The McCain campaign may be trying to downplay Sarah Palin’s religious beliefs. Palin’s campaign staff have already told pastors at Wasilla Bible Church to zip it.
The campaign’s reticence is understandable. Palin and her closest spiritual advisers worship in ways that would give the average American pause. Major themes at Palin’s longtime spiritual home, the Wasilla Assembly of God, include belief in demons, witchcraft, and the end of the world in our lifetime.
At least three out of the four churches Palin has attended during her adult life are part of the Third Wave, or Spiritual Warfare movement–the same movement showcased in the documentary Jesus Camp. The Third Wave teaches that demons are real minions of Satan who can take up residence in people and places. Adherents believe that territorial spirits must be opposed by Strategic Level Spiritual Warfare.
Palin has made it clear that her faith influences her politics. Pastor Ed Kalnins of the Wasilla Assembly told graduating Bible students that upon meeting Palin for the first time, he immediately recognized that Palin she was "a disciple of the Lord Jesus Christ before she [was] the Mayor." (video, starts 5:42)
"I can do my job there in developing our natural resources and doing things like getting the roads paved and making sure our troopers have their cop cars and their uniforms and their guns, and making sure our public schools are funded," she said in June to ministry students at her former church. "But really, all of that stuff doesn’t do any good if the people of Alaska’s heart isn’t right with God," Palin told graduating students at the same gathering.
The governor has a history of mixing her office and her spirituality. Earlier this year, Palin was publicly blessed by Kalnins and billed the state of Alaska for the trip.
Palin reportedly sees her political career as a means to God’s ends. Recall that Palin believes the world will end in her lifetime. That’s what she told my colleague, Phil Munger, in so many words.
What role does she envision for herself as God’s agent in this unfolding eschatology?

“The Third Wave teaches that demons are real minions of Satan who can take up residence in people and places.”
Sarah Palin can look right into the eyes of an innocent being, minding its own business…aim, fire, and kill it for sport in order to boost her own ego..and then brag about the kill.
I don’t see Jesus doing something like that.
Sounds pretty possessed to me. Maybe she should look in the mirror.
I’m guessing that by “demons”, her church means people like us. And what’s wrong with believing in witchcraft?
Boxturtle (Wiccan and proud of it)
This would make a great campaign commercial.
Buchanan went ape shit on Rachel last night for the “attacks’ on her church.
“Among other things, she declared that she was a young earth creationist, accepting both that the world was about 6,000-plus years old, and that humans and dinosaurs walked the earth at the same time.
I asked how she felt about the second coming and the end times. She responded that she fully believed that the signs of Jesus returning soon “during MY lifetime,” were obvious. “I can see that, maybe you can’t – but it guides me every day.”
Gawd….stop this maniac.
“…he immediately recognized that Palin she was “a discipline of the Lord Jesus Christ before she [was] the Mayor.”
Did he really say discipline, or is it a mis-transcription for disciple?
She must be the antichristess.
Paranoid and violent no wonder Sarah’s hometown is the meth capital of Alaska.
http://www.juneauempire.com/st…..8002.shtml
are there snakehandlers? I hope there are snakehandlers…
I hope many are on video saying their children have “darksided” for watching the simpsons.
It’s hard for me to wrap my mind around the idea of educated people in a post industrial society believing in the sort of demons depicted in Renaissance Paintings and drugstore Halloween costumes. But they do.
Next step on the road to a theocracy
http://www.washingtonpost.com/…..02460.html
Yep, she’s a liar. She’s a liar and a kook. Did I mention she’s a liar. Lying is a problem. Here’s a bigger example:http://www.crooksandliars.com/2008/09/09/virginia-county-issues-chilling-voter-registration-report/
Kind of a chicken/egg argument there.
Look into the eyes of a crankhead and tell me that demonic possession is a fantasy.
The demons are in crystaline man made form.
This woman is scary.
No wonder. This will scare the pants off a lot of people. I worked a precinct in the primary last month and voting was at a Baptist church next door to a Pentecostal church, where the voting had been previously. More than one person referred to the one next door as the home of the “holy rollers”. Even here in hard-core Bible belt country, those people are seen as crazy.
You mean like Bobby Jindal?
And even if they don’t really believe it, they are still able to say it with a straight face. yikes.
They push. We roll over & play dead.
But the important point was that Buchanan was ON Rachel’s show. I love her!
Meth isn’t magic, though. Third Wavers believe in the literal imps of Satan. They have org charts depicting the demonic power structure.
Hahahaha, where’s Jeremiah Wright when you need him??
Seriously, hypocrites….
(Wiccan and proud of it)
hey – I went to a Wiccan wedding once – very cool indeed.
OK I can see where this is going. If you are a democrat, you are possessed by the devil and should be locked up until you accept Jesus Christ as your Savior in the form of worship approved of by the State.
