The Hill reports Joe Lieberman’s days as chair of the powerful Homeland Security Committee may be numbered as Senate Democrats plan a massive reshuffle in the event of an Obama victory and significant Democratic Senate pick ups. Daniel Akaka of Hawaii would probably take over from Lieberman as chair of the Homeland Security Committee.
Lieberman probably won’t get kicked out of the Democratic caucus all together, a Democratic source told The Hill.

Lieberman is a lame duck.
Don’t let the door hit you on the behind, Joe.
Ciao Joe, your only accomplishment on Homeland Security was covering for the Bushies.
I got all tingly about this when I saw something from The Hill late monday night about Reid “retiring” Senator Byrd – is it weally, weally, twue ?
Shalom and Amen !
Did Joe ever have a meeting on this at all? He certainly never talked about it. Goodbye, Short Ride.
May the ghosts of New Orleans’ dead haunt his every living moment.
Just be careful though – Byrd’s replacement will likely by Toobz Ted’s BFF Inouye, who at 83, isn’t all that much of an improvement
My contempt for Joe Lieberman will never subside, but this news does help ease the bile in the pit of my stomach.
Does Connecticut have a recall procedure? If not it should implement one. Call it the Lieberman Law!
This is good!
Amen. I’m grateful for whatever can be done to stop the damage that Lieberman has brought on this country. In my world, it may stop the hemorrhaging of money that each new IT security requirement (mandated by DHS, and overseen by Homeland Security and Government Affairs) causes Federal agencies — more often than not, to the companies that Haddasah Lieberman represents as a lobbyist.
no public humiliation could be too harsh for sanctimonious Joe.
Hopefully they will peel his chairmanship from him very slowly, and against the grain of the hairs.
Well, that brings up the broader question of how to turn over the “leadership” of the Democratic party from the current crop of codgers to some people with a spine and some progressive values…
hey, nice turn of a phrase!
Joe’s really going to be between a rock and a hard place – probably his inclination would be to become a Repub in a snit, but if he does he’s with the party not only completely out of power but disgraced. As a Dem he’s a weasely nobody. I love it!
Old Deputy Dawg Joe is in the Dawg house.
He needs to be chained to it permanently.
Good. Finally! It should have been done long ago.
Looking at the fed budget if we downsized the Dept of Def we could afford Social Security.

Recall is not valid for “federal officers,” i.e., Senators and Representatives, even for those states who have the provision in the state constitution. Which Connecticut does not have.
Once a Senator or Representative has been seated, they are there until the next election unless expelled by a vote of their peers. Unsure who the last Senator to be expelled was. The last Representative to be expelled was James Traficant, who was booted after being convicted back in ‘02 or so.
The real Joe the Plumber?
oh I know. the tingly part came when I imagined the Majority Leader had plans beyond Senator Byrd’s committee.
OT
CNN reporting that VA is looking for trouble on election day & will have police watching the polls.
Can you spell intimidation? Can you spell instigation?
In many places campaign items such as political shirts, hats and buttons are prohibited. I plan to wear as much blue as possible.
here is how out of touch lieberman is.
he put his name behind a candidate running on his support for the least popular president in history
there is rolling the dice and then there is rolling with lice. (I just made that one up)
You get an attaboy for that one!
I’ve got a job for you, Joe.
Senators are not subject to recall anywhere.
Why not kick him to the curb…throw his GOP ass out of the caucus and let him spend some time in the proverbial desert. Maybe he’ll have some sort of a religious experience about what loyalty to an oath means.
That’s kewl. Thanks for the link.
Good news. The schmuck dug his own grave. Let him go fall in it.
Why on earth should Lieberman not be made to forfeit his “membership” in the Democratic caucus? Because he’s so loyal to them personally, to the sanctity of their causes and the confidentiality of their information. Hardly. He’s shown loyalty to their opposites. Because it would be rude? Coming from the party that has shown a complete inability adequately to protect itself from the menace of Rovism, that would be just their thinking. That’s like not discussing the demise of Atticus Finch’s last client because discussing the details would upset the women folk. Puhleeze.
actually here’s a better one for Joe’s new career: the motorcycles used for picking up dog poop on Paris’ sidewalks.
Joe should be forced to spend the remainder of his Senate career
at Walter Reed, cleaning the bedpans of the people whose lives he has destroyed.
Yeppers, Inouye is not an improvement at all…! The one true blight of Hawaii’s delegation!
Liebermann is right next to Palin on my list of MAJOR REASONS THAT OBAMA CANNOT LOOSE~
asshat from WAY BACK, and gettin worse every day.
good riddance to bad trash!
Hmm, I think I actually like this arrangement if we don’t get 60+ without him. It doesn’t put him publicly at odds with the party, determined to screw over the Dems; if he exits the caucus, it will be by his own choosing. But it communicates “don’t think you’re in a position to bargain for anything.”
At least I hope that’s the reasoning. But I’ve always been an optimist.
Another sad story is Shumer is slated for the Senate Banking Committee and DiFi is slated for Jello Jay’s Intel committee chair… WTF are they thinking?
Ian’s up at the Mothership…
Ian Welsh is up at the Mothership!
McCain: Redistribution Not Okay When Rich Not Getting the Money
Before everybody runs away… is Joe the electrician in the house? Actually any electrician will do. Just a quick ?
Thanks
Oh, yeah… Bet Short-Ride didn’t see that coming, huh?
Too dignified.
see #32 for an improved version.
I’m no sparky, but I’m vaguely familiar with home wiring – what up?
OK – I have a single duplex socket in the middle of a circuit. No other complexities. Two 14-2 single ground lines. Both hot (black) on one side, both common (white) on the other side and both bare grounds on the ground pole. I want to add a second duplex socket right next to the first. I should be able to just jumper straight across, right?
out of my league – sorry! it sounds OK, but then again….
I’d better stick to weekend warrior carpentry and painting…
Sounds OK, works in my little pea-bran, looks good on paper, but just doesn’t do the trick…
Thanks for at least taking the trip downstairs to check
;~P
good luck with that
So poetic.
Once they pull that chair from under Joe, couldn’t someone send him to Paraguay to help clear brush???
