I don’t think she necessarily wanted “women” charged…but she did want the city to obtain reimbursement for the “kits”. Palin was mayor and the new Police Chief she installed instituted the policy. Now something like this involves fiscal policy…it would have to be cleared through his superior, the mayor.

The initial policy didn’t include seeking funds for the insurer. Yet THAT policy was changed about two years along. One has to wonder WHY? All of a sudden something made the Chief realize there was an issue? That trying to obtain recompense from a woman could be problematical? If there were no cases of rape when the original policy was in force, then why change it to include “payment by insurer”? I can only think that an actual rape occurred and they tried to charge the woman but she refused or couldn’t afford it…thus they decided to go after her insurer.

THAT deceision, of course, could not have occurred without the Mayor’s involvement. Again, it was not only a fiscal decision, but had legal repercussions. Once again, that would point to the mayors knowledge and involvement.

Lastly, wasn’t Wasilla one of the few towns which was “noticed” as having this policy…a situation that was ended when the Alaskan legislature banned the practice? WHO brought that policy to the attention of legislators? Was the Rep. from Wasilla (no friend of Palin) a co-sponsor of the bill? Usually such policies are not even known about until an actual incident exposes them. So what happened here?

The local Wasilla paper requested that the City Clerk examine billing records that might indicate any charges for “rape kits”, or reimbursements, and found none. But those records only go back to almost exactly the time that the State enacted the ban on such policies…so there would have been no charges afterwards. But the earlier files had been “cleansed”. The Wasilla clerk says such purging is, of course, “a matter of policy”.

If I was a rape victim from a small town, I would never appear in a national ad, no matter how good the cause. Maybe I am a coward, but it would make me feel way to vulnerable and exposed. I think the Obama camp should try to find local persons who witnessed the effects of Palin’s rape kit malarkey on clients, friends, etc.

This is a sharp move if true on Obama’s part.

Palin continues to be the cutesy doll of the puritans.

Time to great her to the big leagues.
*If you’ve been watching the self proclaimed PITBULL WITH LIPSTICK was silent as Obama made reference to lipstick on a pig. McCain came out demanding an appology from Obama for Palin.

*Then recently Katie interviewing Palin/McCain asked Palin if she would like to retract or appoligize for her announcing she & McCain would attack Pakistan if there were confirmed targets of Al Qaida. Palin was silent again, Mccain interrupted in anger and answered Katie. Only then Palin chimed in with “yeah, what he said”. John might be heading for one of those volcanic eruptions we have all heard of.

It seems incredible that with little people know of Palin that they are so devoted. Maybe it is just the cutesy doll, or she portrays she is a christian warrior and that is all she needs to be for the right wing?

It is like some of these big GOP’ers writting poorly of Palin. They will vote for her against Obama in the end. They came to support McCain the Maverick when the said they expressed disdain for him.

Is this worse than McCain’s ad? “The McCain campaign is looking for a survivor of a botched abortion.”? Advertising is a tough business but people are much more likely to listen to people then a bunch of bullets. If you want to win - you need help from people that don’t want these anti-victim policies in our government.

you know, they could do the add without an actual survivor…it could be voice over and generic; though a woman survivor who was billed could make it better, a woman survivor from another state would be fine.

Didn’t I just this morning see a Planned Parenthood ad with just such a theme? A woman named Gretchen was in the ad, and noted Palin’s policy of charging for the exams, with McCain’s face in the ad.