Good Lard.
Beware the wolf in sheep’s clothing…and the wolf killer in faux religious raiment.
I think all of the bloggers here are scared of Palin. Lots of attention on her, and she isn’t even the presidential candidate. Uh oh, are the extremists scared? Fun stuff.
Rachel was great. Before he came on she told Keith that many religious practices can seem strange to outsiders. She was very evenhanded about the whole deal. Not so much when it came to “healing the gay” though.
Does speaking in tongues count as foreign policy experience?
I understand.
The principle is the same as technology perceived as magic.
The degradation caused by meth is so profound as to cause one to ponder the supernatural.
But it is a man-made blight, no question.
DO NOT FEED THIS TROLL
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado (CNN) — The Rev. Ted Haggard agreed Saturday to resign as leader of the megachurch he started in his basement more than 20 years ago after its independent investigative board said he was guilty of “sexually immoral conduct.”
On Friday, Haggard admitted he had received a massage from a Denver man who claimed the prominent pastor had paid him for sex over three years. Haggard also admitted he had bought methamphetamine.
http://www.cnn.com/2006/US/11/…..index.html
Maybe the reason the fundies like meth is because when they are high is the only time they can admit that they are gay?
Sarah’s hometown is the bible belt of Alaska as well a the Meth Capital.
Could keeping their true selves a secret be the real cause of their demons and also their desire for drugs?
Different societies produce different kinds of crooks.
In McCain’s administration, Palin would be one beat of his elderly heart away from a dooms-day button. Scary shit!
They don’t have time to feed, they’re too busy attacking Sarah Palin and not focusing on McCain, or the fact that Obama’s religious history is just as bad, if not worse than Palin’s.
She’s the Eschaton!
Buchanan went ape shit on Rachel last night for the “attacks’ on her church.
Buchanan went ape-shit in general, immediately after forcing out the words, through an angrily clenched jaw – “Congratulations on your new show, Rachel.”
I truly hope she just brought him on to fuck with him and that, after premiere night, he’ll never be back on again.
As it was though, Buchanadana went on a major rant, Rachel put it all right back in his face, and then shut him down.
“Thanks Pat – buh-bye.”
they are what’s known as “dispensationalists”
these are some real maniacs, they actually believe Armageddon is a GOOD thing, they believe the sooner Armageddon gets here the quicker they get to heaven
they not ONLY believe that but they believe they can affect how quickly it gets here, AND THEY DO WHATEVER POSSIBLE TO FACILITATE the event
now, if you want THAT kind of person with their finger on the trigger, Sarah moose is your gal
It can be cool. I was married Wiccan at a small ceremony at my home. I’ve attended a ceremony with over 150 people and a cake to match, held at dawn at a state park. But I must admit, if you want a fancy wedding it pays to be Catholic!
Boxturtle (Otoh, at a handfasting you get to the cake at least an hour earlier)
So you are going to do another post explaining the demon power structure? Where do Lefty Bloggers and Commenters rank in the Demon’s hierarchy?
SPREAD THE FEAR!!!! Oh no, Sarah Palin is the antichrist.
Seriously, are you nuts?
Fear monger much?
To be more accurate, we more “scared” of fellow bloggers who buy into her bullshit.
What’s the difference between demon-fearing-speaking-in-tongues-end-of-timers and Talibo-islamic fascists? Lipstick.
You know, that explains a lot about our foreign “policy”. That and war profiteering. It’s a win-win.
The Third Wave teaches that demons are real minions of Satan who can take up residence in people and places.
Aha! – that explains a lot of things for me….
anybody got Bobby Jindal’s number?
Or the followers of Obama who buy into his? Because that’s all he spews, he’s never actually done anything…
Take away the teleprompter and he’s a fool.
Would make a great actor though.
I wonder how is half brother is doing.
If yer talkin about me I suggest you engage in a little self-reflection.
I’m not trying to start anything here.
TCU, if I figure out the exact hierarchy, I’ll be sure to let you guys know. They appear to have worked it out in great detail.
A big part of Strategic Spiritual Warfare is “Spiritual Mapping” where the faithful figure out which geographical areas are inhabited by which demons.
Preacher Haggard was in the film Jesus Camp I wonder if Sarah’s church has anything to say about meth?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jesus_Camp
Hope it is OK to repeat this
:
There are those who are just arrogant enough to believe that the “end of days” will come during their brief stint on planet Earth. Some of those are in positions of power to not only help enable it, but cause it to happen.
Which came first, the election of zealots bent on nuclear Armageddon, or the end of days? The answer is irrelevant when we’re all dead.
Armageddon Ready?
Wow. So while McCain assumes command of the Crusades in the Middle East Palin can burn witches at the stake in from of the Lincoln Memorial. You can’t help but be awed at the depths to which the Republicans have fallen (without being laughed out of the country).
