can imagine the scenarios as to why they are offering their services (and none have anything to do with democracy).
I am dog tired but damn if this doesn’t fire me up. After my shift here at the food bank, I am off to the HQ to make some calls on behalf of O, No on prop 8, Yes on prop 2, etc.
I can sleep Wednesday
Aha, those post offices will be protected against the pieces of mail fighting with each other.
“Move over, or I’ll show you my corner”…
“Get out of here, or you’ll get a paper cut you won’t forget”
“That mail handler is peering at me”
“You touched me”
“Get off me”
and so on. Clearly a pressing need for private security. tehy just take away all the suspicious mail, and protect us from it.
Holy crap, I almost worked for Evergreen Aviation in McMinnville! So glad I never got in too deep with ‘em.
WTF?
Is this Teh Stoopid, or something much more sinister?
Make sure you got the right postage on that ballot you are carrying or you can’t enter the post office Mein Herr!!
Here is a Digg for ya to use your shovels on Pups!! But do watch out for the guards they ARE WATCHING you to make sure you do your Digging correctly…or is that voting??
Lindsay – If Oregon votes by mail, what can Evergreen possibly do?
The McVain campaign is in its last throes.
Note that Oregon votes by mail.
wow. not the sharpest tools in the shed, eh?
This is a subject that requires more questions and most ov’em I couldn’t even guess at, answers too. Should we hire a private security firm for the questions and answers? Sorry if I seem flippant…I try funny when I get worried.
go back to sleep, your government is on control.
LOL.
In a recession, some folks will try anything to get work!
Trouble Makers in Oregon? Maybe after the election if the vote is stolen again.
Silliest thing I’ve ever heard.
We do vote by mail here in Oregon (hurray!), but it’s still possible to drop the ballots off at the elections office–and maybe get into a fight or two there. Ya never know!
Does the McCain campaign know that Oregon votes by mail?
Isn’t there enough work for Mercs in Iraq?
These clowns give mercs a bad name.
There is no cure for stupidity.
Nice to know there are some right wing fooktardians right down the road.
BT post up. Klingons are involved.
Well someone has to save us from Oregon voters.
Last time I was in downtown Portland a few years ago girl just walked right up to me and gave me a flower:)
Does the McCain campaign know that Oregon votes by mail?
Is Mark Penn working for McDummy now?
I lived in Corvallis and Imnaha during the late 70s. Totally hippie state in those days.
Many Oregonians drop their ballots off at the designated drop areas on Tuesday if they do not mail them in time.
It’s obvious that no one at Evergreen ever votes, or needs to, evidently. I guess they get their contracts no matter who is in office. Paid bullies. I wonder if their employees have a union. Not.
I think Evergreen is feeling the economic pinch, like everyone else. It seems they floated a business proposal to the authorities and got turned down, perhaps because the authorities remembered that Oregon votes through the post.
The subtext of the message was probably an offer to control crowds in the event of all that rioting the wingnuts are darkly/hopefully predicting.
Mercenaries assigned to election officials. What could possibly go wrong?
Agents provocateur anyone?
