Average contribution: Under $100.
The battle now goes to the Senate, where taking 60 seats is going to be critical to keep the Republicans from filibustering any meaningful legislation.
The DCCC has taken out a $15 million loan to "splurge on tight races." Good for them. The electoral landscape may be quite different in 2010, but it’s always easier for incumbents to hold a seat than it is to challenge one.
Chuck Schumer has reportedly asked Obama to guarantee a loan to the DSCC for the stretch. Given that Obama’s ability to create the change he promises very much depends on getting those 60 Senate seats (John Podesta said here last week that passing Employee Free Choice pretty much demands it), he should do it.
Especially if the RNC looks like it’s writing off McCain and switching its resources to shore up Senate races, which might be happening.

Sad to see Rudy lying to Blitzer for McCain’s sake.
McC has thrown just about all the mud he has and nothing sticks. The hole they are standing in is now way over their heads and they need to stop this ugliness right now. But they won’t – McC will finish trashing his own name and won’t have a friend left in the Senate. That’s okay with me.

Cheating will happen. The landslide will be modified by the crooks and liars in the GOP. We will only have a notion of how many actually voted for Obama.
We live in the most powerful third world country on the planet.
I wonder if Johnny McTeleprompter was able to raise enough money to hold a BBQ for the press? Huh. I wonder.
I stand, well sit, corrected
Newt is whining like a fucking baby about this. “Needs to be studied”!
let’s not let up. I send $100 for defeating Bachman and $50 to the Big O yesterday. My first donations in months as I’m pretty broke.
We have the ability to hang the economic losses and subsequent desperation of the last 30 years on the failed conservative agenda. Hopefully, we will win (and govern) in a way that helps those people betrayed by the GOP come home to the ONLY party of the working class.
Trickle Down does not work for working class folks.
Pre-Emptive war & Colonialism does NOT work for working class folks.
Looks like the Dems want to win? Like by using winning strategies? Whooda thunk it?
Couldn’t Obama share a little at this point?
Newt is inferring that Obama has cheated by bringing in 150 million? Who does he think sent the money in? Acorn?
My long time friend, Annie, lives in Alabama and she called me recently all distraught that ‘Barack Obama was born in Kenya and is not a citizen of America’. I said, ‘Who the hell told you that!”. Well, Annie being the most religious of all my friends combined said she heard it on a religious radio program (and she said it was all over the Internet too).
Spit.
I told her that Barack’s FATHER (who shares his freaking name!!!!!) was born in Kenya for crying out loud!
I told her to not listen to anyone but me. LOL Yep, I’ve taken over Annie’s brain until election day. She’ll smarter because of it!
She’s voting for Barack Obama anyways, of course, but she needs lots of coddling that her vote was not for a Kenyan bomb wearing terrorist. Spit. Sucks that the right wingers have put fear in the minds of Americans THROUGH THEIR RELIGIOUS PROGRAMS!
I hope Barack decides to start taxing those churches who are endorsing political candidates from their pulpits. The tax money accrued should go to feed the poor, you know, the people these churches ignore.
Unless we’re replacing Trader Joe L. we might need 61 seats.
Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!! No one tell them that if we pull this off they’ll actually have to enact some stuff — even if the rethugs and wingnuts are yelling at them.
I think he will … in exchange for some “understanding” from Schumer, Reid, Pelosi, etc. …
Thanks Jane.
I had no idea the average was under $100.
digg
Obama is now in a position to do some serious horse trading. Hope he makes them eat dirt for awhile – they were not too helpful to him in the beginning. As Kay says ’spit’.
We need a landslide to win. It’s the only way to prevent the neocons from stealing it.
Hey Pups Digg this Post from Our girl Jane!!
I guess the “LITTLE” people are showing the big money machines that WE have had enough of their buying OUR government and that We want it Back. That way the Government can Work for the People and not for Big Corporations at the expense of the common citizen of the United States!!
hezbolla
More than smacking the Repugs, BO will have to smack the Dem leadership to make them fall in line with his policies.
Raising this much $$$ and winning by a landslide will go a long way in getting Congress to follow a more progressive agenda …
I certainly hope Schumer/DSCC gets some help from Obama. Now is the time to go full throttle on all fronts.
There’s a very strong chance for a Senate pickup in NC. However, Dole has twice as much money left as Hagan and Dole (the 7th richest senator) is now putting her own money into the campaign.
Dole is going really negative (especially in the radio ads) these last two weeks. Cannot bear the thought that Dole might squeak by because of money.
