I don’t even know what he thinks he means.

McCain Says Bailout Bill He Supported “Puts Us On the Brink of Economic Disaster”By: Jane Hamsher Thursday October 2, 2008 6:46 am |
I don’t even know what he thinks he means.
(h/t Americablog)
The butterfly wing eyelids are in full effect, too.
I liked the gulp, myself.
I think he’s been spending too much time with his running mate.
geez, John, please phone Reality, Inc.
and btw, it’s a long-distance call.
it was so elaine benes, that gulp!
Jane, thanks for staying on this.
digg
He gets more incoherent by the day.
I’ve had enough stupidity under the Bush-Cheney administration to last a lifetime, thank you.
Dugg.
It’s almost as though he’s trying to give House Republicans and the RNC a sound byte.
IIRC, RNC is running ads slamming Obama for voting “yes” on the bailout.
This is George Orwell’s “1984″on steroids.
He needs to pay more attention to how his ‘talking points’ become sources of great ridicule long before he stops using them. Such as how he and Palin kept up the ‘bridge to nowhere’ line long after it had become a joke. In this interview he once again used the “Senator Obama phoned it in” line even though he has since that time been pictured and ridiculed for phoning it in while he was in Washington ’suspending his campaign’.
Gibberish. Total effin’ gibberish. I voted for this bill I believe is a disaster because I’ve voted against and worked against a lot of other bills I thought were disastrous and harmful.
I did it in the past so I don’t have to keep doing it now?
John McShame was a POW – what does this mean
How much time did he spend in solitary – what does this do to the mind
Is it necessary to become a convincing liar to survive
Johnny Mac – “Please don’t pay any attention to my vote on this, quite possibly the most important vote I’ve ever cast. ‘Cause, ya see, the fact that even *I* had to vote for it just shows to go ya that pork is outta control. I’ve voted against some other stuff, doncha know? And Obama can’t carry my jock.”
that’s my best attempt to climb into that scary place rumored to be McLame’s brain, and I don’t wanna have to try that again, ever.
First the incoherence of his understanding of the bill’s relation to the “brink of economic disaster,” then the non sequitur move into speaking about voting against other bills. Did he think that he voted against this bill?
I know he thinks that nobody pays attention to his votes, but damn, Johnny Drama, the Country is PISSED OFF and paying attention to THIS one! Not knowing how to use the e-mail and it probably didn’t mean anything to you when they told you the mail servers were crashing, but that means that people are paying attention.
He wants to have it both ways – to be able to say its bad, but be able to defend himself against calls that he did nothing if this gets really bad and a bailout fails or whatever. That I can believe. That he thinks nobody will notice are say anything? He’s delusional.
McIdiot still running ads in Mi saying only Obama was for the Bailout…So this would make McNutty against it at the SAME TIME he is for it. Now I’m not saying McCain is lying..er YES I AM. McCain IS A LYING ASSHOLE, to put it mildly.
Hell, he was still using the 2 letter thing, which as been debunked as a lie-I forget a president supposedly wrote two letters and one of them said he would resign-during WWII I think.
ooopppss I’m having a Sarah Palin moment.
But you get the point. I’m not sure grampy even knows what day it is.
BBC is repeating the meme that American opinion is changing on the bailout bill. The reporter just stated this without giving any evidence that this had happened. Indeed she only cited one Congressman and his mail was running 40 to one against. Her report made no sense at all.
what does this do to the mind
He’s rather rapidly *losing* his mind, imo. There’s simply no way he’s gonna make it to election day.
Get the straight-jacket ready.
I’m serious.
It was Ike when he commanded D-Day.
Straight Talk this morning: “The corruption in Washington is not the Lobbyists.” Maybe the corruption is due to the community activists of ACORN.
By the way we need a Diary on The Paulson Bailout Tapes.
http://www.archives.gov/educat…..#documents
McCain’s advisors are all huddled with Caribou Barbie.
They left him with 5-day old talking points which he just used.
Does this remind you of a faux news reporter describing a scene where everyone is for Obama as being divided.
