McCain may not know how to send an email, but he’s an expert at umbrage:
"This is a shocking invasion of the Governor’s privacy and a violation of law," campaign manager Rick Davis said in a statement. "The matter has been turned over to the appropriate authorities and we hope that anyone in possession of these emails will destroy them. We will have no further comment."
Let’s see. Where have I seen this play run before? Thinking…thinking…ah, yes:
"This type of dirty politics has been a staple of the Lamont campaign from the beginning, from the nonstop personal attacks to the intimidation tactics and offensive displays to these coordinated efforts to disable our Web site," said Smith in a statement e-mailed to reporters Monday evening.
As speculation mounts that Palin might have been using a personal, unarchived email address for official business in order to avoid public record searches, I imagine the high dudgeon of the McPalin crew will work its way back to the Obama campaign somehow. By the time anyone figures out WTF really happened, damage done.
Tim Tagaris, call your office.

Oh well, she’s tanking. Throw her another anchor.
Nothing wrong with your memory, that’s for sure!
Now that you found it and put it up, I remember Short Rides little hissy fit.
Someone better call Dangerstein too.
A crank call will do.
so I wonder who the first person will be to ask mccain the following;
“how do you know the nsa didn’t get those emails and leak the story?…you do know they don’t need a warrant anymore, right?”
OH BABY!
Yes, maybe she can get a sense of what it feels like to have your privacy invaded, like when DHS has to read my e-mails. At least anon. told her. More courtesy than I’ll get from Mr. Homeland Security. Who shall also remain anon?
This smells of more “Playing the Victim” card. Do you think the McCain campaign would deliberately release the scrubbed emails in order to gain attention and keep playing the “Everyone is attacking little Sarah”?
WOOT!
Palin is getting HAMMERED on the Today show right now.
Picking apart her lies one by one!!!
Gee and I thought the McShame campaign was supposed to have a sense of humor, Why aren’t they just laughing about it. Guess this is going to scare McShame off from learning how to use the internets.
Ned!
JANE!
DO TELL!
Right now they are talking about Emailgate.
OT
Real Science and the EPA

Seriously, will this get any traction with the economy continuing to turn into a steaming pile of goo?
I thought McCrazy was in favor of being able to read everybody else’s e-mail, and listening to their phone calls, opening mail…….
scar was throwing a right major hissy about it this morning; warmed my heart, it did. :-))
And she’s (along with the other three) gonna get a highest level security briefing from the Pentagon (iirc)…….with no security clearance?
Tweety brought in to critique Boosh’s speech re the economy.
On MSNBC.
market is up right now – might be interesting to watch what happens after Junya talks….
Stupie McFuckwit getting ready to talk about the economy, I’m going to head out to work.
JAYT!!!
we think alike
Glenn has some words about gov.@YAHOO! vs. the rest of us (NSA, etc).
http://www.salon.com/opinion/g…..8/privacy/
Are we expected to ignore the fact that, if this email story is true, a sitting governor would use a hackable private email server for secure state business? Cluelessness we can beleive in? Or just plain old fashoined stupidity.
you poor thing….
lol.
Bush on my NPR with his statement about the economy.
That brings up another point. Do you think I could get a security clearance if my spouse had been a member of a secessionist party? Somehow, I doubt it.
If you blinked, you missed bushie’s speech……..oh, my goodness gracious, I feel so comforted now. s/
looks to me that the market dropped about 50 points there.
Nice of Georgie to give us that comprehensive, detailed plan, and provide a warm and fuzzy *two-minute* spirit-lifter…
McCain said We will have no further comment.
I must have woken up on the cynical side of the bed, because I’m having a hard time believing that!
If they do comment further, can we call them on it?
Oh, he just likes to try to sound like Big Daddy, doesn’t he? Ha.
Shorter Bush: Blah, blah, blah. He’s reading this shit without the least idea what he is saying.
W: We’re taking extraordinary measures to shore up markets.
