Rumor has it that the Obama team has been studying the debates Sarah Palin was in during her run for the Governorship in Alaska and in those she shows nothing of the incompetence she has shown in her 3 TV interviews. She has also not been out on the stump all that much. Apparently, the thinking in the Obama camp is that she is deliberately setting very low expectations and will come into the debate informed, cogent in her responses and aggressive. After all, even a mediocre performance at this point would stun the punditry and have everyone all glowing again. So, be prepared for this on Thursday. It would seem that Sarah may have more guile than anyone has given her credit for thus far.

It takes real wit to do satire, and really good satire especially. Methinks the lady has exactly no wits to use for it.

She might not be suited for the role of vice president but she could still make it in show business. As an inanimate prop, perhaps?

At any rate, Alaska is one country she can find on a map.

I watched a youtube of AK Gov debate that Palin participated …… the question was about paying for benefits for same sex partners and amazingly she was very coherent….. but still had her snotty condescending attitude….

I’m not too sure of anything just offering a different motive for the ‘high’ setting of Palin as a great debater. Besides, it is one thing to debate or talk about stuff you are comfortable and familiar with and a whole other thing to try to BS your way after cramming for a short period of time.

Note how Lehrer early on stepped on obama’s solid punch to McCain’s nose by directing Obama to tell it to Mccain. Obama had said that Mccain said the fundamentals of the economy are strong.

So, after he first prez debate, it seems the Plan is Obama plays good cop, Biden plays bad cop. (Surely you are familiar with the routine.) Are you saying that the roles get reversed after the veep debate? Somehow I don’t see Obama playing bad cop. Not presidential, dontcha know.

I’m a lot more interested to see what SNL does with Obama. They almost always parody the Presidential debates, and McCain is going to be easy for them, but what are they going to do with Obama? If they have him agreeing with McCain on everything, it won’t really capture the spirit of the debate. The only point in the debate where I thought McCain and Obama were both equally mock-worthy was the dueling bracelet exchange.

If anything, I was suggesting that McCain and his advisers perceive her as a prop, maybe not inanimate but when she is kept sequestered most of the time the result is the same.

i am hoping biden’s time in politics has prepared him for the landsharkminefilled debate. i see him having to navigate a tricky landscape but if he does, he can nail it and her.

Biden knows that Obama will not cover for him if he blows it, like he did on the clean coal issue. Biden is no dummy, he’ll do just fine.

Maybe. My take is that this has the potential to be a total train wreck for either side. Both Palin and Biden have a penchant for making jaw-dropping gaffes. Palin’s problems could be made worse if she feels like she’s in over her head (which she is), and Biden’s could be worse if seems cocky (which he is). I honestly don’t know how it’s going to go down.
