John McCain was in a tough spot tonight. He’s tanking in the polls as he ramps up the personal attacks on Barack Obama, yet the base was clamouring for a knock-out punch . He had to throw them some red meat, even if it meant alienating the non-insane. There were landmines everywhere and McCain stepped in all of them. His smirking, snarky tone was decidedly un-presidential, and his bitter, whiny complaining performance probably satisfied no one.
On the other hand, it was Obama’s best showing yet. His answers were poised, direct and sincere — especially when he dealt with the difficult subjects of Ayers, John Lewis and the ugly mob that Sarah Palin has been stirring up at her public events. He addressed the accusations of being a terrorist head on, and didn’t try to dismiss the ugliness of it. It’s the first time I’ve heard him speak quite so unflinchingly about something so personal and vicious, and he did it in a way that was grounded and made him appear totally confident and calm in his conviction. It inspired a lot of confidence that he has the maturity and the gravitas to address really complex and difficult situations. He definitely showed grace under pressure.
But the most memorable moment of the debate — the one that should come back to haunt McCain — was when he sneeringly dismissed concerns for women’s "health" with regard to abortion. Contempt for women just oozed out of every pore of his being, and it was no stretch to imagine the same man turning to his wife and saying "at least I don’t plaster on the makeup like a trollop, you c**t."
I guess at some point that China doll down in Old Hong Kong turns into just another annoying slut, eh?
David Plouffe wrapped it up afterwards by saying "we came into the debate with two thirds of the American people thinking that John McCain is running a negative campaign, and Senator McCain spent 90 minutes trying to convince the other third."
McCain was a nasty, vicious glass of sour milk who can barely contain his temper and can’t quite fathom what is happening to him.
Anybody who still thinks McCain isn’t running a negative campaign is either in denial or wasn’t watching.

Heh, those ‘all I got was this stupid t-shirt’ are all the rage here in the Isles, Jane…! *g*
CNN’s got more polls up. VERY good numbers for Obama.
McCain/Plumber 08!
My friends, who gives a rats ass about some warshed up women’s “health” issues.
-Twitchy McBlink
McPain/Plumber 08. It takes 3 to tango.
beautiful Greg
Okay I’m adding that.
McSmirkySlimeMold sold his soul for personal ambition long ago. Looks like somebody has come to collect.
I agree with you Jane. Mc’s sneering dismissal of health of mother was truly shocking and hopefully makes him plunge in the polls with women.
and can’t quite fathom
what is happening to him. much of anything.Hope you don’t mind my edit.
Spot on Jane I wonder how much the women’s vote can change for Obama.
Jane, my take was very similar to yours on Obama addressing the Ayers and Palin-hate-rally issues. He hit the issues head-on and McCain looked like an elderly talk-radio host trying to keep tossing out the buzzwords endlessly. I also thought McCain’s contemptuous reference to women’s “health” (with the dorky finger-quote gesture) must have struck most viewers as pretty unpleasant and even disturbing.
If the blinking is a tell then McCain was lying through the whole debate.
Heh. Tighty-Righties wound up Mc to go after O in last debate and it totally backfired. Like totally.
My father and watched together (with my newly political fiancee) – my question was “does health include extreme post-partum depression with suicidal ideation?” nah, suck it up buttercup
EPU’d:
When they were talking about education all of us here heard what we thought was McCain suggesting that soldiers coming out of the Army could be employed as teachers in schools.
Were we all hallucinating?
Mc* sneered and dismissed his way through the entire saga.
L 7
Shorter McSame: “I know about being mad and I can be madder than that one. Vote for me!
The blinking! It was crazy.
Last polls I saw showed he was already tanking among women. At this rate, Sarah Palin will be the only woman in America to vote for him. Even she is only doing it because she has been slipping arsenic into his coffee ever since the convention.
Well what a jerk John has shown himself to be! Never anything positive!! Who the fuck wants a nasty negative old man to be president?? And when he dies in Office and he will the actuaries say it will!
McCain’s contemptuous reference to women’s “health” (with the dorky finger-quote gesture) must have struck most viewers as pretty unpleasant and even disturbing.