Complete failure as a statement. Frowning all the time. So much for the bully pulpit.
I’m outraged, OUTRAGED!

Sort of apropos:
Time has a big story on the financial crisis “How Financial Madness Overtook Wall Street.”
http://www.time.com/time/business/art…..23,00.html
And no, I am not going to read it. I bring it up simply to point out that this is not a case of bolting the barndoor after the horse is gone. It is a case of bolting the door after the horse is not only gone but died of old age and the barn fell down 3 years ago. This is too little too ridiculously late. If we had a news media in this country, Time would have written this article somewhere between 2003 and 2005 with regard to mortgage markets, in 2001 (after the collapse of Enron) wrt out of control CEOs gaming the financial system, or anytime in the last 5, 10, and 15 years wrt derivatives.
The article also has a big picture of Henry Paulson. It is important to remember that when he was nominated to head Treasury on May 30, 2006, he left his position as CEO of Goldman Sachs, the most successful of the investment banks which created the casino atmosphere on Wall Street. I would point out too that by May 2006 the housing bubble was already thoroughly rotten and showing signs of bursting. Yet this Real Smart Guy sat on his hands for more than a year before it finally burst.
They might get Joe off the bench, he has run this formation before. Unless he is still mad at Sarah.
Yeah, that one disappeared into the ether. The Dem’s let it go *poof*; what else is new?
The point of the speech that Georgie had to call off a trip and stay home, so far as I could tell.
well, at least he looked pissed.
Like an elegy delivered by a minister who never met the deceased
only if they can keep bullying the media into covering it 24/7.
That is their power…bullying the media.
who never met the deceased
very apt.
If we are going to get into a whodunnit, I would speculate that Holy Joe, proud attack chihuahua for McCain, told his master that blaming bloggers and anonymous libruls is a good way to create a smoke screen for total incompetence. Of course it didn’t work out too well for Joe at the primaries.
Jane,
Hacktacular Howie Kurtz does his “harumph harumph” bit today on the Palin email hack:
Why would “anyone in possession of these e-mails” need to “destroy them?” Can’t the campaign just deny anything our lying eyes and ears are seeing and hearing, like they do over all of McCain’s documented positions and actions for the past 30 years?
“It has the potential to be an epidemic,” Chris Swecker, the FBI official in charge of criminal investigations, told reporters in September 2004.
link
It depends on how “Bushed” the FBI and DIA became.
JoeScar seems to be making quite a bit of sense on MSNBC.
Who slipped what into my coffee?
I might suggest you read Steven Perlstein’s column ‘Scrambling to Clean Up After A Category 4 Financial Storm’. Wonderful explanation of what happened.
The ethics of hacking her email accounts may be morally ambiguous (a position entirely familiar to the republican party who live in a state of total moral ambiguity) but it certainly has a “white hat” air about it as far as I am concerned.
Whatever she’s hiding is either of enormous consequence or is so mundane that it’s not worth mentioning, but for the fact that she has mounted an operation worthy of the Germans hiding Enigma or the Japanese hiding the “Purple Code” from their adversaries in time of war.
Amazing that they are so afraid of sunshine isn’t it? Perhaps they’re all just Vampires….hmmmm, interesting thought LOL… Where’s Joss Whedon when you need him for a change to the script?
Why did smart guy sit on his hands?
Hey, if the government can read my email, why can’t I read theirs? If they have nothing to hide, they have nothing to fear, right? Right?
Karl Rove wasn’t stupid enough to use Yahoo.
here’s a doozie
He sometimes does. Inevitably he veers off course. Watching Scarborough sometimes is like watching a trainwreck.
I think it’s that there is so much stuff coming out on her, that they are trying to keep up with all the other issues. Instead, they should pich a couple and hammer away on them. A lot of the things on her are bright shiny objects.
Just finished 22 minutes of Rocky Mountain – KGAB – AM right-wing talk radio on Sarah’s “qualifications.”