Jane, it this clip is bizarre
it looks like McCain has taken “response lessons” from palin, he filibusters and goes on with continuous nonsense as if he’s actually saying something
I actually believe he thinks palin is doing a good job and wants to emulate her style
Didn’t he said he would veto pork?
So, it’s like this, Senator Obama “phoned in” all the improvements to the bill that protected the American taxpayer, which John McCain seconded every time Obama brought them up, and Senator McCain made sure that all the tax breaks that are putting us on the “brink of economic disaster” were included to satisfy the House Republicans who he could not persuade to go along with the bill initially because of Nancy Pelosi (who’s afraid of the Big Bad Nancy?) or because they wanted tax breaks as those fiscally responsible Republicans are perennially wont to do. The solution to the problem that is bringing us to the brink is due to MEMEMEMEME, John McCain, and Obama is nothing but Nancy’s boy, eh? He kind of made sense at the debate, but when you get him in these bits and pieces, he does seem stark raving bonkers.
Actually there were a couple of Republican Senators who used similar arguments to McCain’s. Some railed against a bad bill that wouldn’t work and said they would vote for it. Some said the same thing and that they would vote against it. It was pretty confusing.
and many PTSD professionals would tell us – whatever the deleterious effects of his time as a POW, they merely amplify or bring to the fore, something already there – innate
I see where you got this from. It wasn’t a resignation letter it was one that took responsibility.
He said he would veto EVERY earmark.
you betcha!!! lol
…and sent him to Iowa – a state his campaign has already abandoned
Didn’t he said he would veto pork?
Can’t veto it if it isn’t already law – so he *had* to vote for it, you see…
Or something.
Hopefully he won’t have that chance since Obama will be our next president.
Especially after Caribou Barbue blows up the campaign tonight.
Can’t wait. it will be a sight to behold.
Meanwhile Nancy Potentbs is out at Westworld having her previously exploded head reassembled
(((((((Jane!)))))))
All thanks and praise to the Blog Goddess!
We should expect Very Erratic behavior from McCain all during the day today.
McSame’s Lack of Judgment is about to be Confirmed tonight, which Should End his Political Career and Sink the Republicans.
The Party’s almost ovah, Johnny!
He’s Not Fit to be the President of the United States.
Nice catch.
IIRC, words to the effect:
…and sent him to Iowa
hey – I thought that was great – made my whole day. *g*
I’m sure, however, that he’s doing much better in Iowa polls after his petulant and pissy performance there yesterday with the editorial board of The Des Moines Register and some other reporters.
/s
I believe he said he would veto every spending bill – which makes no sense at all…..oh,wait.
FWIW, DOW is down 218 points.
she’s not going to blow up the campaign tonight, she is going to be short, concise and cute
she has been told her rambling filibuster style makes her look like a moron, they gave her a bunch of Pre-scripted answers, she is not allowed to elaborate, she is not allowed to interject, she is allowed to repeat and rinse
at least that is what they better have counseled if they have any hope
which makes no sense at all
don’t even try to figure it out – it’ll just make your head hurt.
unemployment numbers were even worse ( by 30k +)than Street expectations -
with that big ol’ pen he has. here’s what I think. he got that pen from his daddy the admiral who got it from HIS daddy also a naval officer and it means so much to him that he kept it up his ass when he was a POW so the vietnamese wouldn’t get it and chris walken will give it to mccain’s son.
I tend to agree. BUT, even though Rahm gave away the farm as to the structure of this debate, I still gotta wonder how in the world she’s gonna make it through ninety minutes….
Love it. LOL.
Maybe he is just trying to confuse the public, saying he voted against the bill.
Because that pork, he wants us to Know Their Names.
Wonder if McShame thought he would win votes by citing his voting against the medicare prescription drug benefit. Certainly won’t win them from me, who wouldn’t be able to afford drugs at all except for that provision.
But I have another question: Can we get a bobble head doll for Mika? I watched part of the show this morning, and thought once again that all she ever does is babble and nod to Joe. As far as I can see, she is one of the weakest links in the journalism chain. A bobble head doll would be very life-like.
