I’ve been thinking of Michael Palin for weeks. Such a gentle, fascinating, gifted, generous man. Yes, he can play comedy perfectly, and we have loved his cameo roles in various pieces.

But we in this family came to be most impressed by Michael Palin, the man, through his travels and documentaries filmed around the world in places many would not dare to venture.

He is a genius, a marvelous performer, a deep thinker showing appreciation for all the world’s people and places, and sharing generously with the rest of us who view his films and documentaries, as well as his compelling lessons in compassion and respectful, deep curiosity toward people whose cultural traditions and practices are different from our own, but who are well worth learning from and, most certainly, deserving of appreciation and respect.

I have no doubt that Michael is able to put into proper perspective the burden of having to share a surname with the infamous Sarah. I, however, have a problem.

Sarah. I have seen much of what Michael Palin has to offer this world.
I have seen some of what you claim to offer.

Sarah. You are NO Michael Palin. Much less should you pretend to assume such power as you now desire.

Pity Michael Palin is a Brit, he’d be a better Palin for VP.