Pretty amazing how much more people around here catch than the “experts” in the media catch…
I wondered if an Infantryman was qualified to teach calculus, myself
Last week is was the pacing around
This week it was McCain’c constant snorting into his mic during Obama’s time. That is what late night will be joking about this week.
McCain is having a hard time, and he’s angry.
(Repeat ad infinitum)
It’s only down from here on out
McNasty has no where to go except down!
So much for throwing his best shot!
http://www.cbsnews.com/blogs/2…..5171.shtml
Game over.
Ah so, slow arsenic poisoning is what accounts for his stranger demeanor tonight. Thanks for the medical insight. *g*
Especially the left eye. If he won I would have to get rid of my tv.
I’m not sure if that or trying to paint BO as pro- choice was McCain’s low point …
Barely controlled rage!!
High School of the Americas.
Well given the available evidence, I would say that the average pfc is well qualified to teach business classes, or at least as much as the people currently teaching them.
Jane!
From downstairs, someone asked for the Joe the Plumber link: this is the one I saw:
Hey! Thanks Jane.
-G
Facts are pesky lil things.
I noticed that. Does McLame understand that a vote of “present” is not the same thing as “aye?”
Has *anyone* on teevee caught the ‘Obama voted against Breyer’ gaffe?
McCain is having a hard time, and he’s angry.
Troops to teachers without certification. That is what is scary. I am sure troops could make fine teachers. But don’t you think some training might be necessary?
Perhaps ethics classes too!!
No plus he wants them to teach without getting credentials is how I understood it.
Without those credentials kids at the bottom of the class because of hyperactivity, ADD, whatever (McCain), and kids with reading problems (Bush) won’t get diagnosed and get the help they need.
McCain better have his mooseburgers tested for radiator fluid.
Palin is already calling it a Palin Administration.
-G
John Hit him With his best Shot!!
Do you think he needs a drug test what kind of drugs do that?
Meet Joe the plumber
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fao7twqFwPA
McCain’s Brazilian honey remembers him as a good kisser. It should probably be noted that back then his plate didn’t slide around.
CNN – polling of “independents” 57-31, Obama.
What wrapped it up for me and put a bow on it was at the end when Barack and Michelle walked off the stage together and McCain just walked off and left Cindy behind.
McCain figures that if he keeps blinking that at some point he’ll ‘wake up’ and it will have all been a bad dream and that he didn’t pick Palin after all. He can keep right on blinking…
McCain, quite simply, looked like the baffoon he is.
He did a good job of not letting his head ’splode.
Irregardless of the uneven blinkiness.
Heard that too. I think he even added something about how they shouldn’t be required to take any competency tests either. Just throw in the classrooms is how I interpreted what CrazyTrain was saying.
Great. Now we’ve got Blinky and Winky.
I was pretty surprised at that. Sunni/Shia (or is it Sununu/Shia?), Czechoslovakia, etc. etc. But then it passed & other stuff came up & it slipped my mind. Thanks for bringing it up again.
Can Mc resuscitate himself in Indiana when he finally comes back to Letterman? And why does Letterman wear white socks? Is it some Indiana thing?
Oh, yeah, you heard it right.
It is actually an existing program – here in military city San Antonio I know we have a number of former military OFFICERS who went into teaching on leaving the service. The program started several years ago, when the military was cutting back, before we got into all-war all-the-time, all-over.
There is or was a training program, similar to others for fast-tracking people with college degrees into teaching without having to go back to college.
What startled me was that McC said something like, “straight into schools without having to be certified.” !! These programs don’t do that; they give college grad vets some training in education theory and classroom management, and a special certification.
Hong Kong Blues just because.
Be kind to your elders!!!!!
Off the top, meth…
but I’m old school.
There’s prolly new shit out there that really fucks you up. For life.
It’s a teletubby reunion.
I’m trying to imagine what McInsane might have possibly said or done tonight to offend women more…
nope – I think he pretty much nailed it.
Dave has worn White Socks and Adidas Running shoes since the early days …
Le Comte de Buffon resents the comparison.
blinkin’ and winkin’ and todd
Last I watched it was white socks & business shoes–not tassel loafers, but tie shoes.
