Vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin refuses to say whether the Vice President belongs to the executive branch. There are a number of ways to parse Palin’s non-remarks: i) She has no idea, or, alternatively, ii) She’s building on Dick Cheney’s legacy and preemptively declaring the constitutional status of the Office of the Vice President a secret:
Palin did not say what branch of government she believes the vice president’s office is part of in those remarks. Instead, Palin said she and Republican presidential nominee John McCain had discussed what responsibilities she would take on as his second-in-command.
“My mission is going to be energy, security and government reform and another thing near and dear to my heart: It’s going to be helping families who have special needs and children with special needs,” said Palin.
Joe Biden says unequivocally that the Vice President belongs to the executive branch.

Digg it.
Well, I believe she has stated that she has no idea what the VP does so it would not surprise that she doesn’t know whether the VP office is part of the Executive or Legislative branches.
Actually it’s probably questionable if she knows how many branches of government there are legally.
I happen to believe the vp is in both, since he can cast a vote in the senate when there is a tie, he is a member of the legistlive branch at that time (but at that time only)
Not if we can help it Sarah.
She just lies. She can’t help it, she just lies. All the time.
Everything she says is a lie.
Dugg.
But you do know that you can put some information into the body of the Digg, explaining what the article is about? Repeating the title really doesn’t tell anything to someone at Digg who might not be familiar with FDL or the Silo and the other partners.
Just saying is all.
she is a clone of cheney, they changed a chromosome, that’s all
That is why she is fully qualified to be a Republican candidate.
Thanks for the tip.
Thanks for the diggs, folks.
OT: According to Todd Zywicki, Kieth Olbermann (like the progressive blogosphere) was incorrect when he scoffed at McCain for claiming that he would fire SEC Chairman, Christopher Cox. Olbermann claimed that a president lacks authority to fire the chairman of the SEC, but professor Zywicki contends that the president can fire the SEC chairman from his/her chairmanship but not from the commission itself. Zywicki make that claim at one of the top blogs for legal scholars and is probably correct.
They put lipstick on it.
T-
Ask her who’s buried in Grant’s tomb.
(H/T Groucho Marx)
But, but, but…today McCain claimed that it he wanted the “FEC” chairman to resign. See EW.
Moose in the headlights look.
Does anyone know the best, surest way to drive a stake through the heart of this question once and for all? Is there a lawsuit that could force the Court to rule on the question, or would it require an Amendment?
And she’s claiming her husband can’t be subpoenoed because he IS PART of HER Executive branch here in Alaska.
I’ve seen this one, and I wonder whether she was putting forward Cheney’s creative interpretation of the Constitution or whether she just didn’t know the answer, and like McCain vis a vis insulting Zapatero, just thought she’d wing it rather than cop to not knowing how to answer the question. I think it’s the latter.
Veeeerrrrrry Intellesting!
FunnyD
A little while back (2006), a professor of psychology at University of Manitoba published a book called The Authoritarians. You can get a free download online.
I didn’t read it, but my husband read a good deal of it out loud to me. He was trying to figure out what was behind the hubris of the Bush Administration. Very interesting stuff.
This woman. This Palin person. She really reminds me of what the author said about these types of people.
We call it lying. They just have a vision of the world wherein they will say or do anything to get their way. No remorse. No thought to consequences for other people.
Either way, she’s completely Unfit for Command.
But given that the McCain campaign has been stuffing her with talking points like a goose for foie gras, it’s hard to believe she doesn’t have _some_ inkling that obfuscation is the best policy.
FunnyD
Oh, sorry, the author is Bob Altemeyer.
I forget, is that the definition of sociopath or psychopath?
FunnyD
but didn’t McCrazy buy off on that interpretation as well, saying in effect, “well, in that case, I’d ask him to resign?”
imo, it was still a case of McCrazy shooting off his mouth without knowing what the hell he was talking about.
I almost can’t wait till the next time I’m served with a subpoena:
“F*** you! I’m a Republican, so you can stuff your subpoena! Dick Cheney told me to tell you to go f*** yourself!”
That’ll go over real well.