ROFL … Raven !
Jane Hamsher nails the magic number 60+ senate seats to fix America.
Your perception is inspiring. To whom is it most effective to donate? Blue America? Appreciate your youthful wisdom…so perceptive. Ahh!
Funny thing will be the exit polls. In my area, I predict people will lie about who they voted for. They’ll say McCain. Exit polls might well be all screwy…but maybe not. That is my impression, though. People say, “Things can’t go on like this, and that old guy is just like Bush.” But few say “I’m voting for Obama.”
No no, Cynthia McKinney
Mods, both nahant and I dugg this post. I hope the post number reflects all the diggs.
Yes. Maybe the $15,000,000 loan is backed by the Bank of Barack.
And wouldn’t you think Microsoft would put the name Barack in it’s inventory by now so we don’t get the misspelled trigger?
Exit polls won’t mean a thing if the Neocons steal this election … the talking heads will just drone about how these polls are misleading, like in 2004.
Thanks mary and Raven, LOL.
what I find interesting is that the entire panel (Newt,Friedman, georgewill, Gergen, included) are talking in terms of what Obama will do, will need to do, what to fear, etc.
They’ve conceded the presidential election.
Nah, Bill Gates is peeved that BO uses a Mac ! *g*
Wasn’t the Obama camp just complaining last week that they were worried that complacency would effect their fund raising? What was that all about?
One more point: The repubs are going to be busy scouring that list for Arab sounding names. And they’re going to find them since they probably donated a few bucks using such names. What do you want to bet that that will be the story in the next few days?
But he does have “boot camp” installed!
I certainly wish McC would. He’s looking like a corpse and still walking around. Unpleasant to look at.
Geez. You’re learning to think like a gooper.
of to pound the pvement and hit the phones later.
Powell’s manner was sad. He seemed very burdened. A conflicted conservative.
I think they were worried that people wouldn’t bother to vote since it looks like a done deal. I don’t think they have to worry – people will vote this time.

It looks like nahant’s digg is hte one that took, so you get to go Do the second Digg
I’d support a nice obscure diplomatic post for JoeLie, but can’t think of anyplace he’d not stir the pot.
And Hamas.
And the former CEO of Lehmann Brothers, Fuld, worked a dunking contraption at a state fair to raise money for Obama.
Ain’t he they guy that got sucker punched in the fitness center?
Please, just some place far away where JoeLie’s whining could not be heard.
I think Karl is happy with the positive Obama polls, it energizies the base to run out and save America from “that negro” and he knows he can bank on lazy Democrats to skip voting because it’s in the bag…
Never. Give. Up. – SouthernDragon
Done.
Yeppurs. Knocked out cold on the treadmill.
Oh well thats Boo & I doing our part to support the Lake!! But ya know If you haven’t Digg Jane’s Post!
I advocate non- violence but that dood is my new hero …
Yeah, I can’t condone that guy’s actions but Fuld certainly deserved what he got. I said when it happened that that punch was probably the worst Fuld will see for his greed.
Fuld might land in more hot water
Yeppurs. Knocked out cold on the treadmill.
gimme a minute while I run that mental video a few times.
You do know what happens when one stops running while the treadmill is still on, right?
BWAAHAHAHAHAHA!!
Glenn W. Smith is upstairs at the front page with a new thread.
IIRC, when the Republicans campaigned in ‘68, one of their goals was to predominate the election of state legislatures, to be in place for the ‘70 census and control the drawing of political boundaries for the coming decade which allowed only one Democratic win – Carter’s in ‘76. It would behoove the current campaign not to forget history, and to consider the coattail effect in state legislatures, the 2010 census is near enough, and districts will be re-drawn to meet population shifts.
I hope the corrupt GOP has a stake through its heart on Nov 4th, Rovian tactics and all.
And the Dems better be ready to deliver. Starting with Iraq, climate change, and health care.
My long time friend, Annie, lives in Alabama and she called me recently all distraught that ‘Barack Obama was born in Kenya and is not a citizen of America’. I said, ‘Who the hell told you that!”. Different personality types gather their information in different ways. Many of us get our info from many sources, we think and deliberate. Others look to authoritative community leaders when making decisions. The latter tend to be very conservative though not always of course.
Knowing this I think that KayInMaine’s response to her friend is exactly right. We need to befriend more of those in the authoritarian mindset and gently lead them out. Colin Powel endorsing Obama today will help, he’s a very respected leader.