McCain’s task tonight was almost epically hopeless. He needed to look statesman like but also to throw mud. He had to distance himself from a President’s disastrous policies, almost all of which he agreed with. He had to shore up his wingnut base while reaching out to independents and moderates. An insider who was the outsider. The guy who was experienced in how things are done who wanted to change how things are done. The maverick but also the careful steward of your tax dollars.
Any one of these contradictions could have sunk him tonight. As it turned out, they all did.
McCain kept referring to Breyer and Roberts when he meant Alito and Roberts. Breyer joined the court in ‘94, don’t think Obama had much to do with that.
That is sooooo purrrfect!
Well, shoot. My links don’t seem to show up lately, even though it was there in preview.
Let me try typing it out:
http://www.jedreport.com/2008/…..mbing.html
The wing nuts must be sooo dissapointed that McBlink didn’t bring up Rev. Wright and the kerning on Obama’s birth certificate and the fact that Obama turned the Ohio state flag into a personal Obama flag…..
-G
Ha!! Can see the TV ads aready…
Dave must have gotten a raise … *g*
touche!
Can Mc resuscitate himself in Indiana when he finally comes back to Letterman? And why does Letterman wear white socks? Is it some Indiana thing?
lol. nope, ’round here you’ll see more dark socks.
best worn with shorts, of course.
and I’m thinking that McInsane takes Indiana 52-48. You might wanna check with me on that tomorrow though.
In the immortal words of St. Paris of Hilton “Loves it”
he has so many that he just wallows there
McLame was wondering if Obama thought enough of his position, then he should have voted one way or the other, IMHO.
Well Sarah’s home town is the Meth Capital of Alaska, maybe thats how she got the VP job.
Ooops. Mrs. Greenspan has changed her tune. After initially creaming on Mc’s performance, she now sez that the base might have loved it but it didn’t convince the undecideds.
Dya think?
… and he had to demonstrate sound decision making while talkin’ about Palin …
ahem, as a brasilian, I am utterly grossed out and as a woman I’m speechless
I had not heard that.
Should I be shocked?
What is it with rednecks and speed?
Who is Presidential?
Obama has the race precisely where he wants it.
The difference between the way they treated their wives on stage was a tell.
McCain gave Cindy a fake looking hug and then ignored her. Then he walked off and left her on the stage.
Obama, on the other hand was conscious of his wife’s presence, treated her like he loved her and was glad she was there..
No. Was that like speaking to his fellow prisoners?
I think his A to that Q will become a classic YouTube, kinda like “potatoe” in its day.
They are so far removed from us. They have no idea what it’s like to worry because you dropped 10 thousand of your 401K in three days. We don’t give a fuck about the stupid shit Mcnutjob talks about. His dead end policy is more of the same.
I live by the Meth capital of the southwest (Madrid, NM). Can I be VP next?
I beg to differ. Mc has O just where he wants him. If you don’t believe me, just ask Mc. /s
Oh, DrDick,
Your ref is so funny! Comte de Buffon, our French naturalist!
Just further proof that the total lack of taste can be found in all cultures. Don’t take it too hard. I know Brazilians general set high standards in this regard.
Good angle the right the only people going to McCain rallies must be disappointed that McCain didn’t go Racist, Terrorist, Elitist and Extremists on Obama.
I think the Idiots are about to vote McCain off the Island.
this morning on washington journal there were some guests on talking about how the debates could really be debates – and break out of the narrow range of issues and conventional responses.
don’t let the campaigns be in charge, include all candidates who are on enough state’s ballots to theoretically win, good stuff like that. not going to happen, but it was a nice thought.
You betcha.
Obama was terrifically focused. One of the talking heads said he seemed “weak” by not responding to attacks. Just the opposite. He stuck to the issues, and was clear and direct. He was absolutely great.
McCain. Wow. The comments that so many have noticed. Sneering at the “health” of a pregnant woman. The troops to classroom, skip the training, skip the certification. Well, that should certainly help the educational system. Take all these folks returning with Post traumatic stress disorder and lets throw them willy nilly in with the second graders. Good plan.
