It gets tiresome, doesn’t it, having the media see the Netroots as some sort of hidden bogeyman, like the Communists under the bed in the febrile imagination of Joe McCarthy. The netroots are all about sharing, open talk and connectedness – not conspiracy!

My understanding is that Mohammed was illiterate and that his visions of allah were dictated to a scribe. Additionally, written copies of both testaments were rare and written either in Greek or Aramaic.

I’ll hazard a guess on the identity of the “local Democratic consultant”. I was at a Fourth of July function this year and was standing backstage with a mixed crowd of Republican and Democratic public officials and local leaders. I observed well-known Democratic consultant Cathy Allen walk up to Dave Reichert in full kiass-ass mode and announce that she regretted that other members of her party did not support Dave like she did. I nearly threw up. She has a long history of this sort of thing.

Though I find that kind of textual analysis incredibly tedious and boring, someone has to do it.

I have not found out if anyone has done same for Koran. If so, it’s probably a western analyst, as it is my understanding that the Koran is the direct word of Allah (forget that it wasn’t written until about 50-100 years after Mohammed, just like the NT vis-a-vis Christ) and textual analysis is probably regarded as sacriligous.

My hypothesis is that Mohammad heard the OT & NT stories on the ME trade routes that he traveled with his father, and added some unique things to make it a new religion. The bio I read of him (written by a French woman in the 1960s) said that M had monotheism envy, in the sense that he observed that the two major powers of his time: Eastern Roman empire & Persia, had a version of monotheism, and he did em one better.

Them’s the bits and pieces all right. It has always struck me that the complers were not at all bashful about putting two contradictory creation stories side by side- never dreaming that someone would take them as history.