Does McCain did give out prizes for “commenting” on liberal blogs? Here you go:
http://www.democraticundergrou…..15;4678548
Oh yeah, McCain is a “survivor” of the Vietnam War. I don’t want to have to call myself a survivor of his presidency. nice try though.
My sister in-law said the same thing this weekend. I have a very bad feeling about this. I fear they will win the election. The town where I live is crazy about her, they don’t even talk about McCain anymore. It’s nuts!
How’s Obama’s half brother doing?
So much for being “your brother’s keeper”.
All talk, no action, Obama ‘08.
I’m not nutz, but she is, that’s the point, if you thought what bush did to this country scared you, (and if you didn’t then there you have it), well you ain’t seen nothing yet
I think I can get it out of my kid’s dungeons and dragons manual if you want. Chances are that the role players version is a lot more interesting. Hmmm, role players…I wonder if there’s a hidden truth here
They could bring Jindal in and get rid of any demons
So you’re trying to scare more and more people for your own benefit by fear mongering?
So much for “change”, that’s more of the same…
The Christian Zionists are hell bent on bringing about Armageddon:
On July 16, I attended Christians United for Israel’s annual Washington-Israel Summit. Founded by San Antonio-based megachurch pastor John Hagee, CUFI has added the grassroots muscle of the Christian right to the already potent Israel lobby. Hagee and his minions have forged close ties with the Bush White House and members of Congress from Sen. Joseph Lieberman to Sen. John McCain. In its call for a unilateral military attack on Iran and the expansion of Israeli territory, CUFI has found unwavering encouragement from traditional pro-Israel groups like AIPAC and elements of the Israeli government.
But CUFI has an ulterior agenda: its support for Israel derives from the belief of Hagee and his flock that Jesus will return to Jerusalem after the battle of Armageddon and cleanse the earth of evil. In the end, all the non-believers – Jews, Muslims, Hindus, mainline Christians, etc. – must convert or suffer the torture of eternal damnation. Over a dozen CUFI members eagerly revealed to me their excitement at the prospect of Armageddon occurring tomorrow. Among the rapture ready was Republican Former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay. None of this seemed to matter to Lieberman, who delivered a long sermon hailing Hagee as nothing less than a modern-day Moses. Lieberman went on to describe Hagee’s flock as “even greater than the multitude Moses commanded.”
Throughout CUFI’s Israel Summit, videographer Thomas Shomaker and I were hounded by PR agents seeking to prevent us from interviewing attendees about the End Times. The conference, we were told, was about “one message” – evangelical Christians supporting Israel. We were instructed to only interview CUFI leaders capable of sticking to the talking point that their support for Israel has, as Hagee declared, “nothing to do with the End Times.” But I was forbidden from asking Hagee about statements he made in his book, “Jerusalem Countdown,” that appeared to blame Jews for their own persecution. After doing just that during a press conference, I was removed from the conference by off-duty DC cops summoned by members of Hagee’s family.
I have covered the Christian right intensely for over four years. During this time, I attended dozens of Christian right conferences, regularly monitored movement publications and radio shows, and interviewed scores of its key leaders. I have never witnessed any spectacle as politically extreme, outrageous, or bizarre as the one Christians United for Israel produced last week in Washington. See for yourself.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/…..57826.html
Nope, just my own personal enjoyment of stirring up the nutjobs.
But Alaska is seen as a refuge
Yes, ma’am!
So that is your motive. I wonder how McCain’s crippled and abandoned first wife is doing. so much for loyalty!
More likely our friend with the car running on peanut oil.
I think our focus on Palin owes more to frustration with McCain’s seeming (and undeserved) invulnerability to criticism. Choosing Palin might have been good for his campaign but was an example of extremely poor judgement regarding what is best for the country. We also suspect that with all the skeletons in her closet, Palin represents a chink in McCain’s armor and directing our arrows at that opening might be our best opportunity to preclude any possibility of his getting elected.
The difference is that Obama said we should be “our brother’s keeper”, McCain has never said “if your relationship is failing make sure to keep it alive”.
somewhere there’s a rock missing the slime underneath it.
Shouldn’t you get back to your day job now?
They say that Satan is ruler of this world…he could turn us all into Repukes, uh oh.
you’re an interesting chap, hide your head further in the sand, it works fine for those that think what has happened so far is fine
you’ve done a fine job showing us the kind of ignorance palin appeals to, fine indeed
have a great day and have a great end of days
The Christian Right and the Zionists actually believe they are using each other to get what they want. The Zionists are positive they are using the useful idiot End Timers to accomplish their own goal – to create Eretz Israel by having the US military take out all of their enemies, while the Christians are equally convinced they are using the useful idiot Zionists to enable their rapture, which will mean the end for the Jews.