McCain looks like rubber room material. His facial expressions. His seething rage. Just bizarre.
of course now, it is clear that McCain DOES ‘plaster on the makeup like a trollop’
Still 82-15 at CNN.com – Obama
In fairness to Johnny, he was a handsome guy back in the day, although by all accounts, he was and remains a jerk. If I were her, I don’t think I’d acknowledge the relationship, much less provide unsavory details.
How silly of me… being 12 down with less than three weeks to go – McCain scores!
Excellent point *g*
Mr. RedWa described McCain’s expression as a mix between a scowl and a smirk and he wasn’t being complementary. He also said, McCain never addressed the issues. Our ballots should arrive tomorrow or Friday, thank goodness.
That was telling. And I love your sign on. I’ve kissed a few, too.
Is Joe the plumber related to joe sixpack
And the source of the word “buffoon”.
I think it was the same guy who was on democracynow late last week. Yep, not gonna happen, but it would be so good.
Went to a “debate” and a nap broke out.
Hey, jayt! How old are you?
Dave’s just a little older than I am – white socks were pretty de rigueur in our (Indianapolis) high school days. Guess he just hasn’t changed his style.
Course, wearing your cigarette pack twisted up in your t-shirt was part of the ensemble w/ the white socks then…guess it’s just Dave being Dave. *g*
One Night in Bangkok
Only if you can see it from your porch.
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/200…..WJ9ipvaA8F
Faux Spew calls it 67% to 33% Obama…!!! Stick a fork in McSame…!
Mc loves to be the comeback kid, according to his spinmeisters. FYI. I didn’t make that up.
Yes, I would have liked to have heard some real discussion about Henry Paulson’s string of half ass plans, their cost, and why we can’t do better.
Most plumbers I know bear more resemblance to a keg.
McCain’s fav Brasilian phrase … “Bombas afastado !” …
… apologies to wb and Brasil …
Third cousins, twice removed.
maybe one cycle we could agitate for it.
No. Was that like speaking to his fellow prisoners?
worse. The topic *was* the Supreme Court, and he blasted Obama for not voting for not voting for Stephen Breyer, who was elected to the Court in 1994.
and Obama missed it, too – he’s gonna be kicking himself in the morning.
well I wouldn’t say that but McCain? ugh
They’re gonna do a whole set of “McCain Gone Wild” Videos …
I don’t have a porch(apt), but I can see it if I stand on my patio wall, and I look fab in a one piece bathing suit, if a bit on the hairy side…
i think my chocolate high is gone.
Um, methinks that, if asked, O would have praised Paulson to the sky. If you want O elected, you should be glad he didn’t get a chance to address that one.
If Obama thought Joe the plumber cared, I’m sure he would have addressed it.
Since Obama is so far ahead does that mean Bush is weaker with those whom he deals with now? will other countries put off things that bush might want to sprint to the finish doing? Does the Iraqi gov have more strength in negotiations?
Shit. Christine I forgot to email you. *headdesk* i’ll get to it tomorrow as it will be a slow day
I think I’m about eight years younger than Letterman.
Mafia of the pols. Don’t think we have a chance. Better to work for better Ds, methinks.
He had more of the look of an old fart who had soiled his Depends.
Sort of a curdly milk baby smile.
My plumber wears a G string…
Obama tried to answer the questions McCain would respond with talking points that didn’t really answer the question.
Not just officers, but senior enlisted with degrees as well. I can only but imagine what some youngster thinks, when the prof is a 6′7′ beefy black guy with hands big enough to palm a 16lb bowling ball. Great former boss and really smart guy. Suspect he is a superb teacher.
Brain bleach, even if the plumber is a great looking guy/gal with a firm butt.
Joe the Plumber has a vericle smile out back.
Joe Six Pack has a Dunlop.
Ah! A mere child, then. ; )
Amazing how much Shrub has conceded in trying to get an agreement, eh?
Oh, and who could that be? Senator McCaine? What a night!
Sacre Bleu !
He was born in 1947 which make me 5 years younger, but I never lived in Indiana (though my last ex-wife grew up in Gary).
but mcsame would have to also answer the q.
on topic after topic tonight, i would get pissed off at obama’s lame answer only to do a 180 when mcsame gave his response.
Even when he was younger there is something about his eyes that renders him incredibly ugly.
Maybe he will no-show again….Id like it better if Dave withdraws the invitation.