I’m developing, along with Shannyn Moore, a set of talking points that are pretty much impossible for the wingers to refute. Which I tested. They work. Which reduces the likelihood I’ll be asked to appear on many of those stations, eh…?
http://www.washingtonpost.com/…..03834.html . The link to the article.
thanx for the link, I left what I believe is an EXCELLANT comment, would be nice to get it recommended ad nauseum if you guys care to take a look
You feel better now? You were just experiencing that “pre-game” anxiety!
Needless to say, the GOP fauxtrage mill won’t get cranked up over this Fox News commentator saying that Sarah Palin “has tits”.

I LOVE wikileaks, where the emails have been dumped. Wikileaks NEVER EVER takes anything down, regardless of what any courts or governments say. They are steadfast and unwavering.
Her emails will remain there no matter what.
I wish a bunch of Bush Admin officials would do some document dumps, classified or not, to wikileaks.
Yeah, the poor baby didn’t get to go to Florida and Alabama to raise money for mcsame….. who’s likely to be pisseder still. hehehehe
McCain’s Pfailin’ team in Cedar Rapids IA today…any hometown pup reports appreciated.
Gaffe o’the Day from McCain?
Pfailin’ answer any question? Any question?
Cindy wardrobe of the day estimate?
That’s good to know. Yesterday someone here (who shall remain un-named) said she was “getting” a BJ!
Well I went and took care of the five Ss while his incompetency was babbling I am sure I didn’t miss anything
I feel out of it. Is there a link?
I guess it was. He only had me take one caller, who I nicely devastated. Everything courteous.
Wyoming is a lot like Alaska in many ways. I think I was supposed to be on for an hour, but it was disturbing to the program producer how conservative and sensible I was sounding. He really did ask one wrong question after another, if he wanted to prop her up.
Way to go! Represent!
Oh, I’m guessing you will still get requests. Don’t they like (soap) drama?
Good for you. Thanks for all the updates from your neck of the woods. Daughter reporting to Obama’s HQ tomorrow?
well, that would have been much more enjoyable if they hadn’t thrown out that incredibly difficult trivia question at the end.
I wonder if any Fox viewer has managed to come up with the correct answer yet?
lol.
Questions from an information security professional:
Was Sarah Palin using a weak password, like, say, “Track123″?
Was Sarah Palin using Yahoo’s secure HTTPS login, or was she using a clear-text HTTP password transmission that any network administrator between her house and Yahoo could sniff?
Was Sarah Palin aware that a large number of Yahoo personnel could and can inspect her stored e-mail at any time?
Was Sarah Palin cognizant of the fact that Yahoo is a private company to which she was entrusting her governmental e-mail?
Does Sarah Palin use the same password in any other place? For instance, does she use the same password for her on her official governmental e-mail login?
Has anyone checked whether, since the hackers guessed it, they have used her password to access any of her other accounts?
Having not seen them, has anyone authenticated whether this is a real story, or whether some prankster created the account “gov.sarah@yahoo.com” in the first place?
Just a few questions off the top of my head…
Does anyone know where mccain stood/stands on SS privatization?
Tweety’s still pushing the “imagine where all the poor old people would be now” (as he should) and something tells me it ain’t gonna be the last we hear from him about it.
It would be quite lovely if mccain had a heavy duty involvement in that proposal.
I can’t believe I am going to say this but Tweety seems more upset with the economic situation than any of the other talking heads. He’s been asking the hard questions to republics like no one else.
She reported to their Seattle Queen Anne Hill office yesterday. Sat round a table with nine Obama workers, being interviewed. She described her life in Wasilla, up until college. They hired her on the spot.
She’s going to go around to very rich, undecided voters’ houses, with a small team. If Palin gets brought up, they’ll put ETette center stage. I’m so proud of my pooh…
I certainly hope not. It should register with all of those sixty-somethings in Florida who supposedly have lingering doubts about what to make of Obama.