They all deserve to be exposed as the arrogant, self-centered zealots that they are.
If you continue to attack Palin, who is widely accepted as a strong contribution to the McCain campaign, it will hurt the left’s chances because they’re not focusing on the true issues of policy or the candidate who controls it.
You can’t beat McCain by beating Palin, the left isn’t running against her…
Get Right With God
Religious tolerance in Palin church is non existent by dogma. That is not constitutional, tolerance was an intent by the founders.
Actually, I am not a religious person whatsoever. Just intrigued by the dramatic and outrageous blogs that continue to be posted on these sites, and they’re all directed at Palin.
Want to win an election? Campaign against the opposing candidate, not their running mate…
I can’t wait for the debates and all of the stumbling that Obama will do without a teleprompter, pure entertainment.
From Rush Limbaugh’s lips to your ears.
Dildoheads unite.
-G
Or Cindy’s half sisters
When Palin is fully exposed as the corrupt and dishonest politician she truly is, she will also drag down the foolish man who selected her as his running mate.
UNDERSTAND THE GOAL: Immigration to Israel
UNDERSTAND THE TACTICS: Foster anti-semitism
THE ZIONISTS WANT ALL JEWS TO MOVE TO THE “GREATER ISRAEL” (new and improved! – with new territory being acquired daily!)
THE STATE OF ISRAEL HAS DECLARED ALL-OUT WAR ON THE JEWISH PEOPLE WORLDWIDE
Ariel Sharon, the Prime Minister of Israel told the crowd at a Rome hotel. “We are witness to a great wave of anti-Semitism, and apart from the usual anti-Semitism against Jews, there is today the added hate of the collective Jew, which is Israel.”… “The best solution to anti-Semitism is immigration to Israel. It is the only place on Earth where Jews can live as Jews,” he said. (BBC website of Monday, 17 November, 2003
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/wor…..275979.stm)
Mr. Sharon has moved from the planning stages as stated in November, 2003, to the execution of the plan which has been in development since the days of Herzl, the founder of the Zionist movement, who stated in his diary “It is essential that the sufferings of Jews. . . become worse. . . this will assist in realization of our plans. . .I have an excellent idea. . . I shall induce anti-Semites to liquidate Jewish wealth. . . The anti-Semites will assist us thereby in that they will strengthen the persecution and oppression of Jews. The anti-Semites shall be our best friends”. (From his Diary, Part I, pp. 16)
In executing this plan they have successfully escalated anti-Semitism throughout the world.
There is great pain that the press and politicians are calling the actions of the Zionist movement “Jewish actions.”
With these words they are helping the Zionists to fulfill their dreams.
We call upon the world again to understand that the state of “Israel” does not represent the Jewish faith and traditions and that Zionists are the greatest enemies to the Jewish people.
We appeal to people of good will in the media itself to open their minds and hearts to what we are proclaiming about the truth of Judaism, which has been distorted by the Zionists.

She DID later (few years) state that she “wasn’t necessarily a young earth creationist” (if you follow the link). Now, perhaps, she believes the earth is actually 10,000 years old rather than a mere 6,000 years old.
Someone ask her if she still believes humans and dinos were regularly bumping into each other.
A big part of Strategic Spiritual Warfare is “Spiritual Mapping” where the faithful figure out which geographical areas are inhabited by which
demons.Methhttp://blog.legendarylife.com/…..h-epidemic
We can steal Sarah’s base right out from under her if Obama were to say that he will ban the production of the key ingredient of meth.
That and I think that without drugs to make them paranoid Sarah’s church is going to have a hard time believing in demons.
We can take the Western States where Meth is a huge concern, sure you might be prolife, be a racist etc but if someone you really love is on meth wouldn’t you do anything, even vote for Obama if he promised to take away the Meth?
9 places worldwide its a choke point, its doable, its an easy home run in the war on drugs we steal the issue from the GOP and put some focus on Sarah.
Imagine how Obama would be treated if he made the mayor of the largest Crack Town in a huge crack using per capita state his VP the MSM is giving Sarah a free ride!
Yeah, I had to listen to Rush to notice that Obama speaks like an 8th grader when he doesn’t have a teleprompter. Wow, it’s not rocket science.
You can’t beat McCain by beating Palin…
Election is coming soon, all of the tabloid rumors, fear mongering crap, etc. won’t stick that quickly.
The more dirt that’s blabbered all over the internet about Palin, the more people will see it for what it is. Fear mongering by the extreme left.
Ah, so family is ‘fair game’. Oh wait you play by the Republican Rules. You can do whatever you want but scream like children whenever the heat is turned on you.
You are the only ones who count.
-G
Why the fascination with the end of the world?
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_…..600966.stm
I suspect the necessity for determining hierarchy and all is to establish “facts” with which to cope with a world that is beyond their control. People who never leave the realms of fear must find a way to obtain control of that fear, their beliefs are as flags in the winds and do not support solid defenses against the fear.