Bill Spaceman Nelson of Florida railed against the bailout bill – getting excellent sound bites on NPR – and voted against it. Neslon is a finger in the wind DINO. (The senator voted FOR cloture on Alito and then voted against him.)
IMHO, re: Bailout bill, his instincts were good. Already, Republicans are beginning to distance themselves from the bill even as they voted for it. They are already smearing Obama with it. Look at McNasty tying himself up like a Palin Pretzel trying to unstick himself from it.
Hey now. That’s a low blow. Can’t we all just get along?
It’s so tightly structured – 90 second to answer a question, then 2 minutes to chat about it – that she my be able to bs her way through but her answers will still be bs.
What I want to know is exactly what the Senate did pull off this vote. Something about a Wellstone bill on mental health making it possible. Obama and McCain were co-conspirators in this attempt at usurping the process. Please advise. Thanks.
Absolutely. Also reminds me of Ionesco’s Rhinoceros. Theatre of the Absurd, indeed.
They’re Coming to Take Me Away, Ha-Haaa - Napoleon XIV
That old pen can draw zigzags and circles.
and this is your brain on Palin…(cut to frying pan with egg)
The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the iniquities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he, who in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother’s keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who would attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know my name is the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon thee.
Robert Reich’s take on what’s goin down right now with the
bailoutrescuegiveaway,oh you know…that thing:http://tpmcafe.talkingpointsme…..nd_the_er/
Interesting counter to some of the more vocal (or would that visual?) voices around here.
and real homey and smiley– but she has a huge ego which may lead her off the ranch into the idiot gibberish territory.
It’s so tightly structured -
Thanks, Rahm.
Brilliant.
I wonder if McCain’s keepers allow him to read the newspapers or watch tv. I’ll bet they don’t – he’d probably blow a gasket if he did.
h/t da Bible or Samuel L. Jackson?
OT – Ted Stevens’ lawyers move for mistrial for prosecutorial misconduct. Judge is reportedly *pissed*, and could very well grant it.
prosecution tanked?
I found this by Ezra Klein (a fairly benign comment from same):
gawdamitey!
I woke up in a fetal position yet agin this morn, reluctantly crawl out to THIS???
There’s not enough coffee in the world to get my aging mind through without further trauma. My only thread to sanity is you dear dear pups.
Thanks Jane, Pach and ALL.
I’m maverick enough to stay sane through this, I think. mcsame, not so much.
BTW, for about 9 years now, I’ve been remembering over and over, that classic remark made by Bret Maverick in the old James Garner classic “Maverick” series:
“You can fool some of the people all the time,
and all of the people some of the time,
and those are pretty good odds.”
helllloooooo john! Itsss noooot workiing any morrrrrrrrre!
Palin has to swim upstream to reverse her falling poll numbers. She’s got the koolaid drinkers. She must appeal to low-information swing voters. What will appeal to them?
Biden will surely come off as the better choice for VP. Biden may not like it, but a time limit should work in our favor. Palin will struggle to fill her time allotment, while Biden will wish he had more time.
FYI,
Feingold (who voted no on the bailout) just emailed this to everyone who contributes to his Progressive Patriot’s fund.
WTF!?
Ok, disclosure, I’m one of those ignorant DFH Lefty blogging types Pearlstein of the WP disdains, so my question is: Is Mavereformick Sky Pilot Suspenders McCain Sarah Palin’s debate coach?
So, his plan it to run against the bill he supported and VOTED FOR? Brilliant!
why didn’t russ run for president?
man I love that man
McCain Says Bailout Bill He Supported “Puts Us On the Brink of Economic Disaster”
Surely it is a straight forward case of Republican say one thing do another and assume that no one will call you on it.
it is multi leveled tactical strategy…errrr.
OfT, Jane fyi, CNBC just showed a clip of Maria Bartiromo interviewing Palin about off shore drilling BEFORE McCain selected her as the veep. Sarah compliments BOTH McSane and Obama about the “evolution,” of their openness to off shore drilling.
It’s a bi-partisan Palin that I had never seen.