I do not even want to know.
Ok then. You’re qualified.
My plumber wears a G string…
I’m way afraid to ask how you know that….
The defining moment for me about how John McCain feels about women was after the debate. Barack and Michelle walked off the stage together with his arm around her. John McCain walked off the stage alone. Cindy stood there a moment and then followed him. A very telling moment.
I’m certain you’d love Johanne.
One would certainly not want to do one’s homework in that class.
The precious is slipping away.
Oh, oh, I was still on my way home when I heard McGrumpy describe his mortgage rescue plan. Well, I don’t own a house, I rent. But I’d like to own a house: would Clench McTeeth buy me one? I might switch my support to him if he did.
Or perhaps he could just give me one of the houses he doesn’t even know he has. A vacation home… free and clear… could swing it for me.
Or not. How’s Taxcut McBush’s plan going down with everyone else?
My plumber wears a G string…
Too much info…!
Tradionally, plumbers seem to prefer to keep their cracks unencumbered.
707!!!!
you are so silly!
Bush will do anything for his pals to control Iraqi Oil …
Agree with Jane that this was Obama’s best performance- he was dazzling- able to hold all the issues in his mind and deal effectively with them without missing a beat or getting ruffled.
Even more important- he ignored opportunities for cheap points (like bashing the very bashable Palin) knowing that he is going to be the next president of the USA and that he wants the forebearance if not support of many of the ignoranti who support her.
Incredible performance- and surely McBush’s WORST- no substance- no coherrence- absurd. If he wants to argue that he’s older and wiser, he needs to demonstrate it. He behaved like an adolescent.
WTF! Are you now in the “other guy is worse” school?
Buchanan looks terribly constipated, but we know what he’s gonna say… McCain Wins!
sounds like you have some fun stories to tell.
No doubt Joe The Plumber knows a thing or two about “half ass.”
I forgot a not in that comment: not want to NOT do …
I do remember watching Dave do the local late-night weather on weekends.
“We’re gonna have hail the size of – Beachballs!
He was even funnier when one was, umm, in a certain state of mind…
Bet you’re right. And I bet he doesn’t have a lot of discipline problems in his classrooms, either. *g*
Even if that weren’t the case, he was and is ugly on the inside.
Well, she was hooking up some aquatic appliance, and when she knelt down, the butterfly effect was a wonder to look at.
you used a translator, didn’t you? *g*
What about Rape and Incest what is McCain’s position on abortion in those cases? I can’t believe how that point was ignored by the MSM media tools.
Can anyone shed light on why in the fuck at this point in the campaign, McBush is playing to his BASE- rather than the people in the middle who could actually win the election for him.. it’s fuckin crazy.
Don’t worry Wobbs! I spent a whole day in a marketing seminar, and came home jazzed and exhausted. Will return to work and play catchup on email. Catch me at work at cedmonson@clevelandart.org
Hiya All!
Jane,
I will in the coming days consider whether to write a more considered and documented answer. But let me say, I am 53 years old. I am a woman. My father, deceased, was born in 1923. His mother, my grandmother, had one other pregnancy before his. It was a girl that was not brought to term. I was told the story by my mother who from the same small rural town in the heartland, both families went back to the 1850s in that area. It was my grandfather’s decision whether to save the unborn or his wife. My mother was outraged that it was even a choice. I have early memories of her outrage. … My grandfather chose his wife.

Put the debates back into the hands of the Women’s League of VOter’s.

Pat Buchanadana makin’ my head hurt again.
feh.
Buchanan always sounds on the verge of heart failure.
Yeah, I got out in ‘82 after I finished my degree but most all the AF types going for E7, 8, and 9 had at least a bachelors if not a masters and a few had their doctorates.
And not in underwater basket-weaving either but in CS, EE, Accounting, etc.
ROFL
i’d like to hear obama have to answer some hard questions about paulson and obama’s arm twisting for the bail out. and i don’t think it would take away from his lead because mcain would have done worse.
does that make me bad person? *g*
*She*?
Well, that’s a different kettle of fish altogether…
Yep.
It’s all he thinks he has left. But according to what I read, he never had them to begin with. So those who vote no matter what, will vote for Mc, but base turnout should be low.
