Trekkies–or to use the more PC term they prefer "Trekkers"– have been hotly debating who’s who on the bridge of the Starship Enterprise.
While McCain as Kirk seems a bit grandiose, Palin as a tribble, the irritatingly cute, furry creature which is actually a ecological menace is spot on.

NO. McCain = Kahn!!!!!!!!!!!!!
NONONONO not Kirk
On second thought, make that a runof the mill Klingon, not Kahn, who was genetically enhanced.
John McCain is “the warmest, bravest most wonderful human being I’ve ever known in my life.”
McCain = Bele from Let That Be Your Last Battlefield, season 3…..NOT Kirk.
Kirk always did what was best for the Federation.
How insulting to Tribbles.
Human being?
McSame is not Kirk.
I loved the Tribbles – how could you, Lisa.
Well, Obama certainly has the superior intellect of Spock, but he’s not so cold and logical. I would go to the Next Generation and equate Obama with Picard.
And of course McCain was that Ferengi guy from Next Generation (or was that Deep Space Nine?)
Awhile back I compared McCain to Quark from DS9, or perhaps some less wily Ferenghi. It’s the frightening grin with yellow, pointed teeth that makes it seem apt.
Biden: Dammit, Barack, I’m a white man, not a miracle worker! If you want miracles, ask that tribble woman!
McCain = Harry Mudd
I’m not saying Obama is illogical in my post above, I’m just suggesting he has more warmth and empathy than Mr. Nimoy’s character.
Probably because Tribbles reproduced without any compunction and didn’t really think.
Unless it’s Kirk in the Episode “The Enemy Within” That was the one where Kirk split into two forms after a tricorder accident…one meek and indecisive, the other impulsive, womanizing and angry.
Sounds like the “Two Faces of McCain”.
Mudd was more affable, although it would explain McCain’s android wife.
Well Kirk was a reckless, impulsive womanizer who wasn’t afraid to gamble big.
The difference with McCain is that Kirk worked for good.
I dunno. I mean, McSame’s reactions seem to be building up to this kind of a moment.
But, I agree – even though Kirk routinely broke the Prime Directive, never suffered for it and got good press and promotions and then always seemed to come out on top with Peace, Love and Justice triumphant and a green Orion Slave Girl on each arm, McCain is not Kirk.
Obama = Picard? Good call. Better than Spock.-
THat’s perfect ! A real con man.
Oh, thank you Jesus, I’m not the first to say that McCain is Kirk.
Well, it’s okay. You went out on a limb, and people responded.
Know you audience is important.
Kirk? You missed a point.
But, I couldn’t do what you do. Come up with a coupla posts a day without getting out there.
So, you went there, and ya got people yakkin’ attcha. Is that the point?
If so, you win.
o/t I hope that when there is a minute to “respond to each other” during the debate, that McCain doesn’t do his Noise Machine impersonation like he did the first time.
He was not a womanizer. Unless, you need him to be for your comment.
Absolutely. That’s why he offered Cindy for the contest at the biker bar. After all, it’s a disgrace to clothe women.
McCain is the Gorgan.
“Hail Hail Fire and Snow!”
Palin is the Woman in “Spock’s Brain.”
“Brain and Brain! What is Brain!”
You mean the episode which put Kirk into a parallel universe where the Federation was an Empire and Spock had a beard?
Just don’t let him near the Tantalus device.
I meant to say Kirk is NOT McCain.
Don’t know why I clarified that. Nobody here gives a rats ass what I say.
I think McCain would be Loutus of Borg
http://memory-alpha.org/en/wiki/Locutus_of_Borg
Or
McCain as Gollum
http://crooksandliars.com/nico…..ain-gollum
good point
Palin also could be Ensign
BroccoliBarkley.Aw, I do.
Not true, hon. There are many here who care.
(((demi)))
Me too, Demi.
And I’ll always think of you as the star of “Ghost.” *g*
Nooo. She’s entirely too self-assured and un-self-critical to be a quivering mass of neurotic jello like Barkley. Which, BTW, was one of the better-formed characterizations in the whole Trek-i-verse.
Yeah, but didn’t he suddenly get super powers once that didn’t quite work out?
I care Demi!
OT but somewhat interesting. Brigitte Bardot: Sarah Palin Is “A Disgrace For Women”
“I hope you lose these elections because that would be a victory for the world,” Bardot wrote in an open letter to Republican John McCain’s running mate in the November vote.
Sure we do…
——-
But if you want to take a slightly different bit of fiction as metaphor, perhaps McGollum = Saruman. He does after all seem to be breeding both Orcs and Urak-Hai given some of the remarks at his and Sarah Wormtongue’s recent rallies.
And he developed a holodeck addiction when he decided he had to live there so he could get positive reinforcement of his troubled psyche from the fictional copies of crewmembers he’d created. If you remember, he was such a nutcase that even Troi fired him as a patient.