Remember yesterday that he said he often gets advice from Palin? I think this is the result. Not only is he confused about what he’s talking about regarding the bailout, he goes into an even further confusing diatribe about unrelated bills.
no – he’s sent a large percentage of his top lobbyist/staffers to do the prep work.
Just an honest mistake /*s
perris – If she does as you pose, in a Debate, that’s called the Tackling Dummy Strategy – Biden will shove her all over the Issue Field tonight.
I agree that she’ll be short-leashed, but she has some major challenges, no matter what she does, such as -
- She’s not going to become a Rational and Sensible Thinker by Tonight
- She has to Create the Impression of Vice-Presidential Authority without being able to Understand the Issues
- The Issues We are dealing with are So Big now, that her Magic Trick of Answering Fact-Based Questions by Orgasming into the Glittering Generality, ignoring the facts, Won’t Work
She’s Sells on Fantasy, but the Country is Hurting Too Badly, and Wants to Buy on Facts.
Look for a Victory for Joe Biden and Common Sense tonight!
let US remember little Johnnie McStoopit…will NEVER BE IN ECONOMIC COLLAPSE…..he saw to that when he dumped his first crippled wife for Cindy Lou the young HEIRESS
Did anyone notice the break in the middle of the clip when he stops and then says “well” and starts answering a totally different question?
It’s like the voices in his head started talking to him or something.
lol, i was just reading that. wish he’d stood up with sanders, but he is one of the few i think who voted “no” for good reason. and i’m thankful for that.
Agree, great man.
He did run in the primaries. IMHO, Edwards and Obama probably crowded him out. He just didn’t jolt the electorate. Married and divorced twice, that probably didn’t help.
He’s a really smart guy. I think liberals desperately need him in the Senate.
TIE FLOOOOSEY and GRAMPS to BOOOOOSH….the last 8 years speak loud and clear…debate over…..rinse lather repeat 1000X they LOVE BOOSHIE
the only time salmon swim upstream, they spawn and then throw they-selves on grizzly banquet table. eh? she preggers agin?! whu?
now see? this nonsenselahgic is easy……
Go Biden!!! Just don’t act like a grizzly. ya don’t have-ta. ;->
bom dia pups
hope all had a peaceful rest last night.
PUPPY CHIP???
This guy is soooo NOT Ronald Reagan. Can we please get Mrs. Reagan to endorse Obama…please, please, please.
howdy missed you last night, almost had to swear off the LAKE till election nite…so many CRITICS so little time
how about just Ron and his sister!
hey kewl. she was FOR everlootion, before she wuz agin it, of a sort, as it were…
more coffee…… ooogh.
big question, will gramps mind hold together till Nov4th ?
And to you. good morning. What’s your great thought for the day of the debate?
fyi – on today’s schedule for the house of representatives:
nothing yet on the house rules committee website, so it looks as though reports that the house would take up the sellout bill tomorrow may be correct – but we should probably keep an eye on the rules committee website.
Can we please get Mrs. Reagan to endorse Obama…please, please, please.
She has already, though very reluctantly, endorsed McSame. Not until he was officially the candidate though. Johnny lost the Reagans when he dumped his first wife.
According to the Rolling Stone article, they never forgave him, and had nothing to do with him after that.
http://www.rollingstone.com/ne…..ohn_mccain
Ifill must stay away from pointed questions about Privacy Rights. Abortion – Palin has the canned answer – Up to the States – overturn Roe v Wade.
Remember when Dubya avoided answering the overturning of Roe v Wade question?
Palin’s interviews that I have seen lead me to think she has some sort of undiagnosed learning disability. I’m no expert, just dabbled in it awhile ago owing to my son’s mild learning problems, but that experience led me to look for signs in others. Palin seems unable to organize her thoughts on a real time basis. So she falls back on key phrases and generalities which she repeats endlessly. When she is prepared in advance, as in her acceptance speech and the gotcha ploy in the Alaska gov debate, then she appears coherent & her charisma rules the day.
I think she’ll have several of those prepared gotchas for tonight’s debate and worry that one or more will shove Biden into a long winded crackup.