Yes’m ! … was it that bad ? *g*
Great essay, Jane -the best synopsis I’ve read yet.
Obama the Menace creamed Mr. McWilson…
At least until the election, his position is the same as Palin’s… no exceptions even for rape and incest. Imagine what a hardass he’d be if he weren’t a compassionate conservative.
I see I was a little slow to that joke.
And many of us were in that, um, state of mind, in those days, hmmm?
Christine !
No logical explanation. McCrazed.
I’m out, see y’all.
Honey I’m home from the Debate Party…..
Letterman just eviscerates McCain. The ad concludes: John McCain—I’m So Very Tired.
Cmon, selise, you know the O answer befor the Q is asked so why bother?
Are you manipulating me into telling you that you are a great person?
((((selise))))
Because at this point just about everyone except the base has written him off. I think his campaign has known for a while that they were dead unless they could totally energize the base (which largely hates his guts and has only climbed on board because of (im)Palin).
Someone on a WaPo chat speculated that Navy Corpsman Wright, while at Bethesda Naval Hospital, may have provided medical care to one of the Admiral McCains. That makes more sense that being worried about their own pastor problems, since they just ignore that type of disconnect.
Just took a peek at CNN -
What is the number in the Guinness Book of Records for number of pundits fit into one room?
It might be dry eye, a symptom of old age. My mom got it in her 70’s.
Or lieing.
I think that about says it all. The entire campaign has been crazy – the next 3 weeks should be a lot of fun.
Nighties, rat… right behind ya!
Go Racist Defend the South protect the GOP’s filibuster in the Senate. I agree that the plan sucks I don’t think the votes are their to even do that, but that was McCain’s plan.
The plan assumes from the start that McCain had no chance of winning this election though?
lol. no, but if i knew that would have done, i would have. *g*
Even Johnny JetJockey has to have figured out that if Rove somehow orchestrates a gargantuan power grab and he wins the election the wacko-christo fringe will paint a big target on his back so that Phalin, the Annointed One, can lead our nation into the “end times”
I’m still waiting for a response from Lady Bird at , but, she does allude to the fact that the pressure is all on Shrub…!
Check it out and my question…! *g*
ummm well *g* no it’s not bad
All that hot air could melt the Polar Ice Caps …
Hey Petro! Well! What a day and evening. The seminar people were wonderful, and amazed that we attended…
well? How was it?
That would be Roads to Iraq, that was omitted from my comment…!
Dry eye runs in my family & I have it. Don’t think I blink a lot though (others will have to verify), as that does not add moisture, only scrapes lid over whatever impurities on the eyeball. Probably more than you needed to know.
please don’t get my hopes up, but on the other hand, I love to watch Rachel M shred him
And the Debate Mod never brought that up! Perhaps because it would hurt McCain can you get anymore biased?
Night rf & Wangdang!
Goodnight, pups. It was nice to pop back in and see so many of you still here.
I did manage to balance a glass (less than half full) while accessing teh toobz and thinking up the idea …
i did learn something new tonight…. obama has a nice smile that he used to excellent effect, especially when mcsame was saying something idiotic.
don’t know if that is an important asset for a president, but i suppose it can’t hurt.
boa noite ratfood and Wangdang
You don’t blink like McCain does.
Pat Buchanadana hangin’ on by his fascist fingernails now…
What an empty suit, huh? Sure looks and sounds though…
I love it and suspect my husband will too. He couldn’t quite come up with the words. This is perfect.
nite, wdd!
Yes, and I thought it was a genuine, amused smile—in sharp contrast to McC’s smug smirk while listening to Obama.
He’s even losing his base. There was that quote today from the person who said she didn’t care that “obama was a member of some weather terrorist group, she was voting for him anyway cuz she was tired of paying for health insurance.”
Tis true, she said that.
Buchanan thinks that if we lived in an alternate universe, McPain would win.
Wonder what his contract is like and if NBC won’t think about buying him out after this election cycle.
Pukeanan: If po peeple didn’t lie on their mortgage app., we’d have President
McCainPalin on Nov. 4thNight, wang!
You noticed!
Pat keeps saying McCain was up when he first picked Sarah and that no VP has ever done that.