I would like to hear more on the Wasilla library director/Palin confrontation. Thank the ALA for inadvertantly publicizing the blogspot for Librarians against Palin. There’s an interesting interview with the author of Pastor I am Gay.
“She has been commander in chief of the Alaska National Guard. Fact. On September 11 a contingent of the Guard deployed to Iraq and her son happened to be one of them so I think she understands national security challenges.”
Who’s the spokesmouth who just stuck his/her foot in that one? Daymn, this thing just keeps gettin’ better and better!
Jane and Firedogs -
the e-mail story has disappeared – missing from all front pages as of 3 minutes ago –
even the paste huffers over at NRO, redstate, Klown Hall have dropped it from their front page
CARB is the only one still talking about it
wtf ?
Voted for it.

Anyone at nsa that releases private info goes to the big house
Also, he deployed on 9/12. Just another small factual distortion to help the Palin mythology.
Despicable.
-G
Does anyone know where mccain stood/stands on SS privatization?
A few posts down at FDL there is an Obama ad that gives the dates of three different times McCrazy voted for the bush proposal to privatize SS.
He probably lost his ass in the market.
Sweeeeeeet! Proud is about as good as it gets.
And, may I add this saying here…
Action is the antidote for despair.
You and yours are inspiring. The next time someone asks what can we do? We’ll point to you.
Wanna bet her password was “hockymom”?
Plus if you work for NSA you don’t have a job if you refuse to take a polygraph test. They have been doing those to folks with NSA clearances since the ’80s.
That’s no fair, ET……..you must now forthwith share said TP’s with the Lake.
Good on ya for the intestinal fortitude to take on the task of getting the word out!
I was thinking the same thing. Either way, his angst towards the pukes is fine with me.
but anyone can gather that info, releasing it or using it is another matter, the info might have “gotten out” innocently
Polygraphs can be defeated. They are useless in court for a reason. They are almost as unreliable as torture is for getting good info.
Put a tack on your shoe and press your foot down on it, or dig a fingernail hard into your palm, while doing the baseline questions and you can beat the system. Any sociopath can also beat them handily – they never have an emotional response of the type detectable by polygraph. I daresay that anyone good at meditation could also beat one.
I think a lot of people have. From my purview, Matthews has had a different voice since the conventions. Started hitting hard on talking points we share here at the Lake. And, then, after he and KO were demoted a bit – yech for David Gregory – he has come out even stronger.
Sorta like, oh yeah? You ain’t heard Nothing yet.
Anyone else see it that way?
Yes. I really liked his analogy about the Republicans trying to “take off their uniforms” and mix into the crowd. It could have a lot of uses like, “John McCain, believed to have been a member of the Republican Guard, ….”
ET -
NO! NO! Don’t! I take it back; no sense giving away the game plan. I gotta start thinking like a republic.
The author of “Pastor, I Am Gay,” Rev. Howard Bess, was our guest for dinner Sunday. He’s a wonderful, courageous man. He lost his Anchorage pulpit in the 80s for going against the Baptist apparatchiks on this issue. I believe that part two of David Talbot’s salon.com series on the Mat-Su Valley will concenttrate on Rev. Bess. Lindsay covered part one of Talbot’s work here yesterday.
more likely it is rabidbloodypitbull…
Hot diggity doggity!
*smooch*
Not sure what his motivation for his shift has been maybe he was shocked and insulted by McShames selection of Palin
we have been enjoying him the past few days as well – was worth it just to see Eric Holder’s body language
think ol Tweety like many, has been thinking all along this was his father’s republican party – hence the puzzlement
also wondering if he’s somehow already found out his $5M a year isn’t gonna be renewed so he’s going out with a fact based bang
Tim Wise on White privilege (and McCain, Palin and Bush).
