i mean, i don’t exactly love carville, and his allegiances are not at all clear in the larger picture.

but regardless of his true feelings and his intent, there is a way in which this can play against mccain, in that all these people are so shocked, SO shocked that his campaign would run something this base, this depraved, that they are forced to rethink the man, and his character.

that’s already begun. numerous pundits and columnists have hit the threshold and admitted that, gosh, maybe they never really knew the man after all.

this could actually be good because, (a) it suggests he’s been playing the media and everyone else all along, and (b) it puts him between a rock and a hard place. to whit: if he sticks by the ads, he’s trashed by yet more of these folks who finally see the light, and his love affair with the media is over, toast. but if he doesn’t stick by them, and denounces them, he’ll be forced to clean up his act and maintain clean campaigning from here on out.

which will also be his death, because that is all they have right now, folks, trash. trash and lies. there is nothing else.

maybe carville knows all this, more likely he doesn’t. but let him rant and rave. i can see only good coming from it for obama, and only bad for mccain, who brought it all on himself anyway.

I’ve never understood why anyone would give this guy is a democratic consultant job description – he never was and never will be. He is a Clinton political consultant, through and through. He’s married to Mary Matlin for chrissakes. I don’t understand why anyone on a democratic ticket lacking Hillary Clinton would ever believe anything he might say would ever be in their best interest.

Probably Joe Biden’s team – the fierce attack dog of the Obama-Biden campaign had this to say about their rival recently:

John McCain is my friend,” said the loquacious Blue Hen. “I admire John McCain. I know of no man or woman I have ever met that has more personal courage than John McCain. We have been friends for over 33 years. We have traveled together. When John was Navy liaison he staffed me for three or four years everywhere I traveled in the world.”

“But he’s a great guy,” Biden said, “and if John called me today and said ‘Joe -,’ like when they went after John McCain, when Bush went after him in South Carolina with the scurrilous comments they made about his character, I called him and said, ‘John, where do you want me? Yes, they are inspiring America with their bi-partisanship this campaign season.

Surely the 22% of the populace that still do not despise Bush will appreciate how they are being catered to by the Senior Senator of Change and the Junior Senator of Change, and they are just the types that need to be won over.

Carville’s message would be even stronger if he did not so resemble something from the fiction of Anne Rice, however.