(I am not a Republican.)
our congress opened the gates of hell when they refused to jail meyers for defying subpeona
that really has to be addressed, though they have waited far too long
It is an interesting question. As far as I can tell, the Constitution doesn’t say that the VP is in the Executive Branch or has any “work” to do there, unless the POTUS gives him responsibility…while waiting for something to happen to the President…It seems to say that the VP’s duties are to replace the POTUS should he become incapacitated, and that he counts votes, and that he is a tie-breaker in the Senate. He could just as well live in Alaska and then be called to replace the POTUS or break ties or count votes.
As far as Todd Palin goes…that is a bunch of crap.
Sociopath.
I believe they are called sociopaths and I have a new conjugation I have used, to describe it as a verb, it is sociopathy
[pronounced, so see OP athy]
She’s Dick Cheney in a skirt. Her job will be to continue Cheney’s work destroying the constitution and putting loyalists in every agency.
I owe you some soda
I’d have to google that. I’m a people watcher, but not a psychologist. Yeah, but something crazy.
don’t let him know he is a “vote counter”, that will mean we lose any and every election
“it’s not who you vote for, it’s who counts the votes”…I am not certain who said that but there it is
I don’t think she’s crazy at all. I think she has an agenda that she’s got underwraps…and the controllers of the Republicans want her, thinking they can control her.
Clinton is right. Don’t underestimate her.
If I ever get the chance to collect, we’ll have soda+
found it, it was stalin
I think that has been proven twice.
Here’s the link to his website. You can download the whole book, or by chapter.

A former Annapolis graduate addressed congress to inform them that he lied to them for the greater good. His name is Ollie North. maybe someone should ask these R candidates if they think they are lying for their perception of a greater good.
Heh — I’d like to see the rationale — he was not an employee, right? He was a ‘consultant’?
He certainly did have a way with words.
“If we only punish the guilty, what will the innocent fear?”
well, twice in the presidential elections all by themselves, then there was siegler and others
Thank you.
FunnyD
gotta be precise with those pathololologies
Hey RonD,
I tried that whole ignore the subpoena thing. The Sheriff came.
Hey Rondog! With the changes at your house, are you still in school? Still playing in the band?
OT, but I need to be sure that my understanding of the ads is correct. If I click on an ad, that means that the ad buyer pays FDL more, right? Or it improves their chances of getting ads, increasing the income?
Cuz that REGENT UNIVERSITY AD that just showed up on my screen, offering me a “Top Ten Online Degree” for “Christian Leadership to Change the World” will be MUCH LESS annoying if I know that repeatedly clicking on it (from a live boot Linux CD so I can’t catch anything) will cause the FDL coffers to be filled a bit more.
Unfortunately, that’s the premise our gov’mint has been operating on, IMO.
Well, Congress (Nancy Pelosi – your nation is calllllinnng youuuu) could find Rove in Contempt of Congress, before they scurry home for recess, that would be a ’start’ (feeble, late, insuffifienct) but NOT doing it will REALLY send a MESSAGE.
Do ya think Con-grass ‘get’s’ it?
Of course, they have other things on their minds. Like protecting THEIR personal ASSets …
Ding!
it’s what I’ve heard called The Church of the Higher Truth. The catechism goes like this:
“We are right, our cause is just, so whatever we have to do or say to serve that cause is thus right and just.”
Why IS it that we can’t compel people who are subpoena’d to come and testify — even if they have to plead the Fifth? Why is that? The whole system has been turned into a joke because of all of these Rethugs refusing. What’s the point? If I were some Mafioso or drug lord, I’d get my lawyer to say that I was availing myself of the same deal as Rove, etc. — I refuse to testify and you can’t make me…nyah, nyah, nyah.”
I was taught that the term psychopath was replaced by sociopath but both were seen as pejorative and so were replaced by the phase Antisocial Personality Disorder in the DSM IV. Psychopathy still has a legal definition (because lawmakers don’t follow progress in psycholoty I suppose). I also found this distinction under psychopathy in wiki which I had not really seen before:
Oh yeah. being Grandad at home, a student at school, and gigging on the weekends. One of the reasons I’ve been so scarce lately. Been lurking a lot, but not really had time to add much to the conversation. How’re you, darlin’?
Not heard that before. My working understanding has been A), a sociopath does not relate to others as human beings, and B) a psychopath cannot distinguish reality from delusion.
They my have changed them on me. Been awhile since I had psychology.
Thanks, hugh.