Pin Palin/and Gramps to Shrub…on every issue…she will be back on her heels
WHY DID JOHN vote with W 95% of the time this year?
RINSE
LATHER
REPEAT……………..she will sputter
Differing opinions, huh? Don’t sweat it (inner peace dictates that)
she was avery cynical choice, totally an UNKNOWN quantity…..and little quality
great legs though….killer legs….”g”
thanks….it made me quite sick
((Twain)) no earth shattering thoughts for the day, rather an epiphany that I don’t want an average or joe six-pack running the country. i want an intelligent, educated, elitist (/s) with an insatible curiosity and a rational mind to run the country.
Both of them.
Ezekiel 25:15.
saw a short piece on a blind girl here…who had to go to……………………………………………………………………………………….wait for it……………………………………………CHINA …for stem cell treatment to restore her vision… i shit you not
((((Sadly))))
Dubya had nothing but canned answers for his debates and he won anyway. IMHO, he got his ass kicked six times, but the media said he was a beer cheese whiz cowboy.
Ian has a brand new post at the mothership entitled: “Warren Buffett Talks Up His Own Interests By Talking Up the Bill”
hahahhahahahahahahahahaha
and make sure he is damn perfect
Yup. I’m not at all sanguine about tonight’s debate, or the aftermath, whatever happens tonight.
money talks bullshit…………………..looses
I have to take a break from the econ posts. I need to focus on positive energy this morning and that topic just brings out my inner angry hippie
me too…im done with them …talk about a no win situation
This country is in too much trouble to go cute and folksy. Joe six pack got us into this and a bunch of other messes and why? Many americans thought of him as a cool guy to have a beer with. fuck that noise, I don’t want to have a beer with my president.
did you see the youtube of her bathing suit thingy at the beuty pageant?
I do not think she had an attractive bod
OT, but what’s that at this point?!
Earlier this week, I sent our musician sonny the yootoob clip of bootie queen playin’ her lil’ flaut.
He fwded it far & wide to his colleagues. called it “gold”. Provided a welcome break in the continuing miseries of this newest generation of professional musicians. Today’s economy can’t afford classical music, of course….
Please support your local orchestras and school music programs, folks. Otherwise we might end up with this sorta @%*# to listen to. *blergh*
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/…..30901.html
It is a complicated situation. Part of why I wasn’t here last night is that I was talking to my brother in law in London (who is a financial analyst). He explained as well he could what was happening and it is really a worldwide mess. I’m just to the point where I don’t see the point in crying over the fact that the cookies were stolen. We know they were stolen and we know who stole them but that doesn’t change the fact that the cookies are gone
its worse then that…as the moron fiddled ,they looted the treasury…..they got away with it,cause the peeps cared more about saving a woman who was BRAIN DEAD and in a coma for 10 years than they did about their economic futures…go figure
lol will do
pardon. but what’s left to lose? a mind is a terrible thing to have lost arreddy. NO! I’m not laughing! I’m scared witless by these… people!
she has no butt…..but if i had leggs like hers
I WOULD BE PRETZLEDENT of the USof A………”G”
People mistakenly think they want a prez who is just like them and Bush fooled them. I want a prez who is much smarter than I am in every way. Although I have to say that I could be the head of FEMA much better than what we have now.
she’s good with the gotcha’s, I didn’t think they would give her a bunch of those, now that you mention it, they will
also, they will have some nsa recordings of biden practicing and she will have some comebacks for answers they know he will use
I am not being facetious by the way
not to say it is not a valid point of discussion just saying that at some point (for me at least) I grow weary of the discussion
ya think she stayed at a holiday inn? omg… just awful.
Sarah Sixpack!
I agree with you 100%. It is really a shame to see where this country has gone vs where we could have been. But one can’t go forward if they are always looking back, right?
egads. the thought is just terrorizing.
i traded stocks for 8 years…THE BIG BOYS always win, cept the really stooopit ones…..small investors=ALWAYS the last to know…period
Sounds like McCain is taking lessons from Palin.
