Michelle Obama shared her shopping secrets on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno, after the comedian said in his opening monolog that no one is dressing up like Palin for Halloween because the costume costs $150,000.
Michelle said that she and her husband have a policy of spend their own money on their clothes. Referring to her yellow and brown blouse, yellow skirt and coordinating swing style sweater, the potential First Lady said:
Actually, this is a J. Crew ensemble. You can get some good stuff online. When you don’t have time you have to click online.
She also gracefully declined the opportunity for a cat fight when Leno brought up the Palin family’s pricey R.N.C. sponsored ensembles:
A V.P. pick, it’s like being shot out of a cannon…All of a sudden you’re at the center of attention, and you want to look good…You’re living in your home, minding your business, and all of a sudden you’re on the national stage and everyone’s looking.
Previously Michelle demonstrated her stylish sensibility on The View, appearing in a $148 dollar washable cotton dress from White House/Black Market, a chain retailer found in many malls and shopping centers.
Oh, and yes, Barack’s a romantic guy, though it’s hard to for him to plan a surprise when you’re in the public eye. For their anniversary he bought her flowers, but before he could get home with them, the press had reported everything about the bouquet.
Along with discussing Obama’s grandmother and their family, Michelle also brought up her own experiences on the campaign trail, the need to support military families and the importance of voting.
