I said elsewhere, the way that Sen. Obama narrated that piece was brilliant.

He was very convincing and we saw a nice slice of America with Obama as the voice of America.

CT…Having been homeless for a good portion of my life on and off. I have developed a set of strategies and a few skills. I helps to have a plan B,  If you have and RV or PU with shell you can sleep safe and dry. Reserve a storage for your belongings no matter what size leave a little space for a desk so you can blog. If your laptop set up for WiFi then there are a lot of coffee shops you can hang. The public library is a safe productive place. A cell phone is a must if not some homeless shelters or day centers have phones. Or get a payphone card.
There visit friends and relatives for weekly showers. Wife will want more often. Treat yourself to a cheap motel occassionally. There are parks most of which close at sunset but you can book campgrounds. If worse comes to worse. Check with the police to see where the places you won’t be welcome. If you look affluent that helps. Being a paratrooper you know how to be squared away on bivouac. Most of the homeless have mental illnesses so may not fit in. Having a dog is a good early warning of trouble.
Since you have a very enviable job you should’nt have trouble finding some housing as you both have incomes. There are a lot of crack addicts as well which can make homelessness dangerous. So I would line up secondary housing right away so you can keep being a productive citizen. You should not be homeless. You will find rents are higher as foreclosures have added pressure to the rental housing stock. More demand. You can also volunteer to work shifts at homeless shelters earn money and sleeping quarters but be separated from you wife. Sounds bad? it is.

Someone had an anecdotal story about a bar waiting for the World Series that became hushed for the spot and then broke out into applause after.