So, do you have broadband under your bridge?
Talk about the family all you want, there is dirt on both sides. Actually, talk about family MORE, the more you do it the more afraid the left looks of McCain/Palin because they’re not focusing on the policy.
Yes, it’s getting way out of hand. They have figured out how to work each other to their own advantage, and are racing to the finish line.
Hahaha, extreme left insulting someone by saying they live under a bridge. So what if I did? Am I less important because of it? Hypocrite.
Jindal is Catholic he is a demon according to jesus campers. So is Pat Buchanan despite his defense of them.
I think the corporate wing of the GOP is setting the religious wing up to take the blame for McCain’s expected loss in November.
The religious wing wins elections…. Were you not here for the last 2?
citizen raven – erm – nevermind – i see where you were pointing
hey – (show text) works again
happy day
I think she meant as in “young”…now that “she” is 44…*g*
Actually, they only think they are working each other.
David Rockefeller and the globalist elite are playing both sides like a Stratovarius, while his total control over the media keeps the middle befuddled and divided straight down the middle.
There is no “politics.” Only the illusion thereof.
Got Bread & Circuses?
No just engaging in some straight talk. Now that the GOP has gone politically correct.
Fainting about “attacks on family”. When every rightwing nutsack was claiming that attacks on the Joe Wilson family were fair game.
Funny stuff.
-G
“Fool me once, shame on you.
Fool me twice……uh…erm…
Won’t get fooled again”
Yeah, but look at her BOOBS! (That is the thinking of a lot of the male GOP contingent)
Did you see the Daily Show bit on the RNC and the what makes her qualified? The first old man spoken to, his VERY FIRST reason why she was qualified to be VP (and step in to the P position when McCain strokes out) is because “she’s beautiful”. His second reason was because Alaska is “right next to Russia and Putin has his EYES ON ‘EM”.
Even McCain can’t help but scope out her but and her chest (seen those vids?)
Every GOPer male (the minority that aren’t self-hating gays) simply want to bang her…and that’s enough reason to vote for her.
“Lying is a family value”
They don’t need to fool you, just the religious right (which I’m assuming you’re not a part of).
Define extreme left…..commie pinkos???
Bwhahahahaha
ersatz edit:
add: These people need to create facts to support their beliefs tha provide them the only defense against their overwhelming world.
I am am away, carry on with the nattering, nabobs ;-(
If she looked like a toad, she wouldn’t be getting this much attention.
You can’t beat McCain by beating Palin, the left isn’t running against her…
replyReply
Sure we are Sarah is McCain’s choice she was chosen for political reasons not because she is qualified, she was obviously not vetted by McCain which shows his lack of judgment.
Didn’t some Dem VP cost us a race after it was found out he had some electroshock therapy, Sarah sees demons without electricity!
Straight talk? About what? Palin?
How about talk about policy? Blog about McCain running against Obama?
The left is obsessed with Palin, and I love it. It strengthens McCain’s campaign when you resort to fear mongering and attacking the VP candidate while ignoring the true issues.
Like I said, fire away at Palin, it helps McCain.
Biodieselvw has been hanging around for a bit.
He flails about, throwing out right-wing talking points and pretends not to understand when those talking points are debunked. His goal is to hijack the thread.
If he was original he would be entertaining.
Socialist radicals who forgot to enroll in Economics 101.
Anyways – the best approach to defeat the lies that are the Republican brand of the past 20 eyars are with truth.
Entitlements don’t swell the defecit – unnessicary wars , bubbles and bailouts do.
Earmarks are shiny objects too.
Not good, not honest, but tribvial compared to the gutting of the economy rendered by financial deregulation and ill-considered use of force in foreign policy.
What have you “debunked” in this thread?
I’m supporting you guys/gals in your attempts to bring down Palin, it helps McCain.
Nope, it’s this fucking asshole that keeps popping up with his (or her) cute shit. There was a lag when I posted.
Hahahahaha
Define socialist
Define radical
Financial deregulation like Bill Clinton deregulating Fannie Mae in 1994?
Three guesses who dunnit.
Biodieselvw who?
You speak as if there were 2 parties, yet increasingly the evidence suggests that is a sham.
Socialist = what’s mine is all of ours approach to life.
Radical = Away from center, far far away from center.
I’m not referring to this thread, biodiesel has been all over the lake recently.
He was so indignant that he couldn’t use the word “uppity” about them touchy colored folk.
Like most trolls, he can’t be ignored or he will die.
I warned everyone but noooooooooooooo, they want to argue with this moron.
Palin is so proud of being an “outsider”…hahahaha…Pariah Palin
McCain has to piggyback everybody..first Bush, now Palin…he’s straddling..