Yep. Change of subject– How is your class coming along?
yup lol
by George(lol) i got it….finally…still not adept…a 19 student sat with me for 1hr to tutor me………………..oy
This will cheer you up (via TPM) Just now from Obama’s campaign stop in Michigan;
i lived in london one year Russell Square….where does your bro live?…i love that city, and country
Now he believes he can bully and spin reality to see it his way.
As long as you get it. Sometimes (as I tell my students) the best explanation for something can come from the person standing up in front of the room and sometimes from theperson sitting next to you
i love the guy…..and he has BIG NADS…imo
what do you teach?
I feel that way about the debate, because I’ve concluded that it’s not what really happens that matters, but what the pundits say happened. Why else would “There you go again” be the greatest line in the history of presidential debates? Hopefully, the pundits are actually fed up and pissed off at the McCain campaign though.
Must go, reluctantly, pups.
Anyone wanna hep us schlep a bunch of horrifically rusted old 4th-generation metal garden stakes to recycling with us?
Gee. u sure? It’s actually rather therapeutic to heave them, javelin-like, into the huge bin. female age 67, and arm like iron yeehaw. stay back outta the way sarah, if ya know whut’s good for ya. Sometimes my aim gits a wobble to it when i think too much.
cause they NEEEEEEEEEEEEEEDED to start the RAYGUN REVOLUTION……….”g”
Kensington. we have an apartment there because that is where mr wobbs grew up (LOL not in Kensington)
keep on truckin…and smilin….”g”
I, too, am serious.
Have any of you ever personally dealt with a person whose mind has run off the rails? I have. It fell to me to 3 times commit to psychiatric hospitals a sibling who was/is 5 years older than I. After the first time I began an intensive study to learn all I could about mental illness. That was 1958 during which time the belief was that there was a single traumatic key which, when discovered, could “cure” the illness. (Bunk!)
Anyway, the relevant point with McCain is the fragmentation of his thought processes. He does not realize that what he is saying is not normal.
In my sibling’s case, I learned over time to gauge the nearness of the next commitment by the decrease in her ability to control her thought processes. The more fragmented they became, the closer to a psychotic breakdown she became.
I have no credentials in the field of mental illness, just experience with the tragic, ruinous effects on the ill person and all others touched by them.
This clip of McCain is seriously disconnected. EW, please keep this subject alive for I fear we will witness further disintegration not too far in the future.
love it……..
MSNBC I think it was, had the speech and I was watching that part. I thought I heard the “fire in the belly” we’ve been looking for in that speech!
as a TA (grad student) teach German
as part time lecturer german and portuguese (language and culture)
thanks hon. beats the alternative. got an ivy league masters for THIS?! oy
We’ll be here when you get back. LOL
That’s good talk. Where’s the walk? Does not jibe with the $800 billion bailout and its gaping flaws – like full Paulson control, nothing to prevent it from being a restocking of Lake Fatcat for another go at overfishing.
Yeah, very fire in the belly. more please!
i have postulated that he is taking Vicodan ,for short spurts of aggressive talking, like the debate…i used to know a surgeon who took it for operating purposes, said it gave him energy and clarity…it is a stop gap
agreed. had close relative with advanced heart failure. clear as a bell one moment. loony as a lamp post the next, poor thing. lil’ jonny has NO bidness being handed the reins to this country.
Expelling words in a barely audible whisper/cough, “Horseshit!, …Horshit!” /s
We will have to see if he walks the walk. I also didn’t like this bail out bill but being that i’m not omniscient, I wait to see and hear more.
have you spent time in Germany too…underated country imo…food sucks though
Has McCain had a stroke recently?
From what my bro-in-law said to me last night, I have to say my anger has not abated but it is nonetheless tempered
the bail out thingy…………..who knows what goes on behind the closed doors…yes the plutocrats have the keys to the kingdom
maye TIAs
McCain was amped up for the debate. He was on something. He had the stamina of an an old horsehit.
food totally sucks. I lived there for almost three years in northern Germany (Niedersachsen- Lower saxony) in a little university town of Oldenburg
maybe TIAs
makes you wonder with all the facial twitches and the crankiness and seeming confusion
yup,made him more pugilistic too…imo
forgot to add that I LOVED germany. Would totally go back andlive there as long as I was in the North
LOL stamina of horseshit…I must use that line
must have been very pretty…where i live in Tn …reminds me of Germany..its very pretty, hope i dont have to leave(mcDope admin)
I mentioned yesterday that there is a video at America Blog of McC in slow motion that is really creepy. A doctor is asked what he thought and said that McCain appeared to have had a mini-stroke. If you watch the video you have to believe that something happened because he is clearly disoriented after.
