With the Secret Service initiating an investigation into the hacking of Sarah Palin’s Yahoo! account, the clue to the internet "griefer"s indentity may lie in the logs of CTunnel, a net proxy service with its server based in Chicago.
But law enforcement hasn’t gotten to them yet.
Proxys–known as "condoms" in the argot of the internet–are used to disguise an originating IP address. Gabriel Ramuglia, the founder of CTunnel, recognized his company’s URL in the screenshot’s of the Alaska governor’s hacked Yahoo! email.
In an interview with The Register, Ramuglia explained, "Since they were dumb enough to post a full screenshot that showed most of the [Ctunnel.com] URL, I should be able to find that in my log."
Ramulgia says he would be willing to turn over the logs to law enforcement if asked–which hadn’t happened as of the time of his interview with The Register. "As exciting as it is to be in the news, this is not the type of activity I can encourage by any means," says the 25 year-old internet entrepreneur.
But the CTunnel lead might end up being a dead end since hackers sometimes use more than one proxy condom to do their dirty work.

What I find funny (and not very surprising) is that the person who did this may not be caught for actually getting into Sarah Palin’s Yahoo email account, but be caught because they had to show off.
I do hope the fact that she used a personal, non-archived free email account to conduct some of her official business does not get lost in this. This is the same thing Rove and other Bush admin officials did to prevent their emails from being seen by investigators.