McCain camp LIE today is that Fannie and Freddie were bailed out in order to provide Americans with cheaper mortgages….hahahaha….because they don’t want to face the FACT that they were bailed out to prevent a total crash of the economy that was created by McCain’s econ friend and advisor, Phil Gramm.
Does it sound like sock smeller?
Fannie Mae is in the mess because of Bill Clinton. http://query.nytimes.com/gst/f…..A962958260
Bush had the Supreme Court stop a recount the first time, Kerry never demanded an investigation into Ohio’s voting problems/vote fraud.
The religious right can only sway low turnout elections or close races they don’t have the numbers to do otherwise.
But thanks to Bush messing up the war, the economy etc voters are interested this time in the election and without the fear of 9/11 to run on the voters are paying attention to the issues.
In other words this is the kind of election the religious right cannot sway a high turnout election, by motivated voters, who motivated by the war, the economy or maybe they just want to see an African American as President it does not matter they are motivated.
Sarah can motivate the 30%ers all she wants 30% is still less than 70%.
“We can have a democratic society or we can have the concentration of great wealth in the hands of the few. We cannot have both.” — Louis Brandeis, Supreme Court Justice from 1916-1939″
“If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their money, first by inflation and then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around them (around the banks), will deprive the people of their property until their children will wake up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered.” — Thomas Jefferson”
“It is well enough that people of the nation do not understand our banking and monetary system, for if they did, I believe that there would be a revolution before morning. And that revolution would be based around the Federal Reserve.” –Henry Ford
Ya mean that Rocky Feller?
The Bush economy is so good huh:)
That pretty much defines your position on this thread now doesn’t it?
hahahahahaha
Hi Raven, how’re things? I was quite proud of Adam Kokesh’s stand at the convention…what’s shaking in your neck of the woods?
Yet, the left focuses on Palin instead of running an actual campaign on policies.
Kerry was too busy shopping for clothes trying to figure out what to where on his corporate sponsored jet he took to Denver for the DNC this year.
New Blue Texan post next door.
http://firedoglake.com/2008/09…..alin-pick/
Nevermore.
No argument there…but Phil Gramm put the midnight knife into the entire economy when he snuck in his deregulation crappola on the eve of the Bushco regime takeover.
Never said that, just pointing out where it all started.
Clinton is guilty of starting it, Bush is guilty of not stopping it, and Obama is guilty of, well, nothing, because you can’t be guilty if you do nothing at all, ever.
Not that it matters to me, but I wonder if her evangelical followers would care about the close dates of her marriage and birth of first son (8/29/88-4/20/89) or her being married not in church, but in a $35 quickie job with a JP–if reports circulating on the Web are accurate. To them, wouldn’t these detours from the faith or church teachings possibly related to “character,” or at least be spelled h-y-p-o-c-r-i-s-y?
Attending 5 colleges in 6 years before getting her degree smacks of instability –or at least something fishy –to me. More info needed.
Americans need to realize that when we vote we are electing 2 presidents because the VP will become prez if something happens. That’s why it is so important to have a very close look at Palin. The VP slot is much more important than a “bucket of warm spit”.
Those were GOP ideas Phil Gramm and Newt would trade Bill votes for probusiness stuff they wanted and in return Bill would get what he wanted like votes for a balanced budget.
Is the GOP now running away from their probusiness, Lazzie Faire stand on the issues now are those policies poll testing so bad that now the GOP wants to claim it was all Clinton’s fault.
Is Peter denying that he knew
JesusFreemarket Economics three times before the night is ended? Here’s a tip for you. Dig into Palin all you want, destroy her reputation with the religious right, but look at their alternative. The religious right believes Obama is a muslim, that he will not defend israel, etc. (and no, I am in no way agreeing with them on that matter, just pointing out what their opinion is). So you can waste all the time in the world damaging Palin, but it will never sway the religious right.
Rain keeps missing us, unreal. Trying to balance my football addiction with inappropriate attacks on trolls. How bout you?
Go ahead…vote for the warmongering lunatics who want to spy on you, allow torture, whose campaign is run by lobbiests, who kill innocent animals for sport, who make rape victims pay for their own rape kits, who don’t believe women should receive equal pay for equal work, and who believe in demons and gods who want to invade sovereign countries and kill innocent people…
Go ahead.
IQ obviously around 40.
“The Administration is urging that loans be more broadly available to poor and lower-middle-income Americans. “
They said to banks that they would back these low grade mortgages, and they didn’t keep up their end of the bargain. In a free market situation these loans would never have been made because nobody would insure them because of the high risk. Typical situation for the US, government gives a handout, alters the free market, and destroys the economy.
Name 1 government program that is efficient and effective.
And what does jesus have to do with freemarket economics?
Hahaha, all campaigns are run by lobbiests, don’t kid yourself.