Looks kind of like the difference between metaphysics and epistomology.
So…I’ll go with the longer word. Just so’s syllables won’t go to waste…
FunnyD
Ah, yes, that’s the distinction I sort of remembered.
Some “labels” are “perjorative” for good reasons, imo.
FunnyD
sounds like the lead in to the first verse of one excellant song
She does nor believe in reality, She is a Fundamentalist and God tells what to do. Todd will help her with that. She would make Bushco privatization the change/reform policy further politicising DOJ. More Regent University types will be recruited.
Church social programs will get all out funding while the social safety net already tiny would be cut. Religious school will also be more fully funded with vouchers and public schools will be further tied by testing requirements That has started already as Treasury cash is alloted to buy up bad debt on Wall street.
Big pharma, Big oil will get more subsidies. And the “war on terror” will get a trillion to retool the military as it puts out political fires that flare like Pakistan, N. Korea. Afghanistan, Iran, Central Asia, Indonesia, and any Muslim Nation. “Friendly governments” will get payola to buy weapons and helpfull training from Isreal, the USA and Central and South American advisors for Torture.
All Dem candidates will br vetted by the DOJ and charges will be filled to smear them. The jail systems and the domestic police forces will get windfall funding to keep the dissent down to a dull roar.Video cameras like those in London will be installed as part of the traffic light system
Alternative energy will not be funded for R&D. Their will not be a carbon tax. Offshore drilling will be subsidized and ANWAR will be opened up.
As global temperatures rise end time groups will be gathering for lift off at giant mega churches. As hurricanes and typhoons increase in intensity and coastal area like the USA Gulf coast are floode with salt water food prices will leap as speculators buy up futures. McInsane and Palin will tour the world in joy knowing that the non christians are getting their due. AS the ozone layer melts and the oceans heat up the snowpacks will melt more quickly and all the major rivers of the world will flood like the upper Missisippi did this year, Most of the richer soils will be washed away and desrts all over the globe will increase their expansions exponentially. Daed zones in the oceans will expand dramatically as the oxygen demands increase. The resource and food wars will grow. Food rationing like WWII will be instituted to the growing dispossed.
New gated communities will be growing. Some will be called safe farms to keep in the poor.
Big Brother has arrived.
Oh, pretty peachy. The prodigal son is working on my last good nerve. Oh, yeah. You guys talking about subpeonas made me cringe, ’cause he’s down at the courthouse right now trying to wiggle his way out of some long neglected infraction. Seatbelt violation, but didn’t serve the community service. I borrowed money from my mom to pay the bail for other DL deal that he didn’t handle. Am waiting to see if he calls me before I put that check in the mail. I might need the $ today.
Sorry for the long version, but you asked. (painful grin from here).
McCain once again lying in ad he relased yesterday linking Obama to ex Fannie Mae CEO.

my link button is not functioning
OT – former Representative Mark Foley gets off:
lemme re-phrase that.
Foley will *not* be prosecuted, because Foley, and Congress, denied access to critical data, to the extent that prosecutors were forced to conclude that they had insufficient evidence to proceed with criminal charges.
Three words:
Obstruction. Of. Justice.
It’s all really simple. I’ll explain. Republicans think it is fine to torture people to get information, even false information, just as long as it’s not them. Similarly, they think laws are for others, not them. But if someone ever forces them to obey the law, they want its full protection. See easy to understand.
the lying will get far worse too, this is just the opening rounds and rove is alive and well
EX:
Herding wolves/black bears until the point of exhaustion and then shooting them from a helicopter = “hunting” quail in a box.
Yep. I’d say she’s a DICK in a skirt.
Sounds like he would get along well with my oldest. (cringe)
Thank you, Hugh..we are back to IOKIYAR…right? The United States is NOT a nation of laws…it’s a nation of (Rethug) men(and women). If you are Rethug, you make the laws(see Nixon, Richard, “If the president does it, it is not illegal”).
AKA “The Spanish Inquisition“
As regards that whole ignore-the-subpoena thing, why aren’t those who defy subpoenas arrested? (Actually, that was a rhetorical question. Let me rephrase.) If those who issue the subpoenas would grow a pair, they would see to it that those who continue to thumb their noses at the process were arrested. I’m guessing that the photo-fingerprint-booking deal would tend to yield some results. At the very least, it would be good entertainment for a whole lot of us.