TIAs
trans ischemic attacks
brain farts
you won’t. Besides if McCain wins, mr wobbs wants to go back to London and sorry as cool as london is, it is terribly polluted and I don’t want to have black bogeys again LOL
That is past disturbing.
I hear ya. I mean, what choice do we have? A third party vote is a vote for McPalin. But still, the FISA, the bailout. I was on Obama campaign e mail list. I had to uncheck the box for receiving email forwards from fellow supporters. I deleted many thousands of emails pleading with Obama not to cave on FISA and retroactive immunity.
All we have is the hope that Obama can stop the bleeding of our Country. I’ll bet Paulson spends all the money by January. I still hope that The House will stop the bill.
I saw that video todays video shows that its not McCain having just one bad day. I worry that this maybe McCain’s new permanent state of being. If so McCain will cancel all future debates.
707…..yeahhhhhh,my face actually got dirty every day…wierd…and the diesel trucks and cars…….yucko
We have to temper expectations of perfection. Human beings are fallible and capable (as we have seen) of poor judgement. Each person has to decide for themselves the path they will take to save our democracy and for me, it must be broader issues that help us get our foot in the door and not my very liberal (hell who am I kidding- socialist) issues. We have to get in the door and then we can push someone in behind him is my argument and one i am perfectly comfortable with
ok off to study……….have a wonderful fall day peeps….new wine and popcorn tonite………………….”g”
LOL exactly. So I’m not itching to go back. But at least he is considering equla weight of us going back to Brasil. He could teach at the british school there like he did before we married
have fun
one more thing
WE MUST think of those MUCH LESS FORTUNATE THAN US
some who are homeless or about to be
here 72,000 people are months behind in electric bills with winter commin
keep fighting
That is just awful news. but with the costs of everything going up and wages being stagnant (if there are wages to be had) this is just going to get worse
Ironic that Clinton’s failings – Glass Steagal repeal, NAFTA – were failures caused by capitulation to right wing idealogues. Now the right blames Clinton for the shitstorm they made with the deregulation they clamored for.
Obama should take heed. Does he? Doesn’t look that way.
Jane – Wouldn’t it be interesting to get Dr. Justin Frank’s (”Bush on the Couch”) assessment of “Palin on the Couch”?
Can you imagine trying to take direction from this guy? No wonder Sarah is confused.
I was thinking his as well. They could use this on TV commercials down South to confuse the “low information” voters who would think “John McCain opposed the bail-out…I saw it on TV”.
Gee. I think I had missed any endorsement…it must have been very subtle. I have known the stuff about the first wife; they are friends, etc. Thanks for the refresher.
Isn’t it against Parliamentary rules to merge “unrelated measures” onto a Bill? And even worse, wouldn’t it void the bill if one stripped out all the original measure? In a sense they are amending “nothing” and violating the Constitution by originating a spending bill through subterfuge. I would think that this bill means nothing…and that it would have to be voted on again after the House passes it to make it Constitutional.
My apologies to Jane. I switch back and forth to/from Empty Wheel so credited this article to EW instead of Jane. Sorry, Jane. Keep up the good work.
On the Couch
Dr. Shrink: Tell me, John. Why do you always speak first before considering what to say and how to say it? Is it that you’re afraid to think? If I’m right, why are you afraid to think?
McCain: I’m not afraid of anything, doc. My years as a POW taught me never to fear anything. I just don’t like to think about stuff. People have always made fun of me — calling me slow and stupid. So, I don’t think. I just act before anybody else does and leave the boring thinkers in my dust. Now look at me. I’m going to be elected President in a month.