John McCain wants to allow torture? Since when?
uh oh, I’m in danger of going all sportsy on the board. But the Tom Brady thing is a real bummer. He’s a local boy done good.
I bump into friends who want to send their kids to very conservative schools and it makes me shudder. I’ll see you over at BT’s post.
Since he refused to vote against waterboarding…that’s when.
Socialist = I am my brother’s keeper.
Radical = Although I am important, fairness to others is also important.
Fairness? Oh, sorry I’m successful, here’s a cookie and a paycheck.
Communist.
Here was McCain’s response. Had nothing to do with torture vs. non-torture.
“The conference report would go beyond any of the recent laws that I just mentioned – laws that were extensively debated and considered – by bringing the CIA under the Army Field Manual, extinguishing thereby the ability of that agency to employ any interrogation technique beyond those publicly listed and formulated for military use. I cannot support such a step because I have not been convinced that the Congress erred by deliberately excluding the CIA. I believe that our energies are better directed at ensuring that all techniques, whether used by the military or the CIA, are in full compliance with our international obligations and in accordance with our deepest values. What we need is not to tie the CIA to the Army Field Manual, but rather to have a good faith interpretation of the statutes that guide what is permissible in the CIA program. “
I’m going to defend Sarah Palin’s right to practice her religion any way she sees fit. I know those beliefs sound weird and frightening to you all, but some of the folks in my neighborhood are just as frightened of Wiccans.
The problem that I see with this little gigglefest about those weird ‘Holy Rollers’ is that it is tactically stupid. Attacking a candidate’s religious beliefs is a loser in American politics, especially for Democrats. Now, I’m talking about the way the world is, not how it should be. The next two months aren’t the time to try to move the Overton window either. The more the attacks on Palin are perceived as being about her religious beliefs, the more effective Palin will be.
Lindsay’s question is a legitimate one:
Unfortunately, we’re not likely to get a straight answer to it. Palin, if she’s asked, is unlikely to answer honestly. Who would believe her anyway?
If you’re as worried as I am about the influence of extreme right-wing psuedo-Christian belief in our political life, you need to be working hard to make sure that McCain/Palin loses and that McCain’s pandering in picking Palin is seen as the reason.
The religious right is not the monolith that the press and most people think it is. It’s not even really about religion, otherwise the Pentecostals, Baptists, and conservative Catholics would never agree*. It’s all about the Sixties, drugs, and the Pill (even when they’re talking gays and abortion). You can’t really undermine Palin’s status in the movement by focusing on her church’s theological positions and the average swing voter isn’t going to care.
The key to driving up her negatives among the swing, low-information voter is to make her answer questions about her stand that abortion shouldn’t be allowed in the case of rape, even of her own daughter. She really said that. If you want to see her support among white women fall, you better hope that Joe Biden says something like, “I know if my daughter Ashley were raped and became pregnant, I’d want her to be able to decide for herself whether or not to keep the baby.”
Lindsay,
Thanks for your post. Had an interesting conversation with a group of my fellow Christians working in urban ministry. We think there are many valid questions to be asking in terms of how Palin views her own ministry, if she views her public service as her ministry and the context in which she views issues of our economy and foreign policy.
I understand how she views my ministry, as a community organizer, in rebuilding the walls of the city. Clearly, she does not want to encourage such ministry.
Your work is cogent and helpful in clarifying “what’s” out there.
It’s not that it isn’t important, it’s just that it shouldn’t be your major qualification for running for president…..
For those of you concerned about this, put your mind at ease. The only real authority around has this to say about it:
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
I Thes.5:[2] For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.
II Pet.3:[10] But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
What that all means is that anyone who says they know when it’s all going to end, is full of crap. And they are LYING! They can’t make it so just because they want it to be.
Oh, BTW, you don’t want to be here! I estimate the earth is going to look like a somewhat lumpy cue ball.
Additionally, Jesus himself states that (I paraphrase) “…no one knows when the end comes but the Father in heaven.”
Most of these end timers who believe that the Second Coming will occur in their lifetimes are afraid of their own deaths. No way around that.
“…for those who think that deaths’ honesty
won’t fall upon them naturally
life sometimes must get lonely…”
- Dylan
“The Third Wave teaches that demons are real minions of Satan who can take up residence in people and places.”
There’s the explanation for the Republican Party.
Glad you enjoyed the post, Klynn. Keep up the good work in your community.
Elect these two 16th century minds, and look forward to the 21st Century version of the Inquisition, if they don’t nuke us into extinction first.
So, unless you belong to the lipstick-packin’ pitbull’s whacko cult, vote to defeat them.
I grew up among evangelicals, and I’ve spent decades with them, in and out of my family, since. I’ve sat through the clip of Palin speaking at her old Assemblies church several times. And I think the great mass of liberals for whom all of this is a second or eighth language need to stop hyperventilating.