Pat knows better Sarah was picked right before the GOP convention every election both parties get a convention boost in the polls.
Can Pat prove it was Sarah and not a convention bounce?
He blinks because he’s all hopped up on speed. Let’s face it, he’s an old geezer who has put in a lot of hours over the last year and is simply spent. Enter Cindy and her little bag of pills…
Nah, he makes Rachel’s ratings higher …
Julia is up at the Mothership!
Christopher Buckley Tossed from Dad’s Magazine
We were watching on PBS which would usually show one candidate at a time, not split screen like the vid above. Really sucks for McCain when it’s split screen.
Time to wheel him back into the crypt and seal the door.
Amazing that medical costs matter! Coming back to the real world. That would be a good thing.
Roger Simon, from Politihacks.com, looks kind of green and sickly….
fesses up that McCranky lost big time.
i don’t know if that is how that would actually be expressed. I’ll have to ponder that
Yeah if you were blinking like McCain was trust me I would have noticed and hid my wallet in case you were on Meth.
Anyone looking to interview the Mittster now that McCain has won all three debates? /s
Per my husband (I worked for him later): One of the day staff was being annoying and snubbed Earl. Not wise! Earl took ONE step up onto the guy’s desk, his shoulders up on ceiling, and repeated poked his finger into the guy’s chest and made his point. The guy didn’t make that mistake again.
They have eye drops for it, neu eyes or something similar to that.
McCain likely had damage to his Facial Nerve (cranial nerve VII) during radical surgery for cancer in his right cheek/parotid area. CN VII carries sympathetic nerves that stimulate tear production. Dry eye and excessive blinking could be a result of damage. Same with his botox appearance. Damage to CN VII is like having permanent botox.
His lizard like tongue protrusion is another matter.
Did you notice how McCain just left the stage by himself, with Cindy awkwardly walking seven steps behind? No wonder she is sad. He has no interest in her and we have the proof, in addition he mocked woman’s health during the abortion/choice segment of the debate. It’s really McCain first and always has been–right the first Mrs. McCain? In contrast Michelle beams as she is embraced by her man…a healthy relationship.
I always listen to “scholars” like Buchanan (who blames Winston Churchill for WWII).
I truly don’t understand why he is still employed after publishing such a piece of fantasy-history.
Actually, I think Buckley resigned but his resignation was accepted with lightning speed…
So, wobbly, did Petrocelli say something naughty???
A demain, wobblybits
Easy! A whole bunch of us just don’t like McCain and only the far right will follow him.
well, clearly this is very personal with me… but in the 1920s the question of who lived, the mother or the child, was the husband’s decision… and now? McCain??
Thanks Jane. Bullsye as per usual.
digg
10:51 – Sam Stein: … “it appears that Bob Scheiffer gave John McCain the final word on seven of the eight questions.” And still McCain LOST!
I wonder how many of his bloopers actually came on what should have been Scheiffer “gimmes”/
1) The no abortions even for women that face serious health risks comments…”It could be anything”.
2) His botched comment about how transplants were simply “gold-plated Cadillacs” in health insurance plans. No most of the cognoscento know he botched” his joke line…and meant “hair transplants” (the only ones I suspect who have hair transplant coverage are those CEO’s that would be utterly unaffected by his plan, though). Most people will hear this as “heart, kidney, liver, corneal, blood marrow, ocular lens” transplants.
3) The Breyer…Alito mix-up.
4) The fact that he’s proud of the supporters screaming threats and violence against Obama…and proud of Palin stirring them up.
“It’s THAT ONE’s fault”.
Pretty much it is an unofficial requirement to have a degree to get to E8 and E9. I don’t know any senior NCOs promoted in intel fields without them.

my grandmother’s life was saved in the 1910s by what today would be called a partial birth abortion — she couldn’t deliver he large first son and he was sacrificed after a day of labor to save her — she went on to have 8 more children 6 of whom grew up –
without that decision to save the life of the mother, my own mother would never have been born — nor of course I
by using that technique her life and her fertility were saved and me and my 14 cousins are happy with the choice
‘women’s health’ — in finger quotes? Lilly Ledbetter’s situation is just about lawyers making money? this is a guy with little respect for women — but then the way he treated his first wife and his second wife is evidence of that.
