The McCain campaign claims that campaign manager Rick Davis separated from his lobbying firm, Davis Manafort, in 2006:
In fact, the allegation is demonstrably false. As has been previously reported, Mr. Davis separated from his consulting firm, Davis Manafort, in 2006. As has been previously reported, Mr. Davis has seen no income from Davis Manafort since 2006. Zero. Mr. Davis has received no salary or compensation since 2006. Mr. Davis has received no profit or partner distributions from that firm on any basis — weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, bi-monthly, quarterly, semi-annual or annual — since 2006. Again, zero. Neither has Mr. Davis received any equity in the firm based on profits derived since his financial separation from Davis Manafort in 2006.
This record, which I retrieved from the Virginia State Corporations Commission shows that Davis is still an officer/director of Davis Manafort, Inc. He is also currently the clerk/treasurer of Davis Manafort Partners, Inc. (Click on the image at left to view a larger version.)
Corporate officers/directors don’t necessarily get paid and don’t necessarily "receive equity" based on the profits of the corporation. But whether Davis has been paid, or received any equity based on Davis Manafort’s profits since 2006 is a separate question from whether he retains a connection to the firm.
The public record shows that Davis has an ongoing business relationship with the firm Davis Manafort, Inc–a firm mortgage Freddie Mac paid $15,000 a month up until the government took it over last month, purely because of Davis’s proximity to Senator McCain.
If you are still a director of a company, you have not separated from it. The McCain camp is lying again.

Good on you!
You’re in the tank, Beyerstein.
Is this a revision to the revision? I thought he guit, finally, last month. Contrary to earlier revisions.
Just when you think you’re out, they pull you back in…
McCain’s campaign consistently achieves an unbelievable level of naked mendacity. And he wants us to believe he isn’t another Bush?
Isn’t he a PWO?
anything to indicate that he got $$$$, contrary to what they said? i thought they were saying he didn’t take any $$$. now they did use the word “separated.” in what respect, charlie?
Nice work, Lindsay.
Have you all seen this email tat’s floating around?

McCain is toast.
Maybe Marion will serve him for breakfast one morning.
ian at the mothership
That’s not the baffling part, though…the baffling part is that he seems to want to be toast.
@Beerfart Liberal, #7
Good question. The New York Times story says that 6 anonymous sources with direct knowledge of the arrangement said that Davis Manafort got the money and that they got it specifically because of Rick Davis’s access to McCain. We also know that Rick Davis was personally paid to be the head of the Homeownership Association, a creature of Fannie and Freddie, until approximately 2005. According to the Times’ anonymous sources the money to Davis Manafort was the continuation of RD’s HA contract.
excellent fact finding, Lindsay. good job!
a little long, some puncutaation problems, otherwise EXCELLENT. Most emails I see are right wing trash.
McMelba?
McBurned
In most corporations, the role of treasurer is pretty hands-on and important.
Since he’s the treasurer, he sure won’t be able to say that he didn’t know where the money Freddie was giving to Davis Manafort went.
Rick Davis’ lame-o excuse is that he was paid $30K/month, but that he didn’t actually do anything. WTF?