I don’t fault anyone for worrying about the religious motivations of candidates on the right. But grilling someone on their religious beliefs is just plain inappropriate, whether the right is doing it to our guys or we’re doing it to them. And most Americans are just not going to be as freaked out by Sarah’s church as most of the left blogosphere.
I’m confident, from that clip, that Palin is not another Ashcroft or Cornyn. She no doubt grants intellectual assent to a mish-mash of pretty outlandish notions, but theology is not really one of her big drivers. She doesn’t talk, in that clip, like someone neck deep in prayer and fasting and exorcism and tongues-speaking. She talks like someone who was raised in Pentecostal culture, knows the lingo, knows how to speak it to reassure the congregation she’s on their side. But the buttons she pushes with them are the ones that say “I’m one of you”, not the ones that rouse the mob to get out and attack the infidel. In the context of that sort of congregation, her references to God are as bland as any of Eisenhower’s appeals to American civil religion.
It’s much of a piece with her self-presentation at the GOP convention: she’s a chameleon who smoothly takes on the coloration of the current tribe. (For the GOPers, that meant she had to devote considerable energies toward rousing and feeding their hatred and anger and resentment. But by all Alaskan accounts, that’s not her usual style at all. It’s just what that particular tribe requires in order to be reassured anyone is really like them.)
She’s a disaster for many reasons: incurious, impetuous, fiscally imprudent, an enemy of the environment, a glib and prolific liar, theocratic on abortion, ignorant of science. But deep-running religious fanaticism isn’t one of those reasons, and if Dems make any concerted attempt to alarm voters about her religious beliefs, it will roll off her back and blow up in our faces.
I just think dems should know what her religious beliefs are before they decide how to respond.
The mainstream media haven’t been getting the message out.
I was looking for a formulation that Christians might identify with. Can you point out where the philosophy of Christianity differs from my caricature?
When Sarah found out the teen was pregnant by high schooler Levi Johnston, she was actually banished from the house. As part of the cover-up, Palin quickly transferred Bristol to another high school and made her move in with Sarah’s sister Heather 25 miles away!
http://www.nationalenquirer.co…..rity/65407
If in fact the foregoing is true (always worth asking given the Enquirer’s track record), then let’s do the math and examine the behavior of the mother to learn her own tendencies and values. If her daughter was actually banished from her own home and sent to Heather’s to “coverup” the truth, this is indicative of what? Willingness to lie and coverup – in the extreme? How extreme? That is a question the public deserves an answer to. How does that square with this from the New York Times?
“Our beautiful daughter Bristol came to us with news that as parents we knew would make her grow up faster than we had ever planned. As Bristol faces the responsibilities of adulthood, she knows she has our unconditional love and support,”
the Palins said.
I guess unconditional love includes banishment, lying and covering up the shame. Are you learning anything about Ms. Palin the elder?
Two weeks ago, Bristol was said to have been out of school for five months with mono. On what date did she actually stop going to school? School’s been out for summer for over three months, so nailing down that date is useful. When did she move in with Heather?
According to comments from classmates and other members of the community, Bristol Palin was out of school during what would have been the last trimester of the governor’s pregnancy due to a bad case of mono. A case so severe, according to the Palin family, Bristol missed nearly 5 months of school.
We were told a week ago that Bristol is five months pregnant.
On March 5th, 2008, Sarah Palin told her co-workers that she was seven months pregnant. They were said to be shocked, as she showed virtually no signs of being pregnant. Bristol was out of school in the same time frame as Sarah’s third trimester.
Something doesn’t add up here.
We’re asked to believe that Bristol had a case on mono so severe that it caused her to miss five months of school, during which time she had sex and got pregnant.
Having had mono, I can tell you that this didn’t happen. You can lie about the mono or you can lie about the pregnancy, but lying about both doesn’t work. Propensity-To-Lie is a valid campaign issue.
So she had a severe case of mono, during which she had sex and was kicked out of the house, moved in with her aunt, pregnant, with mono, as a sign of her parents unconditional love?
Got it, Madam Vice President. Now tell us about Iran’s WMD program again.
The Palins made their children a campaign issue. You can’t hold one up as a sign of your pro-life position and hold the other one up to demonstrate your support for the war, and then tell the American People that talking about your family is off limits.
Lindsay, I normally love your work, but this freaked me right the f**k out.
It’s too early for me to read this stuff.
Yech.
Eww.
Shower time, again… I feel dirty now.
Congress had better fall into line under President Palin, or she’ll just be delighted to nuke the planet and meet her maker.
“I’ve got my finger on the button right now, Senator, are you sure you won’t change your vote?”
FUCKING WHACK-JOBS:
They insist that they want to see the End Of Days during their life times, and have the ability to accomplish their insane goal.
