If there was any question about whether John McCain’s recent full-throated criticism of the Bush years discomfited George Bush and his wife, press secretary Dana Perino cleared that up today.
President Bush and first lady Laura Bush cast their ballots for Republican candidates John McCain and Sarah Palin today as part of the early voting process in Texas, the White House said.
Press secretary Dana Perino said the ballots will be mailed back to Texas today. The president and first lady will spend the night of the Nov. 4 elections at the White House, she said.
I guess George and Laura Bush know that McCain’s criticisms are just politics:
McCain told the Washington Times this week that Bush and other Republicans "just let things get completely out of hand," and he disparaged Bush for failures on spending, the Iraq war and the economy.
McCain gave the newspaper a partial list: "Spending, the conduct of the war in Iraq for years, growth in the size of government, larger than any time since the Great Society, laying a $10 trillion debt on future generations of America, owing $500 billion to China, obviously, failure to both enforce and modernize the regulatory agencies that were designed for the 1930s and certainly not for the 21st century, failure to address the issue of climate change seriously."
"Those are just some of them," McCain added with a laugh.
And yet you voted with George Bush 95% of the time, and bragged about your support of his policies repeatedly! What’s up with that, McCain?
