Speaking of picking up the tab, the Dodd plan has what appears to me to be a major flaw:

The contingent shares to be received by the Secretary under paragraph (1) may, at the determination of the Secretary, include shares of the financial institution, its parent company, its holding company, any of its subsidiaries, or any other entity which is owned, controlled, or managed by such institution.

So if, say, Bank of America needs funds, taxpayers get in return shares of Countrywide Financial, which is effectively bankrupt?

The McCain campaign is desperate and out of ammunition, that’s all. They will do anything to keep from having to discuss the issues. Doing so would only reveal to the voters that McCain would be four more years of Bush policies and worse.
