Great graphic, Jane. I got a panic-stricken call from my 17-year-old daughter a couple of days ago, saying “Dad, please tell me you’re on your way home now! There’s a squirrel in my room!”
I was nearly home at the time and got to her room to find that the deadly beast was a tiny flying squirrel. Cutest thing ever. I managed to get “Rocky” safely chased outside where it escaped our cats and dogs to scamper off.
*sigh* I live in territory where I see more “Palin Power” bumper stickers than I do Obama ones. But then, I also live where they trash your car if you wear Obama sentiments openly.
Jane as we continue to make thousands of phone calls in South eastern Ohio and knock on doors (the Obama campaign has been focused on Independent voters for weeks now). The Independent vote seems to be going three to one for Obama. The sad part is that in Glouster, Trimble, Chauncey, Pomeroy in Meigs County,(these are towns and counties) that some of us have been focused on for years will not change much whether it is Obama or McCain.
The most often repeated refrain that I hear from voters in this region “my life, the wages, the jobs do not change or improve whether it is a Democrat or a Republican in the White House” I have been hearing this over and over again (20 years talking with voters in this regions) and it seems to be basically true.
What is very sad about this region is that not only do these issues not change for many Appalachians these are the folks whose sons and daughters are disproportionately serving in Iraq and Afghanistan
Jane ,why has nobody commented on her damn skirt being in BASIC INSTINCT territory
with Brian Willams …see BlueTex photo downstairs
here she is with Gibson revealing a little less, that and her damn GYPSY BANGLES………….sheesh!
My daughter was finally able to find an Obama sign at a union hall yesterday. She’s is putting it in the window because she said it would be stolen if it was in the yard. She said someone may throw a brick through her window but she wants that sign up. And my 13 year old granddaughter insisted that they had to have that sign up. It’s scary out there.
Palin is the first VP candidate in my lifetime that I have to either play back what she says several times or read a transcript to try to translate her muddled utterances into understandable English.
Her answer to the release of medical documents was mind-boggling. Williams said it was a promise to release her medical records. Methinks not. Although I only heard the answer once, it appears she was saying that she would release her records if it were necessary but since she is healthy, it’s not. And releasing her records would only serve to satisfy the rumor mongerers’ curiosity about Trig.
Bullwinkle: You just leave it to my pal Rock. He’s the brains of the outfit.
General: And what does that make you?
Bullwinkle: What else? The executive.
My daughter experienced this first-hand when she traveled to Logan County for some research last Spring.
She, a fourth grader at the time, stated, “There are really good people here willing to work hard and make a difference. It just seems like no one cares about their concerns and needs.”
Hey, if a fourth grader can get, then the politicians better wake up.
c’mon up to God’s Country and I’ll drive ya around the ‘burbs to see all the Obama and other Dem signs. although I expect our little burgh to go purple at best
New Braunfels was Texas Ground Zero for the Obama GOTV efforts. lotsa dissatisfied, unenergized Republics down your way, you may be in for a pleasant surprise
I keep hoping. Especially about the downticket races.
But my hip hair salon was full of young repigs Tuesday. My guy had to explain to his new apprentice why I said, “Don’t make me look like Sarah Palin.” From the look on her face and the subsequent conversation you could tell she had never met a Democrat. It was like I was a space alien.
Even though they dress up like hipsters, they are still Aggies, which is where the “Palin Power” stuff originates.
That could be accomplished with a ton of hair gel or mousse. They make colored mousse that you could use to get the flames affect. I don’t know where you live, but if can find a theatrical make up shop, they’d have it.
Your young daughter is very perceptive. This situation has been going on a very long time. Hell Bobby Kennedy tried to focus on the situation in Appalachia as well as Jessie Jackson.
The Republicans have been able to capture their votes based on “God, gun, gays and now race”. Many of the old timers (those who had been in unions) seem to get the way Republicans have been able to convince the younger voters in these regions to vote against their own self interest. Let’s hope that is not the case this time. Although I have become convinced the youth vote (have not seen this many young people involved since the mid 70’s) will trump the bigot vote.
yep. yours a much more established, older community. ours is newer – lotsa young families, first time homeowners and we’ve led the state in foreclosures -
put one of these in your front yard, just to piss ‘em off
Go Jane! I needed that laugh! Good thing I had already finished drinking my coffee! Vote Obama-Biden because McCain and Palin want to divide the country. How does the “community Organizer” look now Caribou Barbie?
Vote No on 8 because civil rights are for every American. They are not reserved exclusively for “real Americans” who pass the Bush-Cheney-McCain-Palin rally background checks.
No, not that anything is wrong with that. Let me give my laughter some context.
I was going nuts as to what was the background noise in the interview and was not close enough to the TV to see her wearing the bracelets. The gypsy bangles clued me in.
Finally, the reference reminded me of when I was at the UN Food and Agricultural Organization in Rome. My daily walk included encounters with actual gypsies who would mob an individual with distraction (noisy bracelets and bright scarves) while trying to steal from your purse or belongings. I grew tough to the tactics quickly. So, the reference had a memory associated with attempted commitment of crime against me by the tactic of distraction. The “Bangles” reference just gave me a new context to view Palin in light of my experience.
Just perfect!
R.I.P., Leon…
I think polls are saying Palin’s now -24% on favorability. She’s starting to head into shrub numbers.
And she field dressed him. Poor Leon.
Thanks, Jane, for an early morning funny.
Getting close to Cheney territory.
lol

So which is worse…a $790 Louis Vuitton bag for Sarah’s seven-year old daughter, or the prospect that she bought an illegal knockoff?
Thank dog I live in Hippyland. How do you handle the stupid?
yes im getting real tired of the ignorance and intolerance, here in the deep south

Definitely in Angelica Houston “Grifter” territory these days.

I read her interview and it was pretty obvious she admitted there were things in her record that WOULD satisfy rumor mongers.
that’s an admition plain and simple
I’ve been loving Dwayne Booth aka Mr. Fish for a coupla years. He’s hysterical.
Bullwinkle: You just leave it to my pal Rock. He’s the brains of the outfit.

Hokey smoke – that’s Palin!

Hee hee. As a full time Mommy, I ought to go as “hair on fire”. Hmm, how to accomplish . . .
Do nothing? Come as yourself?
I did the gypsy thing as a kid because my mother had the right wardrobe and jewelry. I looked pretty good, too!
That could be accomplished with a ton of hair gel or mousse. They make colored mousse that you could use to get the flames affect. I don’t know where you live, but if can find a theatrical make up shop, they’d have it.
Not that there’s anything wrong with that!
Maybe add some smoke flavoring for smell enhancement. . .

A little number from Nieman-Marcus, I would wager.

have you decided on any Election Night plans ???
bonus cuteness – a young Halloween Obama
Yum. I add that smoke flavoring to indoor grilled hamburgers sometimes. Be careful, though, you don’t want to attract carnivores.

I saw a bumpersticker with Boris’ face saying: “DO NOT VOTE FOR MOOSE AND SQUIRREL!”
This is hilarious.