For the same reason he has been so slow to react. Remember this has been going on for more than a year. The bubble officially burst on August 9, 2007 when BNP Paribas froze accounts in 3 of its hedge funds which had been heavily into subprime loans. On the upside of a bubble, it’s always Keep government out of it, let the genius of the marketplace work, the invisible hand, privatize gains, then when things go kersplat it becomes all about intervening to preserve market stability, i.e. denial, bailouts, socializing losses. But and this is the important point, nowhere is there a mention of structural reforms to keep this from happening again or an overarching settlement to reasonably apportion losses among all those involved.
When I’m not trying to make chocolate chip cookies for a meeting this evening, I’ll share a story about the polygraphs. They are very good cookies and a frequently requested recipe, which I will share if so desired.
Realizing that someone with one of the NSA clearances has had their family and friends interviewed and their co-workers interviewed every five years the polygraph is just one of the tools. You should have seen the look on a DIA interviewers face when I told him about the stories of one of my co-workers from when he and others were named persona non-grata in Berlin by Henry Kissenger himself. In fact, he was not allowed to return to Berlin until dear old Henry left government.
Apparently his book (X copies?) was stolen from the Wasilla library. That in itself is an act of vigilante censorship.
Here’s the thing. The overpaid talking heads at the networks are getting hammered in the market. It’s one thing to lose your home; that can happen to anybody. But to loose five or ten million dollars in a day? That’s tragic. They are looking for someone to blame, and they don’t have to look far. Same holds for the producers.
Guys like the overpaid ex-head of GE, Welch, have their cash tied up in tax-free munis. Does Orange County or Vallejo CA ring a bell, anyone? Their cash is in the crapper, just like the rest of us.
He probably is one of the few who talked with his broker.
New Lindsay post upstairs!
IMHO, Chris Matthews has been transitioning from his attempt to be a non-partisan journalist to returning to his Dem roots for quite some time…over the war, and now the financial mess. He’s no more happy with out world reputation than we are, I think, and I believe he believes this is too important not to take a stand. Plus, he seem Keith doing it, and that gave him the courage.
I hope so. Sometimes there is one issue in particular that outrages some person about a candidate, perhaps because of profession, affiliation etc. The censorship of Pastor I am Gay and Palin’s attitude toward librianship & its core values (freedom of information) as portrayed in some of the news articles, is what sends me over the roof and makes me want to do some phonebanking or something . . .
OT: FWIW, Obama now leads or is tied with McCain in all national polls currently posted at TPM Election Central (all dated 9/18 and 9/17). Per CNN, Obama leads in OH and is tied in FL.

Thanks for hopping off the rail and into the pig sty.
We have to bring reality to where those people live.
They certainly aren’t interested in seeking it on their own.

Re Steven Pearlstein,
He’s putting to much on this Americans not living within their means. The simple truth is that rather than redistributing some of the nation’s wealth in the last 30 years to increase workers wages this money has gone to the rich and the lower and middle class have had to go more deeply in debt to stay where they are. I don’t know Pealstein but I wonder what he thought about Bush’s tax cuts for the richest Americans beginning back in 2001. Was he criticizing those as foolish and spendthrift?
That seems right to me. It seems that a decision may have been made also, to quit intermixing MSNBC and NBC staffs so much and let MSNBC go more as the left counter-Fox. Brokaw and Williams can continue with to discuss news with raised pinkies and the MSNBC people can say what they think more. Gregory’s MSNBC show is based on the election and would have to be renamed,or replaced, after the election.
Can I say that part drives me totally batty? I’ve heard that from some Democrats too, along the lines of: “people need to take responsibility for making bad decisions.” From now on, I don’t want to hear that anymore from a Democrat, not when referring to the working or middle classes that have been f*cked over in every way conceivable from my point of view (Of course just when you heard it all, there’s sometimes more to come).
You mean she was not well-connected to the GOP political port forwarding machine? What a losermom!
Market’s back down. Gonna get a lot worse. I hear the ghost of Tom Joad calling me.