McBush was a huge loser tonight looked like shit acted like shit spoke like shit
other than that he did great
Up in Alaska, some of us looked at that real hard. I think there was a very brief Sarah bump – less than four days. And then it merged with the convention bump. By the end of the convention, there were reporters flying up here from all over the world. It didn’t take them long to get the real truth on Sarah out to the world, without it having to be filtered through Alaska MSM or GOP events.
If there was a true “Sarah bump,” it lasted less than 72 hours – late August 29th, through Labor Day weekend.
In the end of the beginning, she did herself in, by looking so inept, unfit. Now, at the beginning of the end, she’s going to do anything she can to build her evangelical base into the future, no matter what McCain tells her to do.
The RNC is pulling ads in Maine and Wisconsin.
Trying to save some of those Senators, I guess.
Maybe they are the only ones donating money cause of Palin.
no no no. a bomba is a bomb. he was sayimg bombs away (right petro?)
Jane…you were right on tonight…Obama won by a landslide!!
One thing and it could have been in the replies and I missed it..but
did anyone pick up on the mistake McShame made regarding the Palin baby!
McShame said that he was a child with Autism…not Down Syndrome…
The Hatchet lady will be on his case tomorrow..Talk about the candidate
who is out of touch.
Let’s hope this all stays on track for the next three weeks…

you off to get some sleep, wayne? If so, boa noite
CNBC who are these financial people on, so many new news readers lately. The video/background is too busy hard on the eyes and they change the pics too fast, makes me dizzy. I’ll have to turn the channel.
Ah, thanks. I’m always interested in language/translation – curiosity overwhelmed me.
And now, to all you wonderful firepups who help me survive the campaign w/ sanity intact – good night, all!
Shouldn’t it be “McCain sold his sold to the Religious Right?”
Considering he used to be pro-choice, and now he is sneering at the idea of protecting women’s health says that to me.
Sunshine, who is the “they” donating to McCain/Palin? Not my mother, not my grandfather, not any of my “ancestors” that I am aware of from the heartland. Common sense goes with fact based reality… fact based goes with the land… and against fundamentalism.
boa noite tejanarusa
peaceful rest
notice how many of the right wing is willing to shove mcbush under the bus but wants to save Palin’s sorry ass. They think she will be useful in the future. Hard to imagine.
I was concerned with John McCain’s mental [airquote] health [airquote]. He has obviously gone insane. Maybe he daydreamed himself back to a time when women did not have the [airquote] right to vote [airquote]. Don’t worry. I think soon we’ll have all of his supporters tagged so we can monitor their locations in the field. We’ll place them somewhere they’ll be happy and can’t cause anybody trouble, like retirement communities and nursing homes. If a large group of them masses for a stampede through the mall with strollers, we’ll be on top of it making sure nobody gets hurt.
McCain supporters only look frightening. There just as afraid of us as we are of them, so don’t be scared.
Yep ! *g*
Rachel made a point re McCain’s anti-abortion stance that ought to be used by the Obama campaign: McCain’s suggesting that the government have jurisdiction over every pregnant woman and be able to tell her that she MUST give birth to any baby she becomes pregnant with. Is that “small government” or “keep government out of our lives”?
Of course the wingnuts WANT this, because to them it’s just an extension of the theocracy they love. [Wonder how they’d feel if the “theo” in that “ocracy” was Muslim?]
artemesia, right… there is a growing up with this understanding, it is different than any understanding of “unwanted” pregnancy, which I would not diminish, but the growing up with the understanding – most particularly and personally as a woman – that your husband could choose your life… and if chosen… those of us a generation or two down would not be here… WTF… Gotta say, I do not believe than any man, ANY man, should be able to choose me over my fetus.
In my mind I’ve made up a little story to explain why he wears athletic socks with his tassel loafers every night. He used to wear the same pants every night with the sox and running shoes – when he moved to CBS, they wanted him to dress up nicer. He is a rebel kid, it is his way of staying “comfortably dressed” while in suit and big-boy shoes.
“….and you don’t know what is happening here, do you, Mr. Jones/McCain”….
