I was gonna to stay away from the “let them eat trief” jokes. Honest. But food that’s treif–meaning not kosher, unclean–got that designation because it’s neither fish nor fowl, so to speak.
Like how last night John McCain and Joe Lieberman, accompanied their wives, were neither of the people nor for the people as they dined on pricy entrees at an "opulent hotel" Saturday night, per HufPo, while Barack Obama met with the Congressional Black Caucus.
Instead of joining his colleagues on either side of the aisle as they burnt the midnight oil trying to rescue the American economy from doom-ridden cliches, McCain, the Republican candidate for president, his party-pooping pal Lieberman and their legally sanctioned co-habitants dined at Cafe Mozu at the Madarin Oriental Hotel where entrees start at mere $19 and include:
Braised pork belly with sweet potato puree, baby onions, and goat cheese polenta; and "Chef’s Daily Bento Box" featuring asparagus soup, black sea bass with bok choy, string beans, snow pea sprouts and aromatic lemongrass broth, wagyu strip loin with young spinach fried swordfish chili sauce, organic garden greens.
Because $19-$32 menu items like white asparagus veloute with cherry blossoms and confit of Grimaud farm duck are what all the folks eat on Main Street in Smalltown, America. Well, actually with prices going up, the burger special at the corner coffee shop may soon cost that.

These guys are just cartoons, aren’t they? “I must rush back to our nation’s capital to save the economy.” Instead, he is stuffing his face at the kind of restaurant us poor slobs will never see the inside of. Were McCain and Lizardman wearing vests with dollar signs on them and smoking big cigars?
Sounds very middle American to me.
Isn’t this how the little people eat?
Did Cindy pay?
