Tipper Gore spoke out for same sex marriage and against Prop 8 last night at the Los Angeles Gay and Lesbian Center’s anniversary dinner:
The Gore family is a part of your family right now…This is a struggle that must be won.
Tipper, on hand to present furniture designers Mitchell Gold* and Bob Williams with the Corporate Vision Award, addressed a packed ballroom at Century Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles. Actress Joely Fisher who hosted the evening, said she supports the gay community and will vote no on 8, though she joked about wondering why gays and lesbians would want to be married.
You’ll fight over who left the toilet seat up. I don’t know how, but you will.
Director Gus Van Sant, whose biopic Milk comes out December 5, was presented with the center’s Board of Directors Award.
*Mitchell Gold is the author of Crisis: 40 Stories Revealing the Personal, Social, and Religious Pain and Trauma of Growing Up Gay in America and will be discussing the book Nov 8 on FDL’s Book Salon.