I have been getting several mailings and phone calls a week from DCCC. Personaly I would rather not have the DCCC making the decisions as to where that money goes. Debbie Wasserman Schultz Please.
I was with 2 friends last night that are reluctantly voting for Obama. They really don’t like McC but worry that ‘there’s a dark side to Obama’. They didn’t know quite what they meant by that, just a sense. The repubs have succeeded in planting that idea in millions of people’s minds. I don’t think it’s enough to stop victory but I really want a united nation and we may not be there when Obama wins.
Do they think he’s going to chain White Folks together and send them off to work on Cocoa Plantations in Africa ?
One really BIG topic we need to be looking at from now until 2012 is the states…… Governors, state legislatures….. the DNC and all organizations need to target and turn as many states blue as they can…..
The reason is the 2010 census and then redistricting……. go dig out your DVD “The Big Buy” or watch the trailers on youtube…… IT is all about the republicans BFF gerrymander…….
Yes win the WH and Congress BUT we need to win the states to put that stake through the GOP…..
Joe Lieberman endorses a Republican.
Colin Powell endorses a Democrat.
But only one does so out of integrity and putting country first.
Sure hope you told your friends that, while they may suspect that Obama’s got a “dark” side, they already know and have become pretty familiar with McShame’s “dark” side throughout this campaign. It’s obvious that while he talks about reaching across the aisle, he has used whispering campaigns and outright blatant lies in his quest to wrest the power of this country and to use it to further his personal agenda. I’d bet on Obama not having anywhere near as “dark” a side as McLame’s.
Kay I couldn’t Agree with you more on the Tax issue for church’s and the Minister’s who use their Pulpits for Political means. There was a compelling reason that the founding fathers insisted on Separation of Church and State. So There NEVER could be a STATE Religion that would be DICTATED to all.
I feel that Taxing those who Violate the Principal is fitting and Just, maybe then the Congregation could rid themselves of these divisive Ministers???
I also Like the thought of those taxes collected from them go directly to help those in need most !!
Tough nut to crack. Takes a lot of compassion and patience but if you get one who will listen rather than talk over you you’re well on the way to success. It also helps to be familiar with the Bible when dealing with the reichwing Christians. You can point out that Martin Luther helped get the Bible published so people could read it, more commonly have it read to them, and interpret it for themselves rather than have others interpret it for them. It’s been my experience that many of those who say they read the Bible every day are actually repeating what the airwave crusaders are saying every day. Big difference.
Who the hell knows. They watch FoxNews and were McC supporters till the debates. They switched but can’t get past all the b.s. that they’ve been fed by Fox. It’s an intangible. They just feel that there’s something basically unsavory about him. More than anything else, I think it was Rev. Wright being shoved down their throats 24/7.
I’m writing this, not to defend or criticize them, but to just explain what’s going on out there. They’ll vote for O, but never really like him.
Had a long conversation with my neighbor….. she and I walk daily but keep our talking on other subjects as she is more libertarian but she shocked me with her saying she voted for Obama and started listing the reasons…… in the last debate McCain looked like a baby with a dirty diaper…… Palin is disgrace…… and and…… she also used my yard signs with internet searches to decide on local races……
It was interesting to have her try and convince me that I should vote for Obama and why……
For those interested in the GA Senate race, Martin and Chambliss debate on the local ABC affiliate (WSB) at the bottom of the hour.
And just before the debate, there was a DSCC-sponsored ad against Chambliss. Gotta love it.
Yes,can you let us know how it is going?
OOO, could you do it as a diary for us – I’m sure a LOT of people would be interested in it – if for not other reason than the whole Max Clelland case.
Love that!
Will do. I’m watching it and recording it as well. The first thing that comes to mind is that this is likely the least-viewed time slot in GA except maybe the 1am-6am time slot. Many of those who would benefit from seeing this are in the midst of their post-church, pre-football activities.
Saxby Chambliss: “I AM the middle class.”
Say what?
I don’t possess the words necessary to express my joy at the delicious irony of Rethugs whining about being outspent in an election.
The money advantage is the only thing that has kept them in power this long, and now, primarily because of the internet, that advantage is gone.
Couldn’t happen to a more deserving bunch.
They’ll find a few Mohammeds, certainly. And they’ll haul out the same racist stuff…asserting that this indicates that Obama is a Muslim or supported by terrorists. They’ll imply that these are not American citizens.
The fight is still on.
Please DON’T Tax ME!
(Under John McCain’s “$5million man” definition).