So it’s back to Freedom Fries, eh?
From the Bardot post over at HuffPo cited above:
…disconcertingly stupid… I do so love that phrase.
bom dia pups
I saw this posted in the comments section over at Politico. It is the slogan for Mccain’s campaign:
I agree, Obama = Picard. McCain I would put as a Romulan though. I can’t believe that hasn’t been mentioned. Or maybe that would be Karl Rove. But think of how underhanded the Romulans are. With Klingons you always knew what you were getting. With Kirk you knew he was going to break rules, but he had the best interest of many other people in mind. Ensign Barclay was too nice of a guy to be McCain. Palin could also be a Romulan, but that’s giving her too much intelligence . . . On second thought that’s probably giving McCain too much intelligence.
I’d go with Borg drones. The queen being a conglomeration of right-wing nut-jobs and major corporations.
lol! Freedom fries and wolf-burgers… a lot of Bardot’s beef with Palin regards her cruelty to animals.
WIth a mustache, McCain would look just like Cap’n Crunch.
OT:
Why doesn’t the GOP want poor people to vote:
ACORN office in Vegas raided in voter-fraud probe
Cheney, Addington and Libby are Romulans.
Or maybe Cardassians. From the Obsidian Order.
Would that make Todd Second of First?
Well, if you’re talking about Kirk in “The Deadly Years,” yes. Otherwise, McCain=Matt Decker.
Todd is definitely a steaming pile of number 2.
On the other hand, maybe Sarah is one of the Duras Sisters.
hmm well the Secertary of State and the AG of Nevada are both Democrats so we can’t lay this one at the repubs feet
Biden is gay?!
Without a mustache he looks like Nikita Khrushchev.
No, just flamboyant.
McCain isn’t Kirk. He’s every other insane fleet commander who appears through the series, e.g., Captain Richard Decker of “The Doomsday Machine”.
McCain is Gorn – slow, stupid and clumsy
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IDD3-2_wLR8
Bingo.
Not sure if you meant Locutus of Borg, but Loutus of Borg is far more appropriate. 707!
New Eli up at the Mothership
Yes! He should take his shoe off and bang on the podium tonight.
A couple weeks back, the NPR show. “Wait, Wait, Don’t Tell Me,” had Leonard Nimoy on as a guest. Nimoy told the story of attending a recent political event at which one of the presidential candidates was also present. When Nimoy approached him, the candidate greeted Nimoy with the Vulcan salute. As a hint, Nimoy said the candidate was not named McCain. Seems definitive to me…
I keep hoping…
…and cold blooded.
Bet the Gorn was a better pilot.
No, McSame is either Kang, the Klingon (in a few episodes) or the Commodore who takes a shuttlecraft to his death in The Doomsday Device. You couldn’t tell him anything and he almost took 2 Starship’s to their death. Palin is the Racist Styles in Balance of Terror–who Spock saves in the end, as he Fires the Phasers into the Romulan Warbird. Strike that, at least in Balance of Terror, Styles sees the error of his ways.
lol – he sure was!
i love it!!
Good to hear Brigitte Bardot weighing in. I’ve been waiting for Ms Clinton to, but, alas, I so far wait in vain.
Hillary can’t address Palin directly, if she did it would have the effect of boosting Palin’s perceived stature. As someone unconnected with U.S. politics, Bardot can say exactly what she thinks.
Doh….Well then there might actually be some fraud going on. I know in the Kansas City investigation back in 2006 they found a few isolated incidents of some employees making up registrations to boost their numbers.
Get real–McCain looks like the Horta
As McCain’s campaign falls apart, he starts reminding me more and more of the William Windom character in “The Doomsday Machine” — Commodore Decker, I think it was.
To me THE OBVIOUS matches from STAR TREK (original series)
Obama is without doubt Captain James Tiberius Kirk; the YOUTHFUL and charismatic brash young officer (mind you he is the youngest Captain in Starfleet)
Biden is the thoughtful and less charismatic Captain Christopher Pike
McCain is without doubt the out of control and UNSTABLE Captain Tracy from
”The Omega Glory” ( he who DOES NOT RECOGNIZE The Pledge of Allegiance and then the Preamble to The Constitution when he hears it, since the words have lost their meaning hand are nothing more than giberish ie: E plagneesta uctum flagen … ) It takes Kirk to sift through the jumble and use his brains and figure it out.
Palin is nothing more than a Green Orion slavegirl
the whole R ball of wax is summed up for me in “Landrew” with The Red Hour.
Tribbles with fangs? It’s a cliche, but I really did laugh out loud
Member how he died? “I’m going to take this ship right down that things throat”. Or as Kirk would later say: “It’s regrettable that he died for nothing”.
Palin, I watched T’Pring on TV, and you’re no T’Pring.