Just sayin’…
One question that really hasn’t been addressed here is whether Todd Palin would be part of the legislative branch or the executive branch
How Selfish of Pitbull Palin.
What is honorable about looking trying to get government dollars for special needs children, when SHE HAS a special needs child?
This is self-serving in the phoniest way.
Would she be doing this great humanitarian (gimme money) work if she DID NOT have such a child?
Compassion is when you do things for which you DON’T benefit personally.
Phony, phony, phony!!!
still a shame that they lie without conscious but at least not without repercussiona
Exactly. True Believers, capable of anything at all. Like the Inquisition, or the purveyors of the French Terror.
It’s a tough world for our kids. He’s too much like me. Now, my daughter is more like her father. Straight line all the way.
And reading about Foley just makes me sick. What a creep, and will he spend a minute in jail?
Uh, oh, I better back down and go make some tea.
sounds like your feeling better *g*
And…Foley just makes me sick. What a creep, and will he spend a minute in jail?
No. This is FL, where the laws are more like guidelines, and the only ironclad rule is Be a Good Neighbor. If you keep that one, there are no others.
Yes wobbs. Now you know why my immune system was low.
I think maybe your healing vibes helped.
But, weeks like the current one move me to urge you to stick with the kitties.
Argghhh, fer sure, Matey.
New Marcy post
My bet is, whatever branch enables him to blow off the subpoena du jour.
I’m on a juice fast for 40 days so i’m at a low point right now (massive toxins rolling out). But at least I can focus my disgust (feelings and thoughts) on McCain’s lying campaign.
Oh, you nasty boy.
What song is that from?
40 days? That seems like a long time.
I hope you stay healthy. The up side is there’s a weight loss side affect?
My sister is observing Ramadan with her partner, and I worry for her health.
It is a long time but my body really craved it so here I am. I drink a ton of fresh veggie and fruit juices and lots of water everyday and aside fromthe first few days of physical weakness, I feel pretty good
Okay, then. Strengthy vibes being sent your way.
You’re a better woman than I.
“…another thing near and dear to my heart: It’s going to be helping families who have special needs and children with special needs,” said Palin. Emphasis mine.
Oh my. This sounds just like the end of a beauty contestant’s platform.
Grit tv up
thanks. I gladly accept them. I fluctuate good and bad days but that is the toxins leaving. After roughtly 2 weeks, it is all pretty good.
It’s more like when sea slugs “copulate” – they eached exchanged gamete packets. Depending on their need or desire, each can either use it for food or reproduction. Eeyuck – I just made myself lose my appetite for lunch.
On another VP forecasting note: there is a cloud still hanging over the OVP
*dang fingers*
As I was saying – there is already a cloud over the OVP (h/t Fitzie). Now we have a candidate for the OVP who’s bringing her own cloud along with her all the way from Alaska. (:>
Palin’s ignorance is so wide in scope that it is pathetically dangerous.
Here’s what happened when, for the first time, she allowed softball questions from a sympathetic and screened audience in Grand Rapids.
“UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Governor Palin, there has been quite a bit of
discussion about your perceived lack of foreign policy experience. And I want to give you your chance. If you could please respond to that criticism and give us specific skills that you think you have to bring to the White House to rebut that or mitigate that concern.”
Okay…here comes her “specific skills”.
PALIN: “Well, I think because I’m a Washington outsider that opponents are
going to be looking for a whole lot of things that they can criticize and
they can kind of try to beat the candidates here, who chose me as his partner, to kind of tear down the ticket. But as for foreign policy, you know, I think that I am prepared and I know that on January 20th, if we are so blessed as to be sworn into office as your president and vice president, certainly we’ll be ready. I’ll be ready. I have that confidence. I have that readiness.”
Not even…we can see Russia from Alaska. Or I’ve been to Kuwait. Just the unsubstantiated bald statement that she’s ready. And the worst thing is she is “confident” she’s prepared!
http://www.crooksandliars.com/…..er-…
I think she knows perfectly well that VP is an executive position, but she doesn’t want to contradict that absurd claim Cheney is making with regard to his papers.
What’s the difference between a barnacle and a pig?
Lipstick!
That’s called pig ignorance where I live. Although I hate to malign good pigs everywhere.
